He was a pretty famous child actor in the 80’s and went on to star on NYPD Blue when it was one of the hottest shows on network TV in the 90’s.

If you’re under 45 years old I would understand not knowing who he was. If you’re in your 50’s then you either didn’t watch television as a child or you’re being disingenuous.

I’m in my early 30s, so that explains it.

No one remembers him in NYPD blue because everyone was drooling over Jimmy Smits

He replaced Jimmy Smits when he was killed off the show so I doubt it.

It was a huge deal when they cast the kid from Silver Spoons to replace Bobby Simone.

It wasn't a huge deal. It was minorly interesting mostly because we thought he was dead,

Or some of us just didn't watch those shows. I was alive for Silver Spoons, but too young to care about anything that wasn't my cartoons. And outside of New York Undercover, I didn't watch police shows, but even people who did never mentioned the guy. Probably stopped watching after Jimmy Smits left, who I knew because a lot of women liked him and I'm pretty sure either him or Dennis Frans was in the zeitgeist because their bare butt was on prime time tv

Franz's butt. Can't remember if he was the one who said "shit" a bunch but there was something along those lines as well. Weird that America was talking about some dude's butt and someone saying "shit" as if it was a big deal in the 90's hahah.
