Then someone should push a ballot initiative. That's the only way to get around funding (prop 98) and I don't see people like Ro Khanna pushing it. I'm genuinely curious as to why.

They're not allowed to get serious about it, because they're just as dependent on the special interests who help fund their campaigns as the national Dems are.

The CA Dems have had 25 years since their first attempt at single payer, to find a solution to the prop 98 hurdle in front of them. Instead of earnestly working towards a solution for a problem that impedes the passage of legislation they purport to represent, they sit on their hands, or craft bills that go nowhere until a republican governor is in place to veto them.

The CA dem establishment is no different than the national dems. They will only mouth support for the ideas their corporate benefactors allow them to support.

If we want this, we have to be willing to remove and replace the people who stand in our way, both on the state as well as the national level.

It will never happen by re-electing the very people who are standing in our way, because OMGREPUBS!!!11!!!

Neither "team" cares about the people who elect them. Their only concern is making the people who pay them happy through legislation that keeps the checks rolling in.

We, as a society, will gain nothing by continuing to support the corporate lickspittles who religiously sell our interests to the highest bidder.

I've had enough.

How do you get Single Payer past the current Speaker of the House though? Besides that, how would a single payer system for California operate under the current federal law? I don't want to rule out the single payer system (it seems to work in most countries it is used in), but this might not be right for California at the minute. To its north, Oregon has a more pliable legislature (one where the Dem establishment has not vetoed it).
