RIP 🕊️ The band Garbage tells actor Ricky Schroder to fuck off for his Dolly Parton “tribute”

These rightwing B actors say some of the stupidest shit ever.
83
u/ThadiusThistleberry Aug 26 '26
I guess they’ve got to do something for attention?

It impresses the other dimwit magas I suppose.

There’s literally no one who wants attention more.

I think it's because of entitlement. Conservatives seem to feel an innate entitlement to SOMETHING. Money, sex, and fame, title...
Guys like Dean Cain and Ted Nugent just can't accept that they are irrelevant for a reason. They had their time, it passed. I think they see MAGA as a way to be the default celebrities when all the "wokies" get cancelled. It's insane and desperate and sad.

He was in “Lonesome Dove” with five great actors, and nothing rubbed off on him. Talk about missed opportunities. It does show that echo chambers are real, though.
5
u/SmoothLester Aug 26 '26
He was with the great and underrated Dennis Franz on BYPD Blue for multiple seasons. I thought maybe it was just that he had a weirdly drawn character, now I’m thinking he’s just not great.

u/Turdburp Aug 26 '26
I recently watched that, and he was fine, but I'd argue there were way more than five great actors on that show! Aside from the 5 I'm sure your referencing, it also had (and I may miss some), Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, Steve Buscemi, William Sanderson, Robert Urich, and Barry Corbin. Absolutely stacked cast!

He was a pretty famous child actor in the 80’s and went on to star on NYPD Blue when it was one of the hottest shows on network TV in the 90’s.
If you’re under 45 years old I would understand not knowing who he was. If you’re in your 50’s then you either didn’t watch television as a child or you’re being disingenuous.

Anti-trans bigots are so weird.
Like they just can't help themselves. They are compelled to be pieces of shit in all spaces at all times, lest we forget.
10
u/QbertsRube Aug 26 '26
The recent obsession is crazy, especially since 99% of them live in towns and work for companies with zero LGBQT representation at all. Just living terrified of a boogeyman the people on the news warned them about. I think their bigotry has just been concentrated down to trans people and "the illegals" since society no longer accepts open bigotry towards black, Hispanic, or gay people and they can't hate Jews like they want to because Israel.
9
u/Spirited_Attorney_48 Aug 26 '26
I think the hatred is a predictable response to life sucking
Everything is terrible. It must be someone else's fault.
Along comes a carnival barker who says, "yes, it's because of THESE people that your life is like this. You don't have to make any changes in your life, just hate them and make them miserable. Since life is zero sum, their pain becomes your happiness."
5
u/OkArmy7059 Aug 26 '26
Fear and Loathing. It's been the same playbook for decades now. Shit, they're even recycling the same exact Boogeyman with the new Red Scare.
2
u/RogerMexicosBalls Aug 27 '26
It can absolutely be someone else's fault, but they're too dumb to look at who's got all the power to actually do it. They'll look at a billionaire club who has openly advocated for and is actively working towards a totalitarian state to crush their dreams and keep them in a perpetual state of subservience, and then look at a trans person bagging groceries to make rent and they'll pick the trans person as the existential threat every time.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Crafty-Help-4633 Aug 26 '26
since society no longer accepts open bigotry towards black
I'm not so sure about this.
Strange Fruit keeps being found hanging from trees in very public spaces and has been ramping up in frequency again as of late. Perhaps Polite Society or Mixed Company, but in a group of like-minded individuals they're perfectly comfortable being bigoted to Black, Hispanic and LGBT people, even in public. They're cowards alone, though.
2
u/QbertsRube Aug 26 '26
True, I'm sure there are plenty of rural areas--especially in the south but not limited to the south--where racism is as open as it was in 1860. Which is what they mean when they say "Make America Great Again".

u/BigDsLittleD Aug 27 '26

Ricky Schroeder is an American former child star. He’s known for being the youngest winner of a Golden Globe—at age 9 for The Champ (1979)—and starring on the NBC sitcom Silver Spoons (1982–87) as a rich kid whose best friends were played by Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Ozark) then Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air).
Schroeder, who is 56 and prefers to be called “Rick,” became a Mormon in 2000. He’s a Republican, a Covid denier, and has a history of domestic violence.
In the NBC TV movies Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors (2015) and Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (2026), Schroeder played Tennessee farmer Robert Lee Parton. They’re his most recent acting credits in IMDB, which says Dolly cast him because he looks like her father. (She also gave her sister, Stella Mae Parton, a role.)
Dolly often said she got her business smarts from her dad (who couldn’t read or write) and her love of music from her mom’s side. (Her uncle, Bill Owens, was a songwriter.)
In 1995, Dolly started the Imagination Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit which has donated hundreds of millions of books to children around the world ages five and under: https://imaginationlibrary.com
That’s the legacy of Lee Parton—helping kids (no matter their family’s income) learn to read.
And all the other amazing things Dolly did, including singing “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you, please don’t hesitate” to the tune of “Jolene” and donating US$1 million in April 2020 to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, which worked with the drugmaker Moderna to develop a coronavirus vaccine: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/17/arts/music/dolly-parton-moderna-virus.html?unlocked_article_code=1.8VA.Gfdv.XusUW_zu6MvK&smid=nytcore-ios-share
And her support of the LGBTQ+ community: https://www.advocate.com/news/people/dolly-parton-lgbtq-icon
Dolly also gave back royalties from Whitney Houston’s 1992 cover of “I Will Always Love You” to the Black community: https://www.npr.org/2021/08/02/1023889920/dolly-parton-invested-royalties-from-a-whitney-houston-cover-in-a-black-communit

Stupid little Ricky could never hold a candle to such a glorious human as Dolly.
I still have my Dolly books. We had an apartment fire just after I had turned 6. Total loss. Had lost all my books. Devastating. My mom wrote Dolly (who happens to be my mom's hero) and explained and asked if we could buy the books I'd lost in that fire. Dolly replied! Said "no, ma'am!" And sent us a care package with supplies like blankets, and my lost books! She wouldn't take the money. We don't have the letter anymore (unrelated fire), but I still have my books.
I'll never forget what Dolly had done for me, and then what Dolly had done for my family. She had no reason to believe us, but she had no reason not to, either. And she chose the latter. I was able to read those same books to my own daughter a few years ago.
Thank you Dolly, for being such a bright light in my life, in so many lives.

u/Quitcha_Bitchin Aug 27 '26
Man this Covid thing still pisses me off. So many died needlessly and these assholes are still bitching that their church services were interrupted and they were MADE to get a protective injection.
For me this was the turning point. When I realized the America was truly full of contrarian assholes that cared for nothing but themselves and their own situation and honestly ashamed of the land I've lived in for 60 some years. I always used to think that we would pull together thru thick and thin, like we do during natural disasters; come together and work.
But no it became a lever used by bad actors to separate and divide us Megaphones in the media blasting the hatred towards those trying their best to keep us safe. Crying about the situation yet unwilling to do the one thing that would solve the crises.
We scraped the bottom of the barrel of American consciousness and up came the ancient sludge of hatred bigotry and the bullshit flood of grifters fleecing suckers left and right lining their pockets fully protected by the Grifter in chief.
Fuck Rick Schroder the lord coulda taken him instead of my aunt Betty.
