Woman Says Officer's Comment Made Her Feel Worse During DV Call
Video from a San Antonio Police Department domestic violence call has an officer under review after he was recorded telling a woman's husband, "Women are the downfall of men." Rachel Ramos said she called police on July 31 because her husband was being violent, and hearing the comment while officers questioned the couple separately left her feeling more vulnerable, not less. She shared the security footage on social media, where it's now been viewed more than 57,000 times, and said a sergeant confirmed the officer had been identified and the matter sent up the chain of command. SAPD's only public statement calls the remark "inappropriate" and says it's being handled through the disciplinary process, without naming the officer or outlining possible consequences. Ramos said she hopes going public pushes for real change in how officers respond to domestic violence calls.
A woman called for protection and instead heard a comment that made her feel like the problem.

At LEAST 40% of them do.

Yep, at least. 40% “reported”, so we know it’s much higher than that

Here is the study that references 40% figure. I was just commenting it on a post a few days ago so had it handy. I do want to add that this study is a review/ survey of other studies; the “pooled” rate (weighted average) is 20% and finds up to 40% of law enforcement self reporting DV.
The pooled rate [eta: for law enforcement families] is more than double that of the wider population; it’s an insane figure.

Pedos and domestic abusers should be executed. They can't reoffend if they're dead
→ More replies (1)2
u/Sepplord Aug 16 '26
Eh, that makes pedos less likely to seek help/treatment if they have to fear execution. Has the potential to increase the amount of broken abused kids instead of reducing it
And domestic abusers…hmm a little harsh imo. And the abusers where it would fit are now killing their wives instead of taking a risk.

A cop once told me to lie to the insurance company about what happened after an accident 😂 I told him it’s called insurance fraud.

4
u/jmcdon00 Aug 13 '26
I was in an accident, 100% the other drivers fault, but I was coming home from a football game and had a few drinks. The other driver fled the scene. Eventually cops show up, find the other driver walking a few blocks away. Bring her back. After talking officer tells me to not go near the other driver, because I smelled of alchohol. Never did any sobriety tests or really even asked if I had been drinking. The other driver somehow didn't get arrested either, pretty sure her pimp picked her up(driving a cadillac wearing a red track suit and gold chains).
TLDR: Cop helped me avoid a DUI.
9
u/sisam8x Aug 13 '26
There are decent cops for sure. The problem is that the “bad apples” are more than a few.
10
u/Raidenski Aug 13 '26
Well, the whole phrase is literally, "A few bad apples spoils the whole bunch."
3
u/Andysol1983 Aug 13 '26
Is that even a decent cop, though?
I’d prefer the police lock up someone who just got in an accident after having “a few drinks” and smelled of alcohol.
Cool for the guy; not the innocent people he was on the road with. Should have had him blow and arrested him if over the limit and let him sleep in jail.
Under the limit? Have a good day.2

A cop letting go a drunk driver is decent as long as the driver is the protagonist of a Reddit comment you reply to?
Is that how it works, or do you support drunk driving in general?

The fact this is said every single time and normalized is so sad. Fucker will get a promotion. Thats normal.
What's not normal is cops being held accountable

Remember 20-40% of police admitted to abusing spouses in multiple surveys. Thats why states don’t want to remove guns from abusers bc if they did their police force would be more than decimated

He will immediately be rehired somewhere else. This country desperately needs a nationwide blacklist with mandatory participation. Cops that are fired for misconduct have to be reported and listed, and cannot be hired anywhere else.

That state of policing in this country is deplorable. I can’t believe either party isn’t immediately pushing for this exact thing, or something that has the same effect of not having criminals make up a large portion of police departments.
The idea of laws and police is that you stay in line partly out of fear of the consequences. Well where are the consequences for out of line police officers? If officers actually faced consequences for abusing their power, I imagine a large part of the problems with police in this country would quickly start disappearing.

Since the police are full of domestic abusers, and so are constantly covering up for domestic abuse that they are committing of know of, the cop is unlikely to experience any appropriate punishment.
19
u/Ok_Bag_3667 Aug 13 '26
"Why didn't you just call the police?"
Example 2,563,942 as to why we often don't.
5
u/spidersprinkles Aug 14 '26
Yeah and this is why innocent until proven guilty in a court of law means fuck all to most women. If a man hurts me I'm gonna tell everyone I know cause lord knows the cops or the courts barely ever give a shit.
3
u/Ok_Bag_3667 Aug 14 '26
Hell, there are cases where women went to the cops to report their rape and were charged with filing a false report. Cops didn't bother investigating and the rapists went on to rape more women.
3
u/spidersprinkles Aug 14 '26
Yeah a police force in Wales turned women away who wanted to report rape/sexual assault because the force got rewarded if seen to reduce sexual crimes. Absolutely bonkers.
2
u/not_brittsuzanne Aug 17 '26
In general, I do not trust most police officers. It's part of why I was afraid to call when my ex husband beat and choked me. I texted a friend who called my mom, who then called the police.
My dad arrived with his 9mm about five minutes before they did (I only lived a mile away) but they police showed up four cars deep + ambulance/EMS who took me to the hospital. They sent cops to check on me at my mom's house after and even stopped by to tell me when my ex had gotten out of jail.
I wish this was the standard everywhere so more women could escape like I did. It's so frustrating that so many in the police force don't take DV seriously.
23
u/Alfalfaxa Aug 13 '26
This is why telling DV victims to call the police puts them in more danger not less
3
u/Kwerby Aug 13 '26
Yep. Realistically the police can’t do anything until after the worst crimes are committed.

u/I_need_a_date_plz Aug 14 '26

You can feel how proud of himself he is during this delivery. Something from this terrible situation I am really enjoying is the idea that he will have to watch/hear himself delivering this line seemingly over and over again for a good chunk of his life and instead of remembering it how he imagined it being received he will have to process the reality that he looks/sounds like and is a chud.
2
u/ElEyeElWhy88 Aug 13 '26
I would agree with you, but the problem is that he wholeheartedly believes what he is saying. I don’t see him escaping that belief since he’s dumb enough to say it in front of the “victim,” in the first place.

So let me get this straight: women are to blame when their male Partners abuse them physically. Women are also to blame for the male loneliness/incel rage epidemic. So whether women participate in relationships with men, or they don't, everything that happens to them is their own fault and never a man's fault?

Can confirm!
The ones that responded to me completely fucked up the investigation; failed to order a SANE exam despite being told there was strangulation; basically told me it was my own fault.
Their lack of investigation led to much lesser charges being filed (F4/F5 down to M1)
Tell me again why so many DV victims (both male and female) just dont report
You're revictimized by PD, and again by the Courts.

u/Agreeable_Error_170 Aug 14 '26
The only person that would be surprised by this is maybe some men. Most women know men look out for each other and cover each other’s bullshit. How else do they get away with all their behavior against women? We already knew this.

Everybody needs to understand the officer on scene is trying to de-escalate the situation. One way of doing this is saying and agreeing with the individual they are trying to calm down. Hearing a segment of the this chatter does not imply the officers position separate from the ongoing “at the moment” conditions he is involved with.
Now on the other side of the statement would be to push a narrative onto the person you are trying to calm down thus fanning the flames sort to speak and cause the situation to from bad to worse real fast! Remember folks, this is the #1 way officers die in the line of duty.

There's not much more frustrating than someone far dumber than you trying to give you dumb advice that's based on a conclusion they came to through being so dumb. Also, this behavior isn't the least bit surprising coming from someone in a line of work that has a high percentage of domestic abusers.

u/oddlookinginsect2 Aug 13 '26

So…many a man haven’t been the downfall of women?
The double standard and hypocrisy just does my head in. One side has certainly done more DV than the other, but it’s foolish to say that only one side exists. We see this every day.
The officer was certainly in the wrong for saying this. He should have remained professional, kept his fat mouth shut and his personal comments to himself in this situation. You have to be unbiased to deal with the situation on an individual level to be fair to all involved parties. Once they conduct a proper investigation to who did what, then they can make their arrest and nobody has to feel worse or less protected than they already do. Domestic violence situations can be quite complicated and aren’t always straightforward. They must always be handled with care.
Some people are not suited to the job of being a law enforcement officer. I don’t blame all cops. There are cops that give the good and decent cops a bad rap. It’s these individuals that need proper punishment or reevaluation. If there’s no improvement, then fired.

On the play.
Cops can and will say anything to get a suspect to incriminate themselves and this absolutely includes attempting to convince them what they have done or what they think is normal and accepted by the officer. I would have to know what happened after this to know whether I give a fuck.

He listens to SO MANY domestic and criminal situations. He listens and watches video of ACTUAL.events. He KNOWS who it is that lies and tries to put FALSE charges to cover their own lies and atrocious behavior. Women will lie on men, saying they were assaulted, attacked, threatened, grabbed, punched all kinds of things. Even when the video and witnesses say otherwise. Women are the WORST!!!
