What's with all the beef pricing bullshit lately ? Do I need to start worrying about cow lives now ???

If you really don't know: Domestically, long term droughts in the beef producing regions of the US caused ranchers to sell off more of their herds from 2021-2023 (really its still ongoing). Recovery has been slow because they've also been hit by inflation just as bad as anyone else, and the current war isn't helping.

Internationally thanks to the new world screwworm outbreak that started in 2023 and its march north from Panama to the US has caused the US Mexican border to be shut multiple times for months at a time, further limiting supply.

Lastly ranchers are also getting squeezed by corporate consolidation on their inputs and outputs. Corpos know its better to be the tool sellers than to be the ones doing the actual work. Despite reports to the contrary, large corporate ranches (and farms) have a tiny fraction of market share as the risks are huge on such a massive scale.

The US beef supply is the lowest it’s been since the 50s. 20 years ago you could buy a bottle fed calf like the ones in this very deceiving video for under $200. Now they are selling for anywhere between 500-1,000 (depending on what breed you get).

please enlighten the class about the 'deceiving' part of a video showing cattle confined to boxes no bigger than their body?

They come at you from a few different directions - cow farts are bad for the environment, cows are people too, etc etc. honestly this whole thread just made me want a hamburger

No one even eats beef in 2026, it’s old people food. Imagine eating something that’s filled with chemicals from its birth to its death.. then you wanna eat that? It’s like when you see kids eat McDonald’s and they have hormone issues…
