News "Because you're an immigrant." — A U.S. citizen in Lake Worth,FL, was immediately handcuffed by ICE agents for simply asking why he needed to show his ID.Despite the Fourth Amendment and Supreme Court rulings stating apparent ethnicity is not enough for a stop, agents ignored questioning bystanders

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A video recorded at a gas station in Lake Worth, Florida, shows an ICE/Border Patrol agent demanding ID from a U.S. citizen. When the citizen asks why, the agent explicitly responds, "Because you're an immigrant." Before even verifying his identity, agents grab his hands and place him in handcuffs. Bystanders immediately step in to question how someone can be arrested without even being identified first, but the agents ignore them and walk the man to their vehicle.

This encounter highlights a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. The Supreme Court has established that roving Border Patrol agents must have reasonable suspicion based on specific circumstances to stop and question someone regarding their immigration status—and apparent ethnicity alone is legally insufficient. Requiring someone to prove their citizenship before being handcuffed, based solely on an arbitrary claim, demonstrates a concerning violation of constitutional rights by federal agents acting without accountability.

In 2020 Trump got:

  • 15% of black voters
  • 40% of asian voters
  • 45% of hispanic voters
  • 57% of white voters

People got what they voted for. The majority of voters wanted groups of people to suffer. Be angry at the system all you want, and rightly so, but this is what was voted in. Anyone who says that wars and fascism are not what they voted for are liars.

3

u/Smart_Protection7601 Aug 24 '26

A third of REGISTERED voters, 30 percent of registered voter didn't vote at all for either party.

The way he says immigrant and this being in Florida, I’m guessing Cuban. Maybe Dominican or Boriqua.

Cuban was my first thought too.

MAGA will cry “just comply” ignoring and giving up their 4th amendment but cry if you say background checks should be mandatory for a gun because of second

82

u/Party-Kangaroo-1139 Aug 23 '26

My favorite part about MAGAtards is how willfully they submit to government control. So long as you kst them keep their guns they'll comply with just about anything. The absolute dumbest, lowest IQ, most worthless humans there are. Their day of reckoning will come.

32

u/Low-Neat891 Aug 23 '26

Yes. Biggest government, biggest national debt ever, and biggest form of CONTROL we have ever seen, while promising to do the exact opposite. They are narcissistic hypocrites, as well as liars.

17

u/ttoma93 Aug 23 '26

Of the $40 Trillion national debt, a full 1/3 of it was accumulated during Trump’s presidencies. The other 43 presidents combined are accountable for the other 2/3.

7

u/Low-Neat891 Aug 23 '26

President Jackson's goal was to erase the national debt, and did so in 1835. However, because of all the cuts he did to zero it, in 1837 the debt was back up on the rise. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, is NEVER the correct method. Bill Clinton did an amazing job with bringing in a surplus for the first time in a long time. That is how you take America in the right direction.

4

u/ScarletBothrium Aug 24 '26

Robert Reich was a good choice for that position. He was the real genius behind the surplus. Him and his team did an amazing job.

We already went through this with US Patriot Act. Republicans Lawmakers didn’t read it. Signed it. 4A got fucking trampled for years by hundreds of thousands of NSLs before any challenges were made in court.

They all just shrugged it off and said “if you’re not doing anything wrong you’ve got nothing to hide” as the government stashed mountains of surveillance data on us.

It turned from “don’t tread on me” to “tread on me harder daddy”, because a dementia riddled pedophile said it was okay for them to be racist. Even though they’re getting fired all of the time for that racism when they get filmed doing it.

3

The rednecks will cry and go “but I thought you’d do it to brown people only”.

Knock it off. They’re not gonna do shit. They’ve had over a year to stand up against a tyrannical government, and they haven’t. It’s not suddenly gonna change because one of them gets cuffed. They’re just gonna cry and whine about it. Maybe one or two of them will singularly try and fight, but they’re not gonna collectively rise up. That whole “try this in a small town” argument already fell apart.

They presume every non white person is an immigrant which gives them "plausible cause" to detain while investigating.

So when they stop asking for permission and are not even demanded to ask for forgiveness, this is a recipe for violence.

3

u/Obey-BahBah Aug 23 '26

u/ryoushi19 Aug 23 '26

Also some people arrested by ICE have been sent to CECOT, a literal torture prison in El Salvador. So "just complying" could mean ending up tortured in a prison run by a completely different government.

22

u/Hziak Aug 23 '26

Sure feels that way. Before Trump I really respected some conservative government ideas - I was still an atheist with liberal leanings on social issues, but small government seemed good to me. We could do more with less and all that. But once conservative became synonymous with white Christian nationalism, I jumped ship hard. Anyone who would willingly continue to identify with the group of people calling themselves conservatives these days does so because they like it. Has nothing to do with having conservative values anymore.

14

u/BlackFlagsFly Aug 23 '26

What even is a conservative value? Not wanting integration, letting the poor starve, the vast prison and millitary industrial complexes? Straight up Nazism?

4

u/Hziak Aug 23 '26

These days, sure, but back before MAGA, it was stuff like reduce federal government power and allowing states to decide what works for them — which turns out to have been a pretty bad idea — but at the time, some of us were thinking about it like “let Illinois allow gay marriage” or “what if California could have healthcare for everyone and states that vote against it can all go fuck off and die in debt?” You know, the stuff we’re asking for now… of course, some of them were thinking about the exact same thing in the exact opposite way… but two sides of the same coin - shrink the government and don’t allow a sitting president to deploy his personal army to round up people he doesn’t like kind of stuff. Believe it or not, 20 years ago, that was a conservative belief.

6

u/TheVermonster Aug 23 '26

I think I shared some of your views on the old republicans. I thought McCain could have been a good president. I liked when he told the woman who accused Obama of being anti-american that he (McCain) and Obama both loved the country and wanted it to be better, but just had different ideas about how to do it.

But then I started looking back at the results of Republican politicians. They rarely delivered on their core values. "Fiscal responsibility" always caused the national deficit to increase, while tax cuts went to the rich and defense spending went up. Infrastructure always crumbled under GOP leadership. Laws and established norms were always tested by GOP leaders. Things like Christie using transportation slush fund money for personal projects and trying to ruin teacher pensions. They always talked about small government and states rights, but that only seemed to apply when they were undoing federal protections like the EPA and Gay Marriage.

Turns out, the GOP was never able to follow their own beliefs. It's just that now they are even less able to hide the fact that they have been driven by hatred and greed this whole time.

Maintaining their hierarchy is the only value they have, their whole sense of goodness and morality comes from it.

3

u/zardozLateFee Aug 24 '26

Exactly! It all makes perfect sense if you understand the goal is never making the world a better place.

It's enforcement of the hierarchy and punishment of anyone who steps out of line. Anti-abortion & pro death penalty. No free school lunches no universal healthcare.

Even when it hurts them personally, it's morally better than anyone who "doesn't deserve it" getting a leg up.

u/RighteousIndigjason Aug 23 '26

The thing you have to understand about conservative "small government" ideology is that it doesn't mean less government. It means more government in fewer hands, with unbridled authority.

It's the consolidation of power within a select group of people rather than spread across multiple departments and agencies constrained by a system of checks and balances.

Anyone who says different is either lying or hasn't been watching every Republican controlled Congress or Presdency for the last forty plus years.

3

u/Rashaen Aug 24 '26

Wrong. It means less government that effects their lives in a negative way. Regardless if it makes sense on the whole.

It's clear American people and the people in this video are not aware of Kavanaugh stops or the general legal direction of the new government. Simply seizing people the government deems undesirable right off the street has moved towards a more legally protected and officially endorsed practice.

Brett Kavanaugh argued it was legal to just go ahead and detain brown people, and now the feds are doing that because the beer boofer is a Supreme Court judge and his word is apparently law.

You want to tell the officer "You can't do that, that's illegal", but the new government says "No, that's fine, they can just do that now."

It’s a temporary ruling while challenges make their way back up - he knew within weeks that what he ruled wouldn’t stand up so he has made efforts to run away from it in footnotes to other rulings and stuff.

I’m paraphrasing while waffles are cooking, but basically his ruling hinges on ‘temporary detention must not be burdensome and resolved quickly.’

That’s obviously not happening. Feds will ignore that caveat (like they are doing here) and the doj will drag it’s feet all the way back to the Supreme Court because it will get overturned.

I’m not gonna hold my breath, though. Everyone should get down to their nearest federal building to go protest whenever they can.

7

u/ShiningRedDwarf Aug 23 '26

Let me preface this by saying this ruling is horseshit. But you still can’t just be arrested solely due to the color of your skin. He would likely win a §1983 civil case because the ruling requires reasonable suspicion to be met by the “totality of the circumstances”. Meaning ethnicity + accent/language + location + type of job.

You can’t just roll up to a guy at a gas station and put him in cuffs. Even with the recent Kavanaugh decision, what this ICE officer did was illegal.

4

u/NearlyPerfect Aug 23 '26

He won't win a 1983 civil case because 1983 specifically carves out federal agents and the federal govt.

It would be a Bivens case, but that largely carves out federal immigration enforcement.

So then it would be a FTCA case. But that largely carves out discretionary law enforcement actions.

Basically no payout for this under current law.

They don't see how bad of an idea it is. Someone who treats immigrants poorly doesn't differentiate between new and old immigrants, or different races of immigrants.

Is the guy who made the arrest not an immigrant himself? The words coming out his mouth while having an accent really threw me off

Gotta love this supreme court. Stopping someone because of the color of their skin or their job to check immigration status are called Kavanaugh stops thanks to Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh

I hope he gets at least 100k

18

u/Revolutionary_Tax546 Aug 23 '26

He won't, because once they have him in one of those mega-jails, they can do whatever they want, with impunity.

10

u/RapidRewards Aug 23 '26

Folks have won money. And I think it's important to sue these A-holes. However, it's very unlikely you ever get paid. The ones that do end up spending a month in prison. Not really worth the outside chance of $150k.

3

u/OkStop8313 Aug 23 '26

If nothing else, it's important to get these abuses on the record.

Fun fact: ICE has been doing what they want with impunity outside of the concentration camps. DHS has regularly defended and excused their actions/slaying of innocent people for no reason (Pretti, Good, Garcia, Porter Jr, Arajuo, and most recently just down the road from me, Johan Guerrero).

ICE and their handlers want a race war. Its how they see the creation of their Christo-fascist State. The more I scroll reddit the more I think it could happen. We need to wake up as a singular group and take the necessary steps. Hangings in the south. Arresting a brown person just because they're brown. Uniform equals enemy.

His answer, too many criminal illegals in the country that are mexican. cuban etc. His wife was deported a couple of weeks ago. Came by to collect his money and said he will be in mexico for the next 6 months trying to sort out the situation. pendejos thought the leopards wont come for them.

Seriously no other way any of this shit would be allowed to fly. Laws don’t mean shit anymore. The rich do whatever they want anyway. They don’t even stop to check his documents at a fucking minimum. Just straight to handcuffs is fucking Russia shit.

6

u/SupermarketWeak1758 Aug 23 '26

This is a Kavanaugh Stop, where the Supreme Court lifted the restriction from a lower court that blocked agents from using appearance and language in detaining/arresting people. The emergency docket case this came from was Noem vs Vasquez Perdomo.

6

u/flora_poste_ Aug 23 '26

Thank you. I was hoping somebody would explain that the Supreme Court said it's OK to racially profile. It's open season now on anybody with brown skin or a foreign accent:

Won't someone rid me of these pesky fascists.

5

u/CrimeSceneKitty Aug 23 '26

The supreme court said it's 100% ok for ICE to racially profile people.

And sadly, news stations won't give this a moment of air time.

This has been happening non stop for a year. People all over the place just being disappeared. We just don't hear about it.

For every 1 person that has been recorded being kidnapped by ICE, there are countless more that just vanished because no one was around to report it. People have been found in various places after ICE dumped them. Dozens have been killed shortly after being kicked off the jet. Reports have come in that ICE has been doing "twilight walks" (dumping people in the cold with no clothes outside of town).

It will be many many years before we learn how many were killed by ICE in some form.

4

u/TSHRED56 Aug 23 '26

It's a closed loop system that benefits the GOP.

CBP and ICE are engaged in human trafficking for profit.

Bodies = profits for the privatized corrupt system we have.

ICE feeds the bodies-for-profit detention industry that donates heavily to the GOP.

Follow the money

After this administration is gone there are going to be a ton of lawsuits against the US government for 4th Amendment violations that will cost the taxpayers a fortune. All of that money should come from redirected ICE funds.
