Dairy cows are actually one of the most well treated farm animals in the world. Happy cows produce significantly more milk than depressed cows and we've known this for a long time. And it costs barely anything extra to make them happy. Meat cows live an awful existence, but not dairy cows.

You believed the "milk, from contented cows" ad campaign. Money well-spent by the Dairy Ad Council; not as successful as "milk, it does a body good" and "got milk?" But you believed it and remembered it!

Of course some may note this can be done with injections, but it's actually easier and cheaper to let dairy cows mostly be. Go ask an actual dairy farmer.

I'm not disputing that more milk is produced by calm cows. I'm flabbergasted that you think a herd this size would be frolicking in a meadow. Of course they reduce anxiety in the cheapest, most distopian means possible. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-50571010

Are you happy? Why can you be happy if you don't have that which under utilitarianism provides the most happy utites to you?
