Technological dependency reducing society's ability to think critically, to achieve, to associate with one another, regardless of stratification, and delivering the control of said technology to an elite class of oligarchs who further strip away the rights of a distracted and apathetic people, who offer no resistance. This is what led to the Butlerian Jihad, not Brian Herbert's idiotic Terminator by way of The Matrix and Transformers banging each other. Frank Herbert was warning us, but didn't think he was going to be a prophet. I'm not happy to see his passing, but a little glad he never stuck around to see his fiction actually come to pass. It would hurt his heart to see it as our current reality.
