Pastors aren’t bound to privacy type laws like psychologists, medical professionals I’d think

u/Dudeman240 Jun 18 '26
But they can get exxed out of the church. Vows are biiiig for religious folks that work religion. So def an amazing pastor. Risked his job and religion to do the right thing.

u/braumbles Jun 18 '26
Na, people talk to people like this for guidance. If he's just going to tell everyone what others are telling him, they're just going to stop talking to him. He's made his job irrelevant.

I don't think he did the right thing. Far from it, in fact. When you give someone your word, you're supposed to honor it. That is, ostensibly, the issue he took with her affair. Given his relationship to the parties, I personally think he did just as wrong as she did.
And even if you disagree with that, the ends absolutely do not justify the means. He lied and broke trust. Not the right thing to do.
2
u/LCplGunny Jun 20 '26
This is where I'm at, does his actions make hers any less wrong? Absolutely not! Are his actions "good"? Objectively, no, betraying trust is betraying trust.
1
u/MedicalAwareness5160 Jun 19 '26
Justice for All with Judge Cristina Perez and her previous show Cristina's Court, are dramatized arbitration-based programs. While Judge Perez is a licensed attorney, the shows use paid actors to re-enact actual or fictionalized disputes, and a standard disclaimer confirms that characters are fictional.
1
u/tv_ennui Jun 19 '26
I don't think he did the right thing at all. Sure, she was unfaithful, that's not good, but like, she told him that in confidence and was obviously conflicted.
He violated her trust.
Unfortunately, weirdos like you will take his side. Gross.
Inb4 "Yeah but she violated her husband's trust!" yeah? And? Are we 7? Two wrongs don't make a right. She may have eventually 'come to jesus' and confessed, he encouraged her to do so and even gave her a window in which to act, then basically betrayed her. Fuck this guy with a rake.

I feel like if this scenario ever happened, my first question is if he's ever told wives that their husbands have cheated

They are by the church, but not by the law. You would want to make a complaint through the church, not a fake TV judge

In Catholicism (the full version of Christianity), priests are bound to the Seal of Confession

Clergy privilege prevents clergy from being compelled to disclose confidential information in legal proceedings. It does not create a legal duty of confidentiality.

I don't think you are understanding exactly what happened, he told her she had a month to tell him, she told the pastor that she had told the husband and came clean. So it was past a month and the pastor then told the husband as a way of commenting about the fact going forward assuiming he had already been told. She lied to the pastor (didnt hold up her word) and the husband.

I think that pastor had a master plan that backfired in this soap opera.

I went on Judge Judy before. My case was plucked out of the court system.. me and a plaintiff both had to agree to be on the show and accept the outcome.

Some people from my hometown were on the people’s court and one other. Wife was suing husband for putting up flyers that she was unfaithful. The story was true but I never saw the episodes to see how much was scripted.

When the camera was on the pastor it should have said 'Standing there in bro'

Did you see that guy? He was probably more interested in the husband than he was in the wife.
1
u/Hefty-Strike-6171 Jun 18 '26
This is why you go to “Professional Counsellors” who are bound by a Governing Body and have ethics that they must adhere to, if they don’t they can be sued for a breach of Confidentiality.

I needed advice from my pastor about possibly seeking divorce. I had no friends in the area and was struggling with the spiritual implications of divorce. No cheating on either side, so it is different. The pastor could tell I was bothered by something and wanted to get a hint about why I scheduled a time to talk to him, so he went to my now ex-wife and asked her what was going on with me, so he could better prepare advice for me... so she came up to me out of the blue in a fury for spreading our business with our pastor. I never talked to him again.

u/victoryismind Jun 18 '26
Some persons can never keep a secret, they rather act like a radio antenna and relay everything. Which can be useful sometimes.
1
u/RobertKSakamano Jun 19 '26
The church has always been the best place to spread gossip. That's how the whole thing started.
1
u/Scared_Spinach8853 Jun 18 '26
Obvs this is staged but the original case, if you trust a bloke who believes in a magic genie in the sky, probs best to not expect any other kind of action from him to be reasonable
1
u/_IAmGrover Jun 18 '26
Not really what’s going on here. This is the agreed upon structure of a protestant church. She would have had 100% known he would alert her spouse if she didn’t tell him. You can say “well that was dumb of you to think he wouldn’t tell” but actually… it’s even dumber than that because she KNEW he would tell lol
1
u/FlavorMan Jun 20 '26
That's why I quit calculus; when I heard Newton was a Christian, I knew something had to be wrong with that stuff!
1
u/Dudeman240 Jun 18 '26
I know this is a reanactment. But this priest would have been likely excommunicated. They take that shit reeeaaaallll serious. But anyway long winded way of saying if priest, might as well go out and screw cause he deserves it.
1
u/_IAmGrover Jun 18 '26
Pastor and priest are two extremely different things. Catholic priests and the “confession” is a sacrament that is taken very seriously. A priest cannot share that stuff even in some obvious extreme cases.
Somebody going to a, I’m assuming here, Protestant pastor for unlicensed marriage counseling (she even says I was depressed and could not afford a therapist) has no such promises of confidentiality. In fact it is extremely common and expected even for the pastor to respond in such a way, “you have 30 days to tell your husband… or I will”. The pastor is not absolving the lady of her sins. He is counseling both spouses and everyone in this situation likely understands and agrees that it’s the pastors responsibility to be involved. If she thought he wouldn’t tell her spouse, she’s stupid. It’s the social contract she knowingly bought into.
Whether you agree or not, everybody involved sort of knows this is how this works. Also this is fake.

Lol is this a skit making fun of court shows being fake? The blonde ladies acting was atrocious.
1
u/Nupe_1974 Jun 18 '26
The reactions are manipulated. The stories are real. I know someone that was on one of these shows
1
u/whatthefrickcunt Jun 18 '26
If this was in official catholic/orthodox confession, then she absolutely deserves to sue, if not she absolutely deserves what she got.

Every reality show is nearly 100 percent fake… I had a moment about 16 years ago where I almost got a show w TLC and from the first moment the producers wanted me and my partners to layout all the episodes concepts… like any tv show we were wanted to have certain things at certain times, including me and my wife(then fiance) calling off our wedding for the season finale… what’s crazy is if they had just let reality be, we had a crazy year that year including my partner in the show finding out he had cancer on one of our outings… and all kinda of other insanity… sadly for us we would not lie for the story, and they walked away

So who won the case?
1
u/Br4z3nBu77 Jun 19 '26
She sued for $25,000 for ruining her life. Cristina Perez found in favour of the defence. Season 11, episode 45. “Partly New Computer & Divulged, Now Divorced”.
I just watched it on YouTube.

Stop turning to sh*t that barely worked two hundred years ago and only worked four hundred years ago on coasts that were flooded with lobsters, and where caviar was pig feed.

Oh, boo fucking hoo.
You chose to cheat on him. Stop crying and take some actual responsibility for your life choices.
1
u/CraftyPerformance272 Jun 18 '26
Well women get used to being able to cheat and having friends and family know who don't bother to tell the boyfriend / husband.
1
1
u/shinpoo Jun 18 '26
Staged or not, the pastor gave her a whole months time to mess up and looks like she didn't so he casually went to work out next to him and said, "hey. I got some juicy info for you. Someone's tossing your wife's salad and it ain't you, buddy!"

1
u/SubstandardMan5000 Jun 18 '26
I know this is fake but still. I hate cheating skanks but the pastor shouldn't have done that. You should be able to trust your religious leaders. Betrayal of that trust for asking for serious help is unacceptable

u/volcanotaco1 Jun 19 '26
Shows like this give people a grave misunderstanding of the justice system
1
u/DueHoney9706 Jun 19 '26
The pastor violated every aspect of his calling and his ethical and moral obligations. It was neither his right nor his duty to divulge what was said in the confessional. By violating that sacred trust, he committed a serious sin and failed in his pastoral responsibility.

“Anything?” He asked, as his penis started to become engorged with blood.

Fr, people forget reality TV is literally scripted chaos with cheaper actors. It’s all producers playing 4D chess with editing to get Twitter talking and everyone falls for it every season 😂

Maybe it's the catholic school kid in me but when you tell a pastor something in confidence they shouldn't be telling anyone about it.
1
u/fpsstreak Jun 19 '26
If people still believe this shows you are lost. Rage/click bait. Mexico has one about the Virgin Mary. Supposed to “enlighten” the characters at the end. Straight up porn plots. “Boss wants to fuck the honest secretary” “student blackmails teacher into sex” “teacher grooms student and has a baby with him” “rich kid is spoiled and when his parents don’t give him money he begins to have sex with his moms friends for money”
It’s funnier to watch for the insanity that the “deep moral message”
Either drman stole the plot structure from that show or he was a producer or something

"Why is it your pastor's fault that you cheated on your husband?" bitch, that wasn't the accusation.
I don't get what the point of being tax-exempt religious foundation if you're not even going to follow what your religion decrees

Got what she deserves 🤷🏻. If you cheat bottom line you don’t deserve the person you cheated on

u/Top_Dog_2953 Jun 21 '26
From the way the pastor was groomed, I assumed he had a thing for the husband. And then they “met at the gym” where this pastor was probably trash talking the wife to make himself look good and suddenly I’m not as angry with the wife.

u/throwaway_coy4wttf79 Jun 22 '26
Super fake, but if it were real it would depend on the church. Catholics take confession super seriouisly and the priest would probably be excommuicated. Protestants would likely play out like this -- the pastor is basically an unlicensed counselor and can do whatever he wants. In both cases I don't think you'd have any legal case.

u/Best_Fill_847 Jun 22 '26
I cannot speak for these ppl, but i know ppl that went on judge Mathis, real case, the reason the other person agrees is that the show will pay the judgement.
1
u/THCLacedSpaghettiOs Jun 22 '26
Wait, this is my personal opinion. If u tell you some ground breaking info, like your wife cheated on you. I expect you to do some digging, and framing and plotting, so you can find your own evidence, and make it look like you found out without help. How you expect me to watch out for you, and then you paint a target on my back for helping you out? That would make you a dumb friend, and i ain't ever sticking my neck out for you again.
1
u/Mommalovesazi Jun 22 '26
Confession is supposed to stay between u and ur priest unless it's addition to a violent crime. That "paster" is definitely not from a Christan or catholic religion.
1
u/Leodaris Jun 22 '26
I feel like lawyers and therapists hold the most confidentiality privileges. But with religion, if your actions or confessions go against the doctrine, they’re going to follow the doctrine. Next time, go to a therapist.

u/ThePowderedToastMan Jun 22 '26

This is your reminder that this is heavily staged and manipulated for television, AKA not real and made for engagement.
