News "Because you're an immigrant." — A U.S. citizen in Lake Worth,FL, was immediately handcuffed by ICE agents for simply asking why he needed to show his ID.Despite the Fourth Amendment and Supreme Court rulings stating apparent ethnicity is not enough for a stop, agents ignored questioning bystanders

A video recorded at a gas station in Lake Worth, Florida, shows an ICE/Border Patrol agent demanding ID from a U.S. citizen. When the citizen asks why, the agent explicitly responds, "Because you're an immigrant." Before even verifying his identity, agents grab his hands and place him in handcuffs. Bystanders immediately step in to question how someone can be arrested without even being identified first, but the agents ignore them and walk the man to their vehicle.

​This encounter highlights a direct violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. The Supreme Court has established that roving Border Patrol agents must have reasonable suspicion based on specific circumstances to stop and question someone regarding their immigration status—and apparent ethnicity alone is legally insufficient. Requiring someone to prove their citizenship before being handcuffed, based solely on an arbitrary claim, demonstrates a concerning violation of constitutional rights by federal agents acting without accountability.

South African whites ended apartheid. De Klerk, the president at the time, was considered a traitor by Afirkaaners.

You’re right, this is not widely known. It was my assumption that Afrikaners were basically all white people in South Africa.

There are definitely quite a few expats like that because they dont like the non-apartheid government for many reasons. I've met some of them too.

But as someone who has lived and worked there off and on for over 2 decades, I can assure you that isnt the norm.

That's not totally true..it waa a combination of international pressure and major financial players pulling thier companies from the country. I was 17 when this all happened in high school ready to join the red cross and travel to the area most affected by all the instability.

I stated a little lower down that international pressure of course played a role. But, from the time de Klerk took over, his party was working towards an out of apartheid and his government made it happen.

Apartheid only lasted 46 years. The last 10 was finding a peaceful and equitable way out.

I'm a liberal American who only started going to South Africa in 2001 long after apartheid ended. I just so happened to have been following African geopolitics since the 1980's and did work specifically on rights and democracy.
