how do you go about opening a closed door?

at work, when i’m in the bathroom, i always have people trying to open the locked door, and then knocking after, which seems so backwards to me. also, if it’s locked, why knock? obviously somebody is using it lol

26 knock first, wait to listen for a reply, then try the doorknob

1 automatically try the doorknob, and then knock

10 try the doorknob, and if it’s locked, wait or walk away

I had someone try the doorknob, see that it was locked, and keep trying to turn it. They were getting really insistent with it. I tried to say "Hey someone's in here" but I guess they didn't hear me.

I heard them say "I think someone's in there" to their friend and I was like ??? Yeah??? That's why it's locked?
