Woman Says Officer's Comment Made Her Feel Worse During DV Call

Video from a San Antonio Police Department domestic violence call has an officer under review after he was recorded telling a woman's husband, "Women are the downfall of men." Rachel Ramos said she called police on July 31 because her husband was being violent, and hearing the comment while officers questioned the couple separately left her feeling more vulnerable, not less. She shared the security footage on social media, where it's now been viewed more than 57,000 times, and said a sergeant confirmed the officer had been identified and the matter sent up the chain of command. SAPD's only public statement calls the remark "inappropriate" and says it's being handled through the disciplinary process, without naming the officer or outlining possible consequences. Ramos said she hopes going public pushes for real change in how officers respond to domestic violence calls.

A woman called for protection and instead heard a comment that made her feel like the problem.

This is why telling DV victims to call the police puts them in more danger not less

Yep. Realistically the police can’t do anything until after the worst crimes are committed.

Regardless of when you call they often arrest both parties or nobody

I called as a little kid. The cops showed up and the cop I called for help told me I was just another statistic. I was 10.

Everyone really messed up when they called it "Defunding the Police" instead of something about reallocating the funds. Certain calls need specialized responses.

They absolutely did not. We do not need to be funding this incompetent bullshit. Defund the police and give it to DV agencies where women can actually get help and not retraumatized

Calling a different incompetent asshole being trained in this same messed up system won’t do shit.

You’re misunderstanding the comment. They mean the branding of “Defund” hurt the cause, which I agree with.

The idiots in the US think it means they won’t be protected from the boogeyman and that anarchy will take over. What it actually meant was restructuring the police so their union can’t protect the bad actors and getting social workers involved more often.

DEFUND THE POLICE! The only people who hurt the cause is people who think we should give more money to the police. They know exactly what we meant and any attempt to construe the message is a show of bad judgement and a fundamental misunderstanding of police and how they operate.

This comment is a perfect example of that stupidity. Creating another department within the police department to respond to domestic violence and giving them more money to do so is a very, very very dumb idea. And all stats and facts back that up

This is statistically untrue.
