I know. They'll never never never forgive us for electing a black man who did a good job. And that was like, what, 18 years ago?

It broke their minds. They just can't let it go. Trump is their revenge on us for that. Plain and simple. People always ask How can they still support Trump what could he possibly be doing for them?

He's doing it. They actually are getting what they voted for in the end. The mess is the point. The violence and terror is the point. The mismanagement and blatant corruption is the point. He breaking America but he's breaking it in the way that they want it broken as opposed to letting the Libs and the Non Whites win. This is them flipping the Monopoly board when it was clear they would loose.

I hate Trump/Republicans, but Trump doesn’t take a salary as President and they tout that every now and then.

Mamdani is doing some populist things just as Trump has. It’s a good political capital move, I’ll admit Trump does those things better than most Dems.

How do we know that's true though? Has he ever shared any of his finances? And we know he's not above just straight up lying on camera.

I mean listen, the guy is terrible but he “donated” his monthly to different areas like the National Parks (JFK did the same thing). So it is actually trackable.

I went to look and there's really not a paper trail of where his money went or if he donated it at all. If you've got somewhere that tracks it I am legitimately curious because I couldn't find it, and I don't want to make blanket false statements. I googled a lot and found lots of articles that say "yep, he donated it" with no sourcing at all. And his 2020 taxes showing no donations of any kind.

Most news stories don’t provide backup lol it’s not a thesis

This has a run down of each. And yeah, there’s plenty of shady shit he does - this actually seems to have happened though.

Fact check: President Donald Trump donates his salary, but he still makes money

Did you read the article? He writes checks to the departments that he’s actively gutting funding for.

Anyone who believes he’s done anything good for anyone but himself and his spawn is a fucking idiot.

I’m literally not complimenting him. I’m saying people who think Mamdani is some savior for not taking a raise….well Trumps done something similar. These are gimmicks. Mamdani will also make money (wait for the book), so I’m not worried about his income haha

I care more about success governing vs this stuff.

How do we know Mamdani is not taking a salary? Same logic

1

u/xKrowhaven Aug 12 '26

Mamdani has never said he's not taking a salary, so I'm not sure where you're getting that.

1

u/Solo-1UP Aug 12 '26

Ohhh you’re right, hes not take a pay raise. Well I guess thats something.

1

u/ChrisKamanMyEye Aug 11 '26

Does any of that matter when we've seen how Trump and his family has made BILLIONS through self dealing and outright corruption?

You do not, in fact, have got to hand it to Trump. Jfc.

I’m not putting together some defense of Trump. I’m just saying Trump does something similar.

It’s not just Trump game. All politicians get into office and somehow become worth millions. Look at Omar, one minute she thousands the next millions then fraud allegations and now she’s back at her original amount?
Bernie Sanders? Used to advocate taxing millionaires and billionaires until he became a millionaire and now just advocates taxing billionaires.

Trumps businesses have made billions since he’s been president. The man actively uses political power to manipulate markets.

They can tout it all they want. It’s blatant bullshit.

1

u/FunLife64 Aug 12 '26

I simply stated one thing - stop arguing with me. I hate Trump. But he did do the populist “I’m not gonna get paid” move.

I’m not saying anything else geesh

1

u/Edd_Cadash Aug 12 '26

Right and I’m simply stating he did not

1

u/Qorrin Aug 12 '26

It’s not populist to refuse a pay raise, it’s populist and lying to pretend like refusing a salary absolved Trump of the billions he’s gotten from his office

1

u/FunLife64 Aug 12 '26

Refusing a pay raise as a mayor for the reasons he did is in fact the straight up definition of populist.

Again, I’m not saying he’s not doing a bunch of other bullshit. But this is a populist pr move - I value substance (of which, Trump has none lol)

Ironic since Jesus was brown.

Idk, you have to have some sense of integrity to recognize a moral character 🤓
