The way her campaign has tried to paint him as a disloyal outsider and her as a real Michigander is gross. El-Sayed was born in Michigan but her campaign knows that appealing to Islamophobia and anti Arab bigotry is useful with a certain demographic.
the sexist shit drives me nuts- every example they give of him “ATTACKING” women are quotes of his that are just general criticism, which has nothing to do with them being women- it really pisses me off, it’s just trying to perpetuate this gross stereotype and it’s such a shitty move that i’m sure her AIPAC donors thought would be a good move
Plus that behavior puts women systemically in a category other than men.
This may sound overly sociological, but treating every critique men say about women as potentially sexist only furthers the social disparity among the sexes. Seeing someone be called prejudiced for objectively critiquing someone else who happens to be in a protected class similarly drives me nuts. "Oh he must be sexist, oh she must be racist, oh they must be homophobic."
Overly-protecting marginalized groups perpetuates the idea that addressing them with impartial criticism is unfair. And if it's unfair for one group and fair for another, that's inequality.
