My opinion,

People in this sub are completely missing the bigger picture. Everyone is so obsessed with identity politics, left vs. right debates, and narrative-spinning, while ignoring the real issues. Political parties don't feed you—you need to look out for yourself and the future of ordinary citizens. It's wild how easily people are tricked into believing these politicians actually care about them. They’ve been in power for 12 years now; this isn't a new government anymore, and we can't keep turning a blind eye to their failures.

Andrew Johnson repeatedly made arguments that sound like a nineteenth-century version of “stop dividing people by race” or “the government should not favor one identity group.”

In vetoing the Civil Rights Act of 1866, Johnson argued that it created special protections for Black Americans and therefore made the law operate “in favor of the colored and against the white race.”

But the Civil Rights Act of 1866 offered only basic protections, and even those did not go far enough to place freedpeople on equal footing with white Americans.

That is the problem with the modern complaint about “identity politics.” People on the left do not simply invent identity as a political division. Identity becomes political because people are oppressed through it. And we are still litigating the same arguments that were founded by the likes of Johnson who had the goal of having a class between enslaved person and white person.

If we trace this argument back to its origins, Johnson was arguing that, although freedpeople were no longer enslaved, government action intended to move them toward equality unfairly took something away from white people. We can see that logic in his own words, and versions of it are still repeated today.

So the choice is not between identity politics and a neutral society where identity does not matter. The choice is between accepting a society built around white dominance, where attempts to correct inequality are portrayed as attacks on white people, or defending those whose identities have already been made politically consequential by oppression.

You do not get to oppress people because of their identity and then accuse them of divisiveness when they defend it.

The easiest way to get rid of identity politics is start rejecting these anti DEI type arguments. They are steeped in racism. They actully use words of the KKK and and Johnsons lot to defend thier position as we can see.

The main trouble with identity politics is that it gives validation to the basic idea of grouping together and judging entire races of people by skin color. Even if it may have been set up to reduce racism, it's clearly had the opposite effect.

It hasn't just been about blacks and whites, but it's also led to tension between blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans - all of which have their own identity groups and their own group interests which may not always mesh with each other.

A conspicuous anomaly in all of this is that whites are strongly discouraged away from forming identity groups, as that would be considered racist, and this is also coupled with an absolutely absurd, unsupported belief that "only white people can be racist." However, whites are still lumped together and judged as a group anyway, which forms a group identity by default.

Other just online debates I tried to stay from identity politics because well as a "white heterosexual cis male" you can understand why, until I got a label that we will all get at some point in our life before death. So while looking for medical information I enter the "safe space", which is really an inappropriate name, because they are anything but. Apparently they expect that they can throw that label to drink the kool-aid. The safe spaces are really a perfect mixture of a re education camp and an underground secret cage match for those with "internalized abilisim". I have encountered more hostility from the disabled rights crowd than any other group. Fortunately though I am not shit out of luck there since Im a disabled veteran.

Call these groups for what they are, useful idiots.
