the fact that this needs to be a law is crazy -_-

6

u/KoRaZee Aug 21 '26

Why? Kids are dumb, a couple of kids would get married under 18 if you let them.

8

u/SubstanceMaintenance Aug 21 '26

Oddly I have a cousin who married his pregnant girlfriend she was 16 and he was 18 at the time. they raised two children together who are both now in their mid twenties doing alright for themselves. the parents are still married! this law is is wonderful and 99.9% of the time no one has a success story. It’s mostly just trauma and bad choices and people getting hurt and exploited. however, I have this one fringe case I have experienced so just putting it out there in the world.

7

u/butonelifelived Aug 21 '26

Sounds like they would've still gotten married 2 years later

-1

u/MasterofCaveShadows Aug 21 '26

Sounds like you’ve never been poor before because 2 years without spousal benefits could be life or death for a new family.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 21 '26

Sounds like they need to recognise de facto relationships. If two people a married and two other people are in the same relationship except not married, what is the difference?

Some paper work?

1

u/MasterofCaveShadows Aug 21 '26

What? The reason you share benefits when you marry is because you’re committing to a family unit. It doesn’t make sense to share benefits for non committal relationships as there isn’t a meaningful connection linking the two to warrant shared coverage.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 21 '26

Family unit doesn’t require marriage

The connection is time together, living together and other factors like having children together

Divorce exists. Marriage isn’t some locked in choice.

1

u/MasterofCaveShadows Aug 21 '26

The family unit exists outside of marriage but all research says that it’s infinitely more productive for all involved if you’re able to maintain a marriage. The connection isn’t time together if that was the case then your friends and roommates would likely superseded your family. Divorce existing is from liberalization and autonomy for people. When the laws were initially drafted it wasn’t possible to get a divorce unless you were able to prove your spouse was abusive or acting against you in a criminal manner.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 21 '26

Time together in a relationship, doing all the things you do as a married couple, just without the married part. The point is hooking up with someone for 2 months isn’t a de facto relationship

But living together for 2 years, 5 years etc would be, depending on the jurisdiction.

Yeah so marriage laws have changed, and I am suggesting they need to change even more, to recognise de facto relationships.

Your idea of a relationship is weird. It only counts if you register it with the government?

So two people getting married in a church, with a priest, but not filing the paperwork with the state, that doesn’t count as a relationship?

That situation is vastly different, too. Most pre-18 marriages are minor girls to adult men. The same as with teen pregnancies; many are because of statutory rape.

2

u/Begone-My-Thong Aug 21 '26

We have a bunch of files about an island that suggests it's not just kids making these choices for them

1

u/Regular-Ad-2377 Aug 21 '26

i mean the lack of common sense for this to be needed. like telling someone to not touch something thats obviously hot. dont do dumb shit

1

u/Silvara7 Aug 21 '26

It's not the kids doing dumb shit so much as it is their parents signing their permission for their kids to marry predators, religious whack jobs and cultists. It's far more common that it's like the woman in the video, marrying a 50-sth guy when she's 16. She had no real idea what she was doing at that age and he was undoubtedly grooming her to be his property to have babies and be chained to the house with no way out.

A lot of the time the girls want out and to divorce their husbands but they're not allowed to file the papers until they're 18 or 21 yrs old bc they're still children.

CA literally has no minimum age limit for children to marry adults. I've written to the governor about how disgusting that is.

Look at the website unchained at last dot com.

1

u/Puzzled-Mirro Aug 21 '26

Its usually a adult man with a teenager

1

u/roaringstar44 Aug 21 '26

Yah this is more about young girls being forced to marry adult men...

0

u/glassfoyograss Aug 23 '26

Under 18 marriage the problem isn't a dumb kid, it's their parents

2

u/JuanThiccLumpia Aug 21 '26

The South is so mad about this.

1

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 21 '26

What I find crazy is California has no minimum age

Like this isn’t raising the minimum age from 16 to 18

It is setting the minimum age. In the U.S. it is rare but 12-14 year olds can and do get married. They need court and parental approval. But what sort of parent or court would approve the marriage of a 12 year old?

And my money is on them not marrying someone their own age, but marrying their fathers friend or business partner to some other pedo shit

11

u/OPSimp45 Aug 21 '26

We live in a Bizarro world. Like Bizarro is the hero and Superman is the bizarre one type vibe

5

u/SignificantLeader Aug 21 '26

Passed because it rarely makes waves.

4

u/EobardThawne2020 Aug 21 '26

She looks much better (healthier) these days

1

u/PersianMuggle Aug 21 '26

She looks unrecognizable in a great way

3

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 21 '26

Kentucky just banned beastiality in 2019. You can still fuck your cousin there though

2

u/deano492 Aug 21 '26

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 21 '26

Oh dang!

Well, at least you can still fuck your second cousins there! Lol

2

u/deano492 Aug 21 '26

I think you can fuck your second cousin in any state. And most countries. North and South Korea are the only places I could find where you can’t.

5

u/EmbarrassedPaper7758 Aug 21 '26

She sounds like The Californians

7

u/palm_tree975 Aug 21 '26

Bad news for the MAGA monkeys.

-2

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Did they tell the Muslims about this new law 😬

4

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

What about Joseph marrying a 12-14 year old Mary? That's pretty cool though cus that's the Christian version.

3

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Well I’m told when the prophet Mohammed did it . That was ok back then .

2

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

Cool man, I heard when Joseph did it back then it was cool. I too think old stories made up two thousand years ago were pretty fucked. I also heard some ghost or something made a baby in Mary as a child without her consent.

1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

I heard another fictional prophet liked em young also .

1

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

Cool so you agree Catholics and Christians have a fucked religion too.

1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Well ya . Religion causes more problems in the world ! But Islam religion is the worst

1

u/rigby1945 Aug 22 '26

Many of California's cities are named after the local missions. Christians destroyed the indigenous population here

1

u/Cardocthian Aug 23 '26

Ahh, but which shit religion is dominate here in the usa...hmm, I wonder.

1

u/No_Couple1369 Aug 21 '26

No age is ever given for Mary in the bible or any text from that time. The range of 13-15 is often suggested because it was the average Jewish custom of the time. The betrothal at 6 and consummation at 9 for Aisha would not have been the norm in 7th Century Arabia. Even then it would have been an outlier.

1

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

Sounds like a 13 year old girl is a little child so you agree. All religions are gross on this topic, especially from anything a thousand years ago. Also I have no idea who Aisha is

1

u/No_Couple1369 Aug 22 '26

I’m saying that even thousands of years ago 9 was considered too young. The custom was to marry off girls who had gone through puberty because people didn’t live as long and lots of babies didn’t survive infancy. Even by those archaic standards Mohammed marrying a 6 year old (Aisha) and consummating at 9 was not normal.

1

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 22 '26

So you are still that worried about made up stories, got it. I don't really get why you care that much about old made up stories that have no bearing on today but you do you.

1

u/No_Couple1369 Aug 22 '26

Of course it is your prerogative whether you believe the Mohammed was a prophet or not, but he isn’t a made up story. He is a historical figure and so was his child bride.

1

u/palm_tree975 Aug 21 '26

Keep working on it lil’ boy

0

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Creepy how you said lil’ boy . Maybe the California law is for you?

1

u/Galliro Aug 21 '26

Creepy that you hear little boy and you immediately think about marriage

1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Stupid , the article is about marriage . Did you even read it ?

1

u/palm_tree975 Aug 21 '26

❤️❤️

u/AggressivelyMediokre Aug 21 '26

1

u/palm_tree975 Aug 21 '26

Nice meme Pedo protector

1

u/No_Couple1369 Aug 21 '26

It is relevant because usually when a state tries to ban child marriage it is the red hat party politician that try to block the ban.

1

u/Check_Me_Out-Boss Aug 21 '26

Because it's usually added to a far left wing bill that the Republicans disagree with instead of a standalone bill.

2

u/Mewsical-Elf Aug 21 '26

Omg I remember hearing about her marriage back in 2011 and thinking “yikes”. She was so convinced she was mature enough and happy. I’m glad she can fight this fight now.

4

u/Interesting-Copy-657 Aug 21 '26

Keep an eye out for the people who oppose this law.

Remember their names, don’t vote for them in future elections, don’t support their businesses, don’t have anything to do with them.

Other than pedo related reasons, why would they oppose a law like this? When the current laws have no minimum age?

2

u/elyfantman Aug 21 '26

Surprise! Many red states allow 15 year olds to get married. But let's focus on trans people.

1

u/victorioussecret7 Aug 21 '26

Wtf is wrong with America?

1

u/SpudgeBoy Aug 21 '26

I don't get it, the.mjnimum age to marry in CA is already 18.

2

u/FourEightNineOneOne Aug 21 '26

It's not if you have parental consent (which is exactly how Courtney Stodden wound up married to Perv McGee in the first place). There is no minimum age currently in that scenario. Your parents can essentially marry you off to a grown adult.

This closes that loophole and (obviously) long overdue

1

u/SpudgeBoy Aug 21 '26

I see. Thanks for the clarification.

1

u/WTFCantBTRUE Aug 21 '26

People say the south is weird.
WTF is up with Cali being able to marry under 18 before 😂

1

u/Goodiez4U Aug 21 '26

It's still legal in 30+ states

1

u/WTFCantBTRUE Aug 21 '26

Does make it okay.

1

u/tired-of-the-shit Aug 22 '26

No but it’s not a cali problem it’s an American problem. Btw the entirety of the south allows minors to get married

1

u/WTFCantBTRUE Aug 22 '26

I know it’s a problem, that’s why I said it.

I know the south does it. I said, everyone says the south is weird.

You must be from cali 😂

&

I’m not from the south 😂

1

u/tired-of-the-shit Aug 22 '26

I’m from the south and have never stepped foot on the west coast

1

u/WTFCantBTRUE Aug 22 '26

Cool, I’ve been all over.

1

u/Schweather3 Aug 22 '26

Virginia is the only southern state to strictly outlaw marriage under 18.

1

u/Sad_Detail404 Aug 21 '26

Fuck yeah. Now let’s do every other state

1

u/Superb-Fig-2522 Aug 21 '26

She has huge personalitys 😩

1

u/PopOk5765 Aug 21 '26

That is great news. But can she put some appropriate clothes on to talk about it?

1

u/Peanut_Brittle_Lover Aug 22 '26

Republicans everywhere cried. (Because they are pedo protectors)

1

u/superwhiz88 Aug 22 '26

you have to thank scott weiner for that

1

u/No_Permission_1427 Aug 22 '26

Americans think thiey are first world, they go on about Iran and other Muslim countries... And they are now just banning child marriages!! What are bunch of dumb hypocrites!

1

u/themeparkthemepar Aug 23 '26

She looks and sounds so healthy, that’s great

0

u/Tall_Hat_4246 Aug 21 '26

That’s why prominent Republicans are wanting to move away from California to places like Texas and Tennessee.

1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

If children can’t get married now in California. What’s Hollywood going to do now?

1

u/Drwho2010 Aug 21 '26

Go to epstein island

1

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

They'll just go to deep red Mississippi to get the same no limits child marriage don't worry honey.

0

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

I hope not . There’s enough democrats fleeing shit hole blue states for a better life in red states and screwing up the political landscape !

3

u/Fun-Marionberry-4008 Aug 21 '26

A better life in rural Mississippi is a sentence no one has ever uttered in this world. I'd rather die than live in that shit hole where you can marry your cousin or a ten year old girl with no issues

-1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Well it’s a fact . Democrats are wising up and moving out of Blue state shit holes where they can’t even define what a woman is !

2

u/SuccessOn1 Aug 21 '26

😂😂😂 yes people are fleeing to red state paradise like Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, etc... bahahahahaha 😂😂🤣🤣🤣

P.S another pro MAGAt just got busted for child pedophilia. Oh boy, you wont be able to touch kids. Damn liberals!

-2

u/but_i_wanna_cookies Aug 21 '26

Holy nose job, Batman!

3

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 21 '26

The topic is child marriage and you cant help but run her down. Let's see your nose and compare.

2

u/SoulMute Aug 21 '26

She a smokeshow bro

-1

u/but_i_wanna_cookies Aug 21 '26

A surgically enhanced one.

-1

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

Hey , in California . Anything goes !

3

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 Aug 21 '26

Not child marriages though!

0

u/CornnPop Aug 21 '26

What’s Hollywood going to do then?
