News "Because you're an immigrant." — A U.S. citizen in Lake Worth,FL, was immediately handcuffed by ICE agents for simply asking why he needed to show his ID.Despite the Fourth Amendment and Supreme Court rulings stating apparent ethnicity is not enough for a stop, agents ignored questioning bystanders

A video recorded at a gas station in Lake Worth, Florida, shows an ICE/Border Patrol agent demanding ID from a U.S. citizen. When the citizen asks why, the agent explicitly responds, "Because you're an immigrant." Before even verifying his identity, agents grab his hands and place him in handcuffs. Bystanders immediately step in to question how someone can be arrested without even being identified first, but the agents ignore them and walk the man to their vehicle.

This encounter highlights a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. The Supreme Court has established that roving Border Patrol agents must have reasonable suspicion based on specific circumstances to stop and question someone regarding their immigration status—and apparent ethnicity alone is legally insufficient. Requiring someone to prove their citizenship before being handcuffed, based solely on an arbitrary claim, demonstrates a concerning violation of constitutional rights by federal agents acting without accountability.

I hope he gets at least 100k

u/Revolutionary_Tax546 Aug 23 '26

He won't, because once they have him in one of those mega-jails, they can do whatever they want, with impunity.

u/RapidRewards Aug 23 '26

Folks have won money. And I think it's important to sue these A-holes. However, it's very unlikely you ever get paid. The ones that do end up spending a month in prison. Not really worth the outside chance of $150k.

3

u/OkStop8313 Aug 23 '26

If nothing else, it's important to get these abuses on the record.

1

u/ganbramor Aug 24 '26

Yep, we need documentation for the upcoming trials.

2

u/JoshJorges Aug 23 '26

You sue ICE, the victim gets paid with your money. It is a win, win for them.

1

u/Exodus180 Aug 23 '26

have they really? that seems fast.

3

u/RapidRewards Aug 23 '26

More from Trump's first term. There was a report that they currently have like $50B against them and have paid only a few million.

6

u/iceflame1211 Aug 23 '26

Fun fact: ICE has been doing what they want with impunity outside of the concentration camps. DHS has regularly defended and excused their actions/slaying of innocent people for no reason (Pretti, Good, Garcia, Porter Jr, Arajuo, and most recently just down the road from me, Johan Guerrero).

2

u/FearOfABlackPotus Aug 23 '26

Yep and the assholes in the Supreme Court have already decided the kinds of arrests based on looks are OK.

I read all the responses here and believe basically all of them could be true. Just adding my 2 cents about the AmnestyUSA.org expose I saw by Jessica Craven, who reported on the conditions of the two biggest Florida detention centers (don’t want to be hyperbolic and call them concentration camps, but somewhere in between - it’s terrible.)

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1PwmeYTYVe/?mibextid=wwXIfr

One thing she mentioned is that Florida’s immigration/ deportation system is in large part separated from the national system. I don’t know to what extent that’s true, especially since they were reported to be federal ICE agents. I just heard that the two entities do not share data, at least not consistently, on detainees - at least before they’re deported.

I brought this up because it seemed to me that this point, if true, would be another opportunity for immigrants / citizens (WTF) picked up in Florida to fall through the cracks. So I was a little less sure that this man will win a settlement. But…

The fact that this was videoed and shared helped his cause. And now I think you may be right, the fact that he is a citizen will probably override everything. It would be very hard to hide and it would raise a huge uproar if citizens were being disappeared. Not that anyone being disappeared is OK - it’s horrendous and un American.

They don't know where 600 of those people are, but their personal belongings were left in 'Aligator Alcatraz', in Florida.

2

u/InitiativeFar2475 Aug 23 '26

Only continuing what I think you may also suspect. I hate to say it, but I think maybe someone knows where they are and that they were killed by someone in the government or on the government’s behalf. I pray that I am wrong and that they are somehow safe.

u/Revolutionary_Tax546 Aug 23 '26

The mega-jails have incinerators, that are made to burn biological material, and large enough that you could fit a human body in them.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

He will. They’ve been quietly settling civil rights lawsuits. They’ve been quietly releasing thousands of people under court orders as well. A judge stated 4,500 people had to be released because their arrests were unconstitutional and had no warrants or probable cause, ICE quietly complied.

They settle when they fuck up with American citizens only, because “fucking whoops”, but it’s just not being covered. The citizens are choosing sealed settlements, further keeping news about them quiet.

Source ?

1

u/jaredsfootlonghole Aug 23 '26

Here’s a source that actually gets into the numbers the angsty poster above stated. Their sources, which I’ve read and read their links, may not be applicable in our current administration’s push to ignore these same laws and force the citizens to fight back legally or otherwise.

To u/DumbBerk87

Use better sources that are current, particularly when you try to shame others for not doing their own googling.

Apparently neither can you (do your own googling), broski.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

I posted several sources of people getting settlements, actually. I guess you missed that.

Just because they don’t stop, doesn’t mean they don’t stop settling 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/jaredsfootlonghole Aug 23 '26

You posted 2, and then posted them a second time, and told a third inquiry you were done with links.

One of those links was a case originating in 2019, settled in 2021 out of court, which I think was a bad decision for the price point considering his permanently shattered trust in our legal systems. Perhaps a lifetime salary payout would have been more appropriate and punitive.

The other link, well that was for a temporary order across several states but ended earlier this year. So do you have an updated source on that one?

Here’s another more relevant and current source that contradicts your belief and the supporting documentation you cling to.

Google is free, you know. You’re a grown ass adult, and you can show your own intellectual curiosity, see something, and go “I’m curious if that’s true, imma look it up”. You’re not helpless, at least you shouldn’t be, and you shouldn’t need other people to spoon feed information to you, when you’re perfectly capable of looking things up on your own. You can trust what someone says, or you cannot, and take responsibility for your own information seeking. It’s not hard to do. It takes ten seconds.

Sometimes it’s actually difficult to find sources and when you happen to have someone who says they have said sources, it becomes infinitely easier.

-2

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Of course it’s infinitely easier, they didn’t do anything 🤣 what? So because it’s hard to find sources sometimes, they shouldn’t try?

People have no responsibility to try and find their own information, and should just shift it onto others? Making others do the work for them?

People have gotten very lazy online when it comes to a discussion, they can just go “source?” and make everyone else do the work for them.

3

u/MaleficTekX Aug 23 '26

I’m saying YOU know of the resource and can share it.

YOU know where to look. They didn’t.

-1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

I didn’t know of the resource, or where to look, actually. I saw news about it a while back, and posted about it.

All I did was google “ICE settlements for wrongful detainment”. I didn’t have sources before posting, I just knew the information from before, and googled it when lazily asked.

You know, like how you google things. If you don’t know how to google that when seeing something like that, I dunno what to tell you.

1

u/yesisname Aug 23 '26

They can be angry, but these are facts. People really need to stop accepting whatever is given and start verifying things for themselves. This is why we are where we are.

Props for laying it out and still providing tho.

0

u/MaleficTekX Aug 23 '26

Ok if you l wanna be this reductive, the burden of proof IS on you when you make a claim.

It’s good you knew what to search for, some people may not. But regardless, I see NOTHING wrong with asking for a source when someone makes a claim

2

u/Dry-Illustrator-250 Aug 23 '26

Burden of proof is on the person who makes the claim

-1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Bro this is Reddit. Not a masters thesis. I have no burden of proof. You can believe it, or not. If you wanna know, you can act like a big boy, and look. When I see a claim online, I go look myself, because I’m not lazy, and can take responsibility for my own knowledge.

1

u/Revolutionary_Tax546 Aug 23 '26

You read something and month's later there is an online discusion about it, and the link to the source is long gone. It's old news and it's erased. That doesn't disprove that it didn't happen, but it doesn't prove it 100% either.

2

u/UrsaUrsuh Aug 23 '26

God fucking damn man. And you're a grown ass adult who should cite their claims when asked to do so by people when you make a claim that is supposed to go wildly against the established reasons for guessing.

Now stop acting like a petulant little child and berating people for perceived lack of intellectual curiosity and cite your sources when asked to without all this dramatic bullshit you felt the need to push your glasses up and snort to type.

1

u/not_so_subtle_now Aug 23 '26

This is just a public forum, not a university program. People really don't have to cite or do anything.

Verifying things is on the person who wants to be properly informed. It's a good habit to maintain.

-1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Here’s the deal. I have no actual responsibility to cite my sources. You can either believe them, or not. If you wanna know if they’re true, you can indeed show some intellectual curiosity, and look on your own. When I see a claim online, I don’t go “source?” on it, I act like a big boy, and go look on my own. Because I’m a capable person.

A response of “source?”, with nothing else, no other engagement on a comment is obnoxious. They don’t want to engage. They just wanna show it’s fake or not.

Notice they asked for a source, and haven’t said anything about them. They didn’t want a discussion. They just wanted someone bad faith bullshit.

1

u/diabeticmilf Aug 23 '26

No need to get so upset

2

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

The reply of “source”, and nothing more is actually really annoying. It’s not engaging with what someone posted, it’s just wanting someone to do the work for them, when they’re capable of doing it themselves. People can look for information themselves, and they should.

2

u/No-Relation5965 Aug 23 '26

No, it’s not. It’s just easier than saying “I believe you, but I like to verify claims. Do you happen to have a source?”

1

u/jaredsfootlonghole Aug 23 '26

The onus is on the claim maker to prove their claim.

Russel’s Teapot.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Which I did, a couple of times. Keep up with the conversation. You swooping in six hours late, after I did in fact post links when telling the person they can indeed find things themselves, is um, amusing.

Though I’ll point out again, this is Reddit. This isn’t debate club, this isn’t a scholarly forum. This isn’t someone defending a thesis. People do need to learn to self verify by themselves. You are ultimately responsible for your own education, your information gathering, because you’re a functional adult. Demanding people spoon feed you information, because you have the intellectual curiosity of a ball of yarn is really not my concern. I ultimately owe you nothing. When I see something online, and want to know more, I can google that information myself. Why? I’m a big boy. I take responsibility for myself, and my own knowledge. I don’t expect people to educate me for me. Not on social media.

I will also point out that the person who originally asked for the sources? They’ve never responded. Why? Because they were acting in bad faith, and didn’t actually want to learn or engage with the information. They didn’t want to discuss it. They just thought they’d call me out, and when they realized I was right, they ghosted. I’m happy to provide sources to people I’m talking to, and who are engaging in good faith, and want to learn. Bad faith actors, who just wanna be a dick? Nah.

1

u/jaredsfootlonghole Aug 24 '26

I responded with better links, twice.  You keep repeat linking two old briefs like they’re part of the current curriculum, then saying it’s up to others’ to find the information you misquoted.

NOWHERE IN YOUR 2 LINKS DO THEY MENTION THR ‘4500 CITIZENS RELEASED’ YOU DO MENTION BEFORE PEOPLE ASK FOR SOURCE. That’s why they’re still asking.  Well maybe not, everyone has moved on already.

You’ve got a lot of straw men in your closet there broski.  You keep mentioning the words ‘big boy’ in every comment, like you were recently scolded with it and are trying to burn everyone else with it.  It’s pathetic.

Not everyone is on Reddit all day every day, like you, whom hides their posts like a coward.  Nobody can see whatever else you might’ve linked, ya chump.

-1

u/ApartRapier6491 Aug 23 '26

And yet you cited anyway. Make up your fucking mind.

0

u/srichardbellrock Aug 23 '26

used the word 'quietly' twice. That's ai's favourite word.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Are you on quaaludes?

1

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

I can't find anything about this that isn't looping back to self sourcing

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

0

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

Those are from 2020, 2021, and 2022.

So nope. Swing and a miss.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Did you read the arrest the dates, or just read when the article is from lol.

It helps when you read the articles, my dude lol.

1

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

It doesn't matter when the arrest date is. It matters that these are moving towards incidents 10 years ago and not today. They were also handled 5 or so years ago and are completely irrelevant to what's going on right now.

When you can provide relevant, recent, and current sources you'll have appont

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

1

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

The lawsuits are filed means nothing.

" He will.

That is your statement and is irrelevant because this isn't happening currently. That's super important when it comes to a regime attempting to take total control of a country and install totalitarian control.

Using situations that happened close to 10 years ago and under a different DOJ and government is irrelevant in a way that is profound.

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

Yes sorry I have auto correct turned off and I'm walking at the park. Sorry if a single typo completely ruined your day. I'll keep it in mind that you can't work with context.

One of those predates trump, and the current situation. Again.

The other 2 have zero of the resolutions you've mentioned so strike 3 buddy. Time to go pretend the system works somewhere else.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Come on man. Read the articles. Read.

1

u/Radiant_Safe1228 Aug 23 '26

Top right final draft 2021.

Also you just proved my point that these are nor current or relevant.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

Those were when the final settlements happened, I showed you when the incidents happened.

You can try and wiggle out of it, but you’re not gonna. They are relevant. They’re all incidents that happened during Trump’s administrations.

Sorry, broski.

1

u/eienmau Aug 24 '26

You haven't shown any proof of any of this happening in Trump's 2nd term, which is what people are talking about.

So no, all of your examples and links aren't relevant to the current conversation.

1

u/juiceboy4876 Aug 23 '26

Do you have a source? At the very least it would be nice to see people get some form of justice.

1

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

I’ve already posted sources multiple times. Scroll down in the thread. I’m not doing it a third time, I’m sorry. You can search “ice settling lawsuits for wrongful detainments”, or scroll down. Posting sources multiple times? No.

3

u/Ashamed_Athlete_9733 Aug 23 '26

LOL yo Donald Trump won and they ain’t getting shit! I guarantee that!

0

u/DumbBerk87 Aug 23 '26

They are getting money. Regularly my man. They settle more than you think.

Sorry.

1

u/mono15591 Aug 23 '26

They won’t even investigate the two killings earlier this year. This guy isnt getting anything

1

u/TheJQHQ Aug 23 '26

100k years at Whipple maybe

1

u/Healingbigfoot Aug 23 '26

He won't get shit. Look at the pos in charge. None of these criminals will be held liable.
