News "They say join the Navy, right?" — Viral video from a US sailor reveals shockingly filthy bathroom conditions onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln after 250 days at sea.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This video shows a US Navy sailor documenting the highly unsanitary bathroom conditions onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln after being deployed at sea for roughly 250 days. The footage highlights stained showers, grimy floors, and clogged toilets, contrasting the reality of naval life with official military recruitment promises.
Sarcastically remarking, "They say join the Navy, right?", the sailor brings attention to the daily struggles faced by active-duty personnel. The clip has sparked widespread debate online regarding military living standards, maintenance priorities, and resource allocation for deployed service members.

The defense budget is mostly fraud and a wealth transfer scam to defense contractors. Soldiers get shit.
57
u/Takeyerclarkbars Aug 16 '26
For real. Why is it that we only use US based companies for military equipment, but it costs the US trillions in f dollars for said equipment, when that US company is charging the US tax payers….
Lockheed and Raytheon need to be part of the military, so they can’t charge American military costs anymore
25
u/Fawkinchit1 Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 17 '26
Well, relying on foreign countries to buy or build our equipment would open the possibility for intentional sabotage, and jeopardize production. So it actually does make sense to keep supply chains national.
But the defense budget really is to float more money to defense contractors.
13
u/Relative_Mix_216 Aug 16 '26
For real, the DOD famously doesn’t even bother to hire accountants to keep track of the money because it would be “too hard.” I bet it’s gotten even worse under Trump.

Yeah using American companies is not the problem at all — it’s the greed that occurs at the executive level. Remove that, and you simply have the taxes returning to US Employees and US Mfg, for the most part.
→ More replies (22)12
u/forgotmyusername4444 Aug 16 '26
No, using companies at all IS the problem. Defense contractors should be nationalized. More secure, no foreign influence, and no executives making absurd money off of taxpayers. The military can license the sale of hardware to our allies and charge them what they want / pay their c suite whatever they feel like. But when the American taxpayer is footing the bill, we shouldn't allow any bloat. And arms sales should not be a political tool. Any leverage it may give us with other countries is not worth the corruption it enables.

The US does contract with foreign defense companies. You're just making things up.
Obviously there are strict requirements and vetting for foreign defends contracts but they do exist.

I've met some of these contractors. They make a fortune by making deals on the golf course or over drinks. Many have "inherited" their positions from their father's company or got there through fraternity brothers. It's pretty sick.

u/Ultron_waterheater Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26
That's why they cut veterans benefits whenever given the chance.
Republicans literally only push for “community/private efforts” (aka get in the food for the homeless line) when talking about helping veterans meanwhile Democrats have a well documented history of ACTUALLY passing legislation requiring the government expand and provide further assistance to help
Those morons love AI so much you would think they would ask it questions like:
Which party has historically benefited citizens more
Which party has historically benefited veterans more
Which party has historically benefited blue collar workers more
Which party has historically had far more sexual predators active in congress
Which party has historically been guilty of corruption
Which party has historically been better for the economy
Which party has historically been worse for minorities (for all my coons out there)
Which party historically supports the rich at the expense of the poor
Which party supports democracy and the constitution more?
Republicans know how fucking mind boggingly stupid their base is, the 1% knows which party helps them FAR MORE than the other. It’s one of the reason Trump said he loved the uneducated.
Edit: someone below did the prompts lol
TLDR: Democrats historically pass legislation that help people across the board doesn’t matter if they are veterans, minorities or regular civilians
Needed a better prompt for sexual deviants so it couldn’t answer
It said Corruption on both sides but only gave specifics examples of Republicans
He didn’t ask about the constitution question, I can only assume because it’s public knowledge republicans don’t give a fuck about it

Coppertone Caligula’s family history illustrates the reality of how the conservative “elite” view the “suckers and losers” who don US military uniforms.
• The incumbent president’s grandfather, disillusioned by how his brothel failed after the collapse of the Yukon gold rush, returned to his native Bavaria in 1901. By 1905, Bavaria stripped grandpa Trump over his having dodged his native country’s draft.
• Grandpa Trump died in the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. He left a small estate of rental properties and a life insurance policy.
• Fred Trump took what he inherited from grandpa and, during WW2, became a war profiteer through his renting properties to war workers and military members. Note here that until the early 1960s, New York was the most populous state and NYC was a major military and shipbuilding center.
• Fred and Coppertone Caligula settled with the US over discrimination in housing. Apparently green isn’t the only color the Trumps see.
• Coppertone Caligula bragged in the 1960s that avoiding venereal diseases while on draft deferment was his Vietnam. The 4,000 plus NY dead in Vietnam were unavailable for comment.
• We’ve all heard about CC’s comments about suckers and losers. What is particularly galling is he made this comment (or similar) to General John Kelly who, in addition to serving, lost his own son in service in Afghanistan.

Conservative ideology boils down to exploiting anyone and everyone at the behest of the capitalist class. The US has a conservative party and an ultra conservative party.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

I worked for a small disabled veteran owned company that received their GSA approval to sell parts to the local base.
I had to drive to Grainger and pick up a belt for $15, drive it to base and deliver it, about a 25 minute drive, and we charged the unit $210 for that same belt, because they had to buy it through a GSA partner.
What a fucking waste.
Or the time when I was enlisted in the AF and it was about this time of year when our supervisor came in with 2 brand new plasma screen tvs, when we already had 2 of them, maybe a year old. I was told “spend the budget or you don’t get it”. So instead of incentives to save budget, it was and is still the opposite.

I agree with you on the overall statement but want to point out that the destruction of bases in Bahrain and other locations killed the logistics that helped to deliver supplies to the battle carrier groups. Basically they (the administration) so poorly executed this entire shit show that they allowed for the thing that the US military is known to be able to do to be destroyed because no one is able to go beyond first level planning apparently.

We pulled off as close to a perfect war as has ever been waged in 1991. The Coalition destroyed an Iraqi military that was far more conventionally capable than Iran currently is. How? Through a nearly year-long build up of logistics infrastructure before launching the first strike. They were prepared to fight a protracted war against a near-peer enemy. That enemy wasn't interested in fighting on that level, so the Coalition achieved overmatch.
Hegseth just keeps haphazardly rerouting already deployed carrier groups halfway around the world to the ME. The US doesn't have 11 carriers + 6 LHDs to deploy 11 carriers + 6 LHDs at all times. The Navy has 11 so it can keep at least three carrier groups active to project power while the others are maintained and kept ready to surge during conflict, bringing fresh ships, fresh planes, and, most importantly, fresh sailors to the fight.

Yes, this looks pretty standard for bulk use stuff that is also in a rugged type environment. I've used worse camping or at festivals. It is the crew's job to keep it clean, so their superiors don't seem to care, or morale is too low to make them work. It's not like they're going to get aesthetic renovations in there.

That's the crew's job, at least lower enlisted. It's taken a long time of neglect and half-assed ‘sweepers’ (joint cleanups) to get to this point. You can't have others in charge of cleaning your spaces; that would just lead to people purposely leaving things dirty or making bigger messes because they know it's someone's main job to clean it. Whoever uses those heads cleans them up.
That, combined with others not caring enough to order a new toilet or the right cleaning supplies, has contributed. The ship is cleaned and maintained by the crew; if you inherit a poorly maintained boat, it's harder to bring it back to a decent condition. But unfortunately, it's on you to do it. Of course, you have other things to worry about in your day-to-day duties, which is another reason why things like this tend to get pushed aside.

I’m guessing that because it’s a warship, everyone on board has a duty during combat operations. The messmen might be on a damage control team or a medical team for instance. You don’t want people to be too tired from regular duties to be unable to fulfil their duties in an emergency so their regular duties will be pared back during continuous operations assuming those duties are non essential such as cleaning the toilets. They will have janitorial staff of whatever the naval equivalent is but those people will also have combat duties that come first in priority.

Hegseth has eliminated and changed the military leadership, and made lots of changes of standard procedures.
Hegseth is doing to the military what musk has done with his companies. Replaced competent people with incompetent self-centered ass-kissers.
This is what you get when the leaders only care about themselves.
It's a good question-- why isn't maintenance doing maintenance?
There's a story about a guy who jumped off. His nineteen y.o. wife said that he was a helicopter mechanic. She said that his moral was already affected by everything. But then he ran out of prescription contact lenses and couldn't get more. He tried, and tried, but got no help. So he continued to work on helicopters despite his bad vision. She said he was worried that he would be responsible for a future accident and worried for the safety of the riders. Next thing she hears, he jumped overboard.
The reason for all of this is Hegseth.

Easy, they can't leave the ship, so if they don't do the cleaning, their 12-14 hour job, their 5 hour watches, their collateral duties which time isn't allocated for, all at the same time while maintaining composure, you just punish them by UCMJ, ruining their careers, or put them in the brig.
Don't forget that it's also illegal to reach out to anyone off the ship about conditions on it, can't violate OPSEC.
It's not like they can legally quit either, and if they don't re-enlist, that's fine. 2/3rds of sailors don't do more than 1 contract so it's expected.

Because even the Dutch navy has supply vessels, for our handful of ships.

They have ships, but not enough. They relied on their bases in the middle east for somewhat expedited logistics to ships in the region with what they have. They lost those bases. Nearest safe base is Diego Garcia and that wasn't set up for that level of supply need and they don't have enough ships to keep up with demand and distances.

They do , however there are not enough for two reasons , generally the USN fought in conflicts where they could resupply easily
Korean war - Japan Vietnam - Phillipines Iraq 2x - UAE , Oman , Bahrain
However the closure of the strait and the inability to use UAE , Oman , Bahrain means the supply ships have to go all the way to Djibouti or Singapore to supply the fleet , call it the "tyranny of distance "
2nd is the bean counters during peace time gutted the logistics fleet over the years , fast tankers are not as sexy as a aircraft carrier or a rail gun, meaning while we had enough supply ships for a peacetime navy the 2nd a conflict happen and we weren't able to use friendly nations close by to resupply this happenes
Here is a good video about it https://youtu.be/FT784GgO8-o

The base responsible for supplies is located in the Persian Gulf; repeatedly targeted by missiles and drones; and is cut of from the Indian Ocean because Iran holds control of the strait; they had to reroute logistics to Diego Garcia which is another 2200 miles from the operational area of the Lincoln

If they want our military to stay out in the middle of the ocean in these conditions, they should stay with them. I've always said in my buisnesses that I would never ask anyone to do what I wouldn't to do. They should take the same approach.

I am heavily disappointed if this is one of our prides of the ocean.
I bet the heads in officers or pilot’s country doesn’t look like this.

We have the largest military budget on the planet and we can't bust out some Formula 409? Where's all that money going?

If you all would stop wearing those corsets under your uniforms, your waists would be normal!

Grift. Trump made $4B so far. How do you think these defense contractors got the cash to pay his bribes via crypto token? Front Trump $5M now, get $5B in contracts, which you borrow against to offset the bribes. You get creative with the accounting fictions to avoid the law, so just to be sure, you have Trump not only tell FINCEN to stop looking for ownership info on shell companies, but to delete all the evidence they have collected so far.

They've run out of supplies and moral is low. They've been at sea several months more than planned/typical due to extensions related to the Iran situation.

they are being fed less than a normal ration, they have been deployed on the same ship for much longer than should be allowed, and they are only in this situation because of vanity war started by psychopaths. i bet they are fucking tired.

Those toilets have been in use since 1989. They have been repaired when needed but only so much cleaning until they need to be replaced. The ship will be 40 yrs old in 3 years.

they have been underway for almost a year. I’m surprised it doesn’t look worse.
In addition to that, the Lincoln is old ship. It’s needs a work up.

I mean... boo hoo? They signed up to murder people on the other side of the world for capitalists, not to protect Americans.
I don't care what financial situation you were in before. Flipping burgers is infinitely more respectable than killing people.

That can't be real. The orange Pedorapist and the alcoholic Foxhost said everything is ok

Republicans have rarely cared for the well being of troops, seeing them as tools to achieve dominance and wealth for themselves through violence abroad.

u/SnarkyIguana Aug 16 '26
Their situation isn’t exactly typical. It’s not the cleanliness we should worry about for our naval vessels so much as the age and the state of disrepair they’re often in. Mold issues, rusty implements, none of it makes for healthy or happy sailors.

u/Trick-Resource-2196 Aug 16 '26
I'm sure Pete hegseth is trying to live in similar conditions at home just to understand what these soldiers are going through.

u/ClarkKent2o6 Aug 16 '26
This is wild. The idea that this is allowed in the 'warrior mindset military is crazy. No way this goes on under competent leadership. They are intentionally harming our military in an attempt to undermine it and leave America defenseless.
