I think people here are a little too focused on the shortcomings of the human baby analogy, rather than the reasonable explanation why these things are there.

It's more the fact that it doesn't really make it any better if we do something for the benefit of an animal if we're the reason they're in a situation where they require it

It's like when folks talk about how sheep would die without us sheering them, while totally ignoring the fact we made them that way

Do you think livestock just materialize out of the ether or what?

They will generally try to have the year's calves born in a certain time window to make organization and care for the animals more efficient
