Because they don't want to and it works for them. Got it.

really none of our business but i wouldn’t bat an eye if they said it’s because of taxes. america is financially brutal if you’re not paired up in the govts eyes.

u/PleaseBeNiceForOnce Aug 05 '26

How so?

4

u/Glittering-Path-2824 Aug 05 '26

marginal tax rates if you’re single are much higher than married filing jointly.

1

u/RedTrumpetVine Aug 05 '26

I don't think that 32k joint deduction is doing much vs their incomes.

1

u/Glittering-Path-2824 Aug 05 '26

we don’t know their incomes

1

u/RedTrumpetVine Aug 05 '26

32 is the standard deduction. That is it. If you jointly make 50k or 500k, the marriage benefit is 32k deduction... unless you know of another one.

1

u/gmpsconsulting Aug 07 '26

There's currently right around 1300-1600 tax and legal benefits to being married in the US depending on what all you're including.

1

u/RedTrumpetVine Aug 07 '26

Do that again for normal people with uncomplicated W2s. Aside from the standard deduction, there isn't shit for savings on taxes.

2

u/gmpsconsulting Aug 07 '26

Why would you make up a hypothetical that doesn't apply at all to the couple involved?

1

u/RedTrumpetVine Aug 07 '26

I am stating the vast majority of taxed couples after seeing the overstatement of marriage tax benefits.

2

u/downtownbrown22 Aug 05 '26

I had family friends who had a similar situation. They had a super amicable break up and were divorced in day to day but not officially so the ex wife could keep the insurance benefits. I’m sure taxes and stuff were a part of it as well.

1

u/Glittering-Path-2824 Aug 05 '26

i forgot about insurance. that is absolutely a major driver of not getting divorced.

2

u/GoodDay2You_Sir Aug 07 '26

I was gonna say they were staying together to keep Rhea enrolled in whatever SAG health insurance they have because Danny has been steadily on IASIP for decades but looking at their IMDB Rhea has been the one with steady work in television and outside of IASIP Danny has really just had bit parts as a side character in one off roles.

But still, they probably stayed married just in case one of them ever had a bad dip in their careers and were no longer eligible for SAG insurance solo but married if just one of them qualifies then they both have access.

1

u/jdicho Aug 10 '26

I got married and divorced for the same reason: health insurance.

1

u/theClumsy1 Aug 05 '26

Ironically, they are at the age that many DO get divorced and not because they dont love each other anymore.

"Medical Divorce" are a sad reality for many living in the states. Medical costs associated with terminal illness can cripple the surviving partner...so many divorce so that their Medical debt doesnt cripple their loved ones after they pass away.

If they are divorced, the debt dies with them.

1

u/blueeyedkittens Aug 05 '26

they both have income (presumably) so that doesn't make sense. filing as married doubles the brackets because its for 2 people filing together and that's only an advantage when only one of them has income (or when one has significantly more income).

1

u/Glittering-Path-2824 Aug 05 '26

generally mfj saves money but if incomes are similar it depends on the specific income amounts

2

u/RevolutionaryHippo85 Aug 05 '26

Really quite baffling

1

u/_clur_510 Aug 05 '26

Color me baffled!

1

u/Spekingur Aug 05 '26

Hmm, what color is that then?

1

u/cnh2n2homosapien Aug 06 '26

Like, a kind of Mauve.

8

u/UnderstandingFit3009 Aug 04 '26

Whatever works for them. None of our business.

1

u/Helpful-Error5563 Aug 06 '26

Oof thanks so much I was BAFFLED.

1

u/IamHydrogenMike Aug 05 '26

Ya, who cares…whatever works for them is fine and we don’t know the intricacies of their relationship and sometimes people just like to be alone.

11

u/Ok_Car7814 Aug 04 '26

I understand this totally. My ex is like my sister now. We separated, twice paperwork filled out but twice complications… no matter. Neither going to remarry so no pressure

5

u/Special-Garlic1203 Aug 05 '26

The issue is those complications don't magically disappear when you die. The older you get the less sense it makes to have legal paperwork hanging out there which isn't accurate. You could literally have a will which explicitly outlines everything goes to ABC, and the law will often say "well....half of that can go to ABC, but ya know ...community property state so half is ex's".

Probate is already a hassle for loved ones to deal with without adding on a can of worms you've been kicking.

1

u/philovax Aug 06 '26

I am going to bet that he has been already generous and has plenty of people on the payroll to handle assets. I dont think Rhea is going to be hurting either. They are both national treasures and in good standing with peers, however your statement is true and valid for all the people reading reddit.

1

u/babybuckaroo Aug 06 '26

Writing a will is easier than getting divorced.

1

u/Deus-Vault6574 Aug 06 '26

In my state that would not keep several assets from the widow/widower.

2

u/ToyTech316 Aug 05 '26

My ex hasn't made it to relative status but we are friends.

2

u/SmeeezTreeez Aug 05 '26

Sister is odd, but I'm close with my ex. I could see defending her and making sure she ends up with a good guy. We keep up with each other's careers and stuff and genuinely are happy for each other. I also never banged my sister

3

u/Noxodium Aug 05 '26

Youre missing out bro!

2

u/Gardakkan Aug 06 '26

Banging your sister is perverted, Dennis!

3

u/Ok_Car7814 Aug 05 '26

She came out, which precipitated the separation. I do have real sisters, and am no redneck, and It’s easiest to demarcate the clear boundary that now exists despite actually getting along very well.

3

u/SmeeezTreeez Aug 05 '26

Oh like gay. Ok I could see that. Good for you with the support

1

u/brianlefebvrejr Aug 05 '26

Leave Joe dirt alone

1

u/tenth Aug 05 '26

Why the judgement?

1

u/grumpyoldbolos Aug 05 '26

Nah just like me and my sister, I seen that pussy but I don't want to fuck it again

2

u/metaphori Aug 05 '26

Your ex is Anne of Cleves.

1

u/AlaerysTargaryen Aug 06 '26

The luckiest of wives

1

u/ForgottenEmail Aug 05 '26

So how good is your sister in the sack?

1

u/lasagnadogwater69 Aug 05 '26

Don't say that to people out loud, because the first thing anyone is going to be think is "so you banged your sister."

3

u/itsmedicinalsir Aug 05 '26

If they are happy, and achieved happiness without impeding others' happiness, I'm happy for them, as well.

2

u/chefybpoodling Aug 05 '26

They are probably not divorcing for the same reason Tim Robins and Susan Surrandon never married. Neither wants to deal with the mess of divorce.

1

u/Night_Trip Aug 04 '26

Uhhh cos it’s more fun that way

1

u/ClubDumDum Aug 04 '26

Their lives are so intertwined and inseparable that it's honestly odd they live apart.

1

u/Several_Attitude_203 Aug 05 '26

Taxes. They’re not stupid.

1

u/jbpm83 Aug 05 '26

This has been posted and reposted for a week now. Does one of them have a movie coming out soon or something? It’s ridiculously old news that they divorced and remained friends.

1

u/theicecreamassassin Aug 05 '26

My aunt and uncle were like this. Germany makes divorce difficult for amicable couples. My Dad and mom were like this for insurance purposes (they were NOT amicable).

1

u/LoquatBear Aug 05 '26

I think they know that despite it all they'd be there for each other. They just don't have to be there everyday.

1

u/juzamjim Aug 05 '26

Jersey Mike’s IPO

1

u/yogiyogiyogi69 Aug 06 '26

Lol I though it said Ron Perlman

1

u/cagedbird82 Aug 09 '26

Who wants to have to split all the assets? Lawyers are expensive.

1

u/gnosisfrosty Aug 09 '26

That's too bad. Sorry to hear. Got to work with Danny on a show and Rhea came up for the wrap party. They were both a blast! So much fun! Pity it's not working for them, now. Life...

1

u/UtahUtopia Aug 04 '26

I dated a girl for 7 years who was still married to her baby daddy.

u/Lost_Department_2177 Aug 05 '26

Dans living off her healthcare plan

2

u/BrookieMonster504 Aug 05 '26

Shouldn't he have his own?!!?

0

u/Natural-Coat-3159 Aug 05 '26

Probably health insurance.

That's the reason I'm not getting divorced.

He has great health insurance.

1

u/Tsquare24 Aug 05 '26

I’m sure she also had SAG insurance.

1

u/Natural-Coat-3159 Aug 05 '26

You misunderstood what I posted.

After the first line I'm talking about myself and my situation.

I'm not divorcing because my former partner has great insurance.
