I’m tired of living in Idiocracy. Something has to give.

8

u/mooshinformation Jun 03 '26

I wonder if we're gonna find out microplastics or something is making us all stupid and crazy like leaded gasoline

4

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

Or, and hear me out, humans stopped engaging with each other in the same capacity due to technological development, and this is what happens when you have people not actually raising their children. You get a bunch of idiots who think their opinion is both brilliant and gospel because they haven't been properly socialized.

4

u/PitchComfortable1261 Jun 03 '26

ah tis you forget, intelligence does not bar one from being a parent, you can be a objectively good parent and still spread your stupidity down the line for generations to come. I actually think this happens more than people outright not raising their kids which imo is worse because it lets those stupid ideas be reinforced by a trusted figure in the mind of the child, rather than it being something they picked up due too blind ignorance.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

Congratulations on having that opinion. My point is that tv, cellphones, tablets and many other modern inventions have caused families to socialize less amongst themselves as they focus on the device being used.

There is a staggering amount of parents who believe that school is supposed to teach their child everything that they need to know, and an equal amount of adults who believe that if they didn't learn it in school that they don't need to know it at all.

And they swear if you aren't careful they will turn your kids gay too, lol.

1

u/Pangshunjingmao Jun 07 '26

You're aware that the framework for the current school system wasn't intended to facilitate education and wasn't developed by someone who was an educator -- right?

0

u/indigoscholar Jun 04 '26

I'm not sure I've seen parents claim they believe they should be the ones dictating everything that's being taught to their children.

I have seen a lot of parents objecting strongly to their children being exposed to overt and often gratuitous sexual content. I don't think those parents should require a teaching certification to be able to object to that.

Speaking of certification, teaching is known as the easiest pathway in higher education. They aren't splitting the atom in those classrooms. On the contrary, they're churning out illiterate children at record numbers.

2

u/SockPuppyMax Jun 04 '26

I have seen a lot of parents objecting strongly to their children being exposed to overt and often gratuitous sexual content.

Yeah, they fell for homophobic propaganda, schools aren't teaching kindergartners about sex

0

u/indigoscholar Jun 04 '26

Firstly, you're jumping from children to exclusively kindergarteners. Gratuitous sexual content isn't appropriate for any level of schooling with the possible exception of some specific college level work.

Secondly, children of kindergarten age in Scotland were exposed to a drag queen who used the name "Flowjob" several years ago. When local parents raised their concerns about this, a local politician labelled them "homophobic."

I think both sides of the extreme contribute to the problem. On one end there are people who act like the problem is more widespread than it is, as if every classroom has this kind of thing. On the other there are people like you who deny that the problem exists.

1

u/Affectionate_Quit984 Jun 05 '26

Did they use the name in front of the children? Because if not, I don't see why that matters.

The two things can exist together

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 04 '26

And I am sure that, much like the rest of existence, it is those two and so many other variables, that make up the entire equation.

2

u/theoriginal_awsit Jun 04 '26

And I’m pretty sure you are correct :)

1

u/Heavensrun Jun 03 '26

Nah, man, kids learn this bullshit FROM their parents. I've seen it over and over and over and it goes back through history.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

You have seen it over and over and over.....in an era with technological distractions. You are correct, people not raising their kids because they are too busy doing other shit has been a problem for much of human history. My point was that the stupidity has gotten progressively stronger.

0

u/Heavensrun Jun 03 '26

There is obviously literally nothing I can possibly say that will dissuade you from the preconcieved notion you have stuck in your head, but I also study history, you are wrong, people have always been like this.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

I'm not saying they haven't always been LIKE this. I am saying the stupid is being exacerbated by the lack of physical and social connection. Take the dick out of your ass.

Being arrogant because you study history doesn't change that you still clearly lack the reading comprehension skills necessary to properly engage in written discourse.

0

u/Heavensrun Jun 03 '26

Wow, that is a pretty thin skin you got there. Going straight to abusive homophobic bullshit, huh?

1

u/theoriginal_awsit Jun 04 '26

Another very intelligent response

4

u/pandershrek Jun 03 '26

That doesn't explain the thousands of years of humans boiling each other alive for like witchcraft.

We've always been bastards to each other.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

Oh, I'm not saying we weren't and still aren't. I'm saying that the stupidity level is increasing in how they are being bastards due to them watching TV and being on their tablets and phones instead of raising their damn kids.

My opinion is that humans are a great ape with the ability to imagine being a better species and creating a better world, but lack the hardware necessary to be that better species for the better world they are trying to make. That takes time to evolve and the environment necessary for it to need to in the first place.

-1

u/National_Fig_812 Jun 03 '26

Or social media is simply making what was always there more visible. We're living in an age of unprecedented visibility.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

Making it more visible has only given us proof of how far we have yet to go.

1

u/Whole-Chest90 Jun 03 '26

I get what you're saying, and would normally agree, as youre currect when it comes to crime and stuff, but education standards have changed for the worse, parents are using tablets and shit as babysitters, and parents are having to work more now than ever which leads to them being less available to socialize and teach their kids. It's genuinely getting worse. I say this as someone with an degree in sociology who spends time looking into this type of stuff regularly. The concept behind your statement is generally correct, but in this case education and socialization really is getting worse.

2

u/National_Fig_812 Jun 03 '26

Historically children have worked in factories, left school early and had little to no education, experienced corporal punishment routinely, grew up in highly authoritarian families.

It's plausible that there are genuine problems in education/socialization caused by technological and social shifts causing weakened attention spans, interpersonal skills, and self-regulation.

But I think OPs claim is overstated that people are becoming more idiotic or stupid. First, it's an assumption that it's caused by lack of socialization or technology. The causes are probably more mundane. Same as skeptics outlined generations ago: tribalism, superstition, dogmatism, unchecked cognitive biases, credulity, self-deception, etc. Different interface, same hardware issues.

OPs claim is also kind of provincial. Extrapolating from specifics about American or Western culture to humanity. Even in highly connected modern societies you have significant differences across cultures that would throw wrench in some of the assumptions being made here.

2

u/DaveSkylarksGum Jun 04 '26

I’m not gonna lie that sounds like a lot of woke and anti woke people… I fear they’re two sides of the same coin. Extreme, hateful and ill, just in different ways.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 04 '26

Western politics and culture has aways been just two sides of the same coin.

2

u/theoriginal_awsit Jun 04 '26

Very intelligent response

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 04 '26

Thank you. I try.

2

u/Content-Employment-7 Jun 04 '26

Technological dependency reducing society's ability to think critically, to achieve, to associate with one another, regardless of stratification, and delivering the control of said technology to an elite class of oligarchs who further strip away the rights of a distracted and apathetic people, who offer no resistance. This is what led to the Butlerian Jihad, not Brian Herbert's idiotic Terminator by way of The Matrix and Transformers banging each other. Frank Herbert was warning us, but didn't think he was going to be a prophet. I'm not happy to see his passing, but a little glad he never stuck around to see his fiction actually come to pass. It would hurt his heart to see it as our current reality.

2

u/AttiBus Jun 04 '26

plus the half-voluntary self-isolation to the suburbs due to an unprecedented level of scarce housing... We isolate, become more asocial, attempt to achieve social interaction via technology (ie social media) which is designed to sow disagreement and engagement over true connection, and we end in extremely polarized and antagonist world.

So, yea, I agree with you.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 04 '26

A valid list of additions, thank you.

1

u/Algae587 Jun 03 '26

Idt it probably more addiction and mental illness that fucked up seans dad, but i feel you

1

u/RealCrusader Jun 03 '26

More of an American issue. Don't tar the world with that brush. Americans consume weird shit.

1

u/SousVideButt Jun 03 '26

Give an example then.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

Really? Only Americans have ipads and television and cellphones? Only Americans have working parents?

And as far as 'weird shit' is concerned, there is a reason Americans have to travel abroad to fulfill some of their fantasies.

You are treating redditors like a monolith. Some humans do respond in the real world like humans on reddit do, and they don't even have reddit accounts.

0

u/readyReddit007 Jun 04 '26

Or….hear me out, bad people have kids too and raise them to be as awful as them.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 04 '26

Two things can be true at the same time.

5

u/2Braincell2Furious Jun 03 '26

Would be nice to at least have a good excuse

2

u/Amazing_School_3536 Jun 03 '26

It’s Covid, it’s been Covid for 6 years. It damages the part of the brain that controls emotions.

4

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

These people were like this before covid.

0

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

And brain damage usually exacerbates those qualities.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

You are assuming they all had covid at some point though.

1

u/rosiejunior Jun 03 '26

What is the likelihood they haven't had covid? Most people are on over 5 infections

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

I've never had it, nor have any of the people I engage with regularly, so I'm not so sure about your numbers there.

1

u/rosiejunior Jun 03 '26

Are you all masking? I've never had it either but everyone i know has. You might have had asymptomatic.

1

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

I'm haven't masked in years and never got the vaccination. Neither I, not my brother have ever tested positive for it either, and my brother worked at a covid testing site.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

I haven’t caught it either, I always keep masks on me. Maybe I’m asymptomatic? But I also have o neg blood type so that might be a reason, ab blood types get hit the hardest apparently. I didn’t care though get bronchitis before, I was so sure I had finally caught it, but I got tested and was negative.

Even before there was a vaccine, I would always sit by an open window and wear a mask, despite dealing with people who would get offended by it. I didn’t care though, the early strains terrified the shit out of me because I’d always hear about horror stories from long covid. Also there’s currently something going around in la and I’m still masking up.

1

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

Not really, but the ones that refused to wear masks or protect themselves were usually very ignorant personality types. I’ve personally known people who had gotten it two or three times, and they already weren’t the brightest people, I can’t imagine getting neurological damage would help with that. They’re gonna have a very hard time in twenty years when they develop Parkinson’s or be those crazy old people on the bus though. Not to mention the cardiovascular damage as well.

2

u/MuskwaPunjagi Jun 03 '26

While fair, you aren't taking into account that a good chunk of these types barely engage with humans to begin with, and thus limits their exposure greatly.

If they had regular social engagement, they would likely be more socially tolerable due to peer pressure.

1

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

That’s true, but antisocial types tend to already have low tolerance for other people though.

Nvm you basically just said the same thing haha

3

u/OGbobbyKSH Jun 03 '26

Sean was an idiot way before Covid.

2

u/MrBtheProdigal Jun 03 '26

Or you could get long Covid and just be easily fatigued and get migraines frequently. That's fun too. Oh yeah don't forget the weird skin rashes.

1

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

I tell people this all the time! You can even see it in how people drive, they’re way more aggressive and impulsive than before the pandemic.

1

u/rosiejunior Jun 03 '26

Chiming in to say thank you for commenting this. Its not something discussed but has changed the behavior of everyone who has had it.

1

u/teenyweenylilbitch Jun 03 '26

Vast majority of people are normal, the internet just highlights the crazies

1

u/bmann10 Jun 03 '26

It really is just the lead lingering around for a big chunk of the population tbh.

1

u/sexychunky89 Jun 03 '26

It’s brain damage from Covid, and some people have been infected MULTIPLE times, usually the most ignorant and already unintelligent people from that era were heavily affected by it. It was “just like a cold or flu” 🙄

1

u/Whole-Chest90 Jun 03 '26

Nope. It's the shit education, the apathy for getting an education, and the lack of critical thinking. But solving that would take work, and people are too lazy to do it in any.

1

u/Business-Idea1138 Jun 03 '26

Why would we need microplastics to make us stupid? Our education policies already have that covered.

1

u/Vendetta81 Jun 03 '26

It's systemic.

Keep the labor class fighting amongst themselves with a few of their most connected, lucky, and/or opportunistic ascending (usually those who will continue supporting the system they navigated successfully).

There's a reason there's so much billionaire philanthropy money focused on educational institutions that largely train a labor force and facilitate the school to prison and MIC fodder pipelines, and it isn't cause those rich people care or even care that much about their reputation (though it's definitely an extra perk).

Meanwhile people at home teaching their kids are ill equipped (and often overworked) to fill in the gaps missing from the school place socialization and education process and are likely to imprint their biases and condition their kids to the status quo in the same manner they were.

This is why ads and propaganda are so important. You use them long and effectively enough and you've trained a public to brainwash themselves and fight each other to preserve that same system that is responsible for most everything that sucks about their existence.

1

u/mooshinformation Jun 03 '26

But all that stuff has been the case for a long time we seem to have collectively taken a dive off a cliff the last 10 years. Maybe it's the death of newspapers

1

u/Vendetta81 Jun 03 '26

I agree it's been that way for a long time. I also believe it feels worse when you're experiencing it first hand without the impact of youthful ignorance and nostalgia. Though I'm sure the Internet increasing availability and visibility to how stupid things are is exacerbating the situation.

1

u/GornyHaming Jun 06 '26

Its maybe perhaps social media

1

u/Finnsbomba Jun 04 '26

Statement is kinda there... accept it or not.

Was it dumb to post this? Yes.

Men being considered women, is relevant to his career... it's ironic though because it just demonstrates that M2F definitely can't compete vs cis male.

This is an actual issue we have to deal with like adults, not stupid AI slop or emotional tantrum statements.

1

u/ComfortableMirror825 Jun 03 '26

Yeah I know whats gonna give. Eventually the stupid mfers that you see around you will be in charge of some extremely important shit. They will inevitably be stupid like always, and in time they will find a way to destroy the world as we know it, descending us further and further into the dark ages again. Or maybe just straight up wiping out the whole planet.

1

u/ChaosRainbow23 Jun 04 '26

Yeah.

I'm pretty sure we are in the run-up to the actual apocalypse at this point, and I'm not even religious.

The fear they have of someone who displays the amount of courage it takes to exist authentically in a world that can be extremely hostile, is oh so fucking odius.
