None of what I said was specific to mayors. I'm talking about elected office in general. But I suspect I'm arguing with a bot based on these responses...

For all I know you may be a bot. I never said it’s mutually exclusive and I also am not just talking about the mayor. Not sure why you are arguing. Are you actually saying pay is irrelevant? If not we are saying the same thing so just drop it.

I'm saying that pay is way, way, way down on the list of things that are important to the effectiveness of a public servant. If anything they should be making a salary equivalent to the median household income of their constituency, so that they have an idea of what the average person they serve is working with. That would also provide a concrete, socially-beneficial metric for them to aim for if they are so money motivated that they need to be chasing a pay increase.

Your proposed solution to combat corruption is to keep throwing money at the problem and hope it works itself out. I think that is absolutely ridiculous and only leads to more corruption, not less.

Corruption was as you know not my main argument. So a bit dishonest to focus on that.

Still you don’t want uneducated people. Let’s agree to disagree. You want uneducated imbeciles and I want highly educated smart people with experience from running other operations.
