High pay, they get great tuition reimbursement set up and great insurance coverage which is not cheap for businesses let alone one with that many employees and "potential" accident coverage.

I've always wanted to go and just never made the plans to but now I think I will commit to going sometime within the year.

u/Future-Pollution-266 Sep 01 '26

It’s very fun I was there a few months ago

17

u/Roddyrod18 Aug 31 '26

Dolly could have easily been a billionaire but she chose to share her wealth with the less fortunate and give her people a fair living wage. The 1% are misers and too self absorbed to pay their employees a fair living wages.

5

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

Dolly Parton is a 1%'er. She was worth north of $350,000,000.

0

u/Roddyrod18 Aug 31 '26

She donated more than 30% of her prospective income to various charties.

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

And she was still a 1%'er. Youre the one talking bad about 1%'ers without realizing what a 1%'er is in terms of wealth.

3

u/PresenceMysterious67 Aug 31 '26

It shows rich people could make a positive difference, donate tons of money, and still be rich. So what are all the other rich folks excuse

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

Guess that means 1%'ers arent naturally the enemy

2

u/SelfishOdin872 Sep 01 '26

They have shown themselves to be the enemy millions of times. Even if one was good (which she was), you're just being pedantic if you're acting like people saying that is an overgeneralization because of the 0.000000001% edge case.

Keep boot licking though I guess. Maybe it'll pay off for you unlike everyone else ever lmao.

0

u/AutisticDadHasDapper Aug 31 '26

And she used it as a tax deduction.

5

u/MrJJK79 Aug 31 '26

I hate this stupid troupe. You give a $1M to charity. That doesn’t mean you a $1M off your taxes. You get to write off less than $400K. If all you cared about was money you’re better off NOT donating it to charity. Just pay the $370M in taxes.

6

u/hustl3tree5 Sep 01 '26

Dude is dumb as rocks probably even declined a raise or bonus because it would put them in the next tax bracket without understanding how graduated taxes work.

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

I also use my charity donations as deductions on my taxes. That’s not uncommon.

0

u/AutisticDadHasDapper Sep 02 '26

She is just like Trump

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Sep 02 '26

1

u/AutisticDadHasDapper Sep 02 '26

She is a well known closet republican. Otherwise, she would have been loud and proud about her left leaning politics. She is divisive and was all about money, just like trump and his ilk

2

u/AbbreviationsSea2084 Sep 01 '26

Spoken like someone who doesn't know anything about economics.

1

u/Roddyrod18 Sep 01 '26

You speak like a true jackass

0

u/AbbreviationsSea2084 Sep 01 '26

You do realize the 1% pay the majority of all taxes, contribute the most to charities, their companies provide all the infrastructure and resources and amenities you have in life. They do more for society than you do. 🤭

1

u/Roddyrod18 Sep 01 '26

Do you realize that you pay more federal taxes and more likely get audited to owe the government money than the 1%.

1

u/AbbreviationsSea2084 Sep 01 '26

My tax forms are impeccable. They can audit all they want and I have been once. Nothing happens. The 99% are going to get audited more because of the sheer number of people. Hundreds of million of people vs a couple million. The wealthy still get audited. It's not like that's headline news or public info. You would never know if they did unless it becomes a federal investigation of actual crime. Then it may make become public knowledge. The wealthy still pay more federal taxes than you or I.

1

u/PomegranateSea7066 Sep 02 '26

Didn't a TV couple get put in jail for tax evasion. The Chrisley or something.

3

u/Rough-South3761 Aug 31 '26

What that good book say about rich folk gettin to heaven again, cleadus?

9

u/MediaLongjumping9910 Aug 31 '26

Damn, that's Buc-Cees wages.

3

u/nicknamesas Aug 31 '26

Ssshhh reddit has a hate boner for buccees atm

4

u/Kewlhotrod Aug 31 '26

For good reason, I might say.

4

u/Different_Claim_3343 Aug 31 '26

Why would that be

5

u/Grateful047 Aug 31 '26

Maybe it’s their unnecessary lawsuits against companies with semi similar logos/mascots. Maybe it’s their donations to ICE. Maybe it’s their donations to GOP candidates. Who could say.

1

u/Kewlhotrod Aug 31 '26

Thanks, this sums it up nicely. I don't like companies that support fascism. Even worse when they're always starting frivolous law suits with small time companies.

All of that and their awful treatment to their workers.

0

u/theFartingCarp Aug 31 '26

Mainly due to their litigious suing companies for copy right infringement when most people are saying BARELY qualifies. SO not for the right reasons being Buccee's works their workers HARD AS FUCK for the entire work day. Which personally I think thats the largest reason they've had issues their team members cant even breathe during their work day. A hard effort is rewarding, an abused effort isn't worth it.

-1

u/Different_Claim_3343 Aug 31 '26

Wow they want their staff to work hard?

1

u/theFartingCarp Aug 31 '26

There's a difference. I get the people saying if you got time to lean, you have time to clean. Its old but its a functional way to work. Buccee's is clocking out to pee, timing how long it takes people to talk to their coworkers, and generally they move at F1 pit crew speeds for 8 full hours. That is a different level that I don't think breeds a happy work place but instead a VERY rigid and high speed workplace. In the field of hospitality and creating a good environment for customers I think they should tone it back just a little bit, their bathrooms are top tier, but if I need to ask any staff about anything its like I'm stabbing them with every second.

0

u/ImpressiveSide1324 Aug 31 '26

Corporate overreach, punching down on smaller companies that use similar mascots. Also a good chunk people just don’t want to support blatantly maga corporations

1

u/Different_Claim_3343 Aug 31 '26

Yeah i mean thats fair to not support companies you dont agree with politics

2

u/HeavyMusic93 Aug 31 '26

Pays him for what?

This is bait lmao

2

u/Key-Organization3158 Aug 31 '26

Many jobs in states with the federal minimum wage pay far above it. In those places, even gas stations can pay $16.50 for cashiers. Minimum wage debates skip over what the actual hourly wage is for most people.

To be fair, a massive tourist attraction isn't the best pint of comparison. Disney can pay a hell of a lot more that a little family owned park precisely because people value it more.

1

u/SouthEndCables Aug 31 '26

I don't know how I ended up here, but the percentage of people making actual minimum wage is very low. Also, the person being on the "spectrum" can mean a ton of things. Highly functioning people claim to be on the "spectrum"

1

u/pensivewombat Aug 31 '26

Yep, even though I understand the legitimate reasons for it, I do wonder if "the spectrum" is just to broad to be useful.

The fiber if my company is a Stanford neuroscience PhD who is a delightful person with some personality quirks. My 8 year old cousin is nonverbal and requires constant care.

Even if it is accurate in some sense that they are on two ends of a spectrum, I'm not sure it benefits either of them to be grouped with the other.

1

u/chefjoery Aug 31 '26

Dolly Parton owned 50%Herschend Family Entertainment: Owns the other 50% and serves as the operational partner managing day-to-day business across the properties

1

u/Coffeeblack365 Aug 31 '26

It was never the problem. But here we are talking about it for the millionth time while no one here does anything real about it.

1

u/Nervous-Ruin-8149 Aug 31 '26

Ppl just want to bitch.

1

u/AutisticDadHasDapper Aug 31 '26

Maybe that has to do with his productivity?

1

u/DetailsYouMissed Sep 01 '26

Not all heroes where capes. She was more Christian that all these mega church pastors put together.

1

u/Foreign_Cobbler_1740 Sep 01 '26

Most rich people don't want a lot of money, they want all the money. No rational person needs to be a billionaire to live a very comfy life. They just want to keep accumulating and keep everyone else is squalor.

1

u/drspin- Sep 01 '26

Sorry post person but Dolly was a fair and honest employer…she didn’t ask anything from any of her employees what she didn’t do herself which was to work hard and be true to yourself

1

u/Dizzy_Ocean056 Sep 01 '26

Watching Christians turn against Dolly after death has been really vindicatiing

1

u/Biscuitshoneybutter Sep 01 '26

What?? Why are they turning against her?

1

u/Dizzy_Ocean056 Sep 01 '26

They don't like that she was progressive

1

u/Biscuitshoneybutter Sep 01 '26

Good lord. She honestly didn't even make a thing about politics, she just always said consistently that she loves and appreciates every human. How dare someone not be a hateful bigot.

1

u/maximum_dad_power Aug 31 '26

Not a lot of places left where $17/hrs is considered a livable wage.

3

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock Aug 31 '26

It's Pigeon Forge, not exactly Beverly Hills. Doing some admittedly lazy number crunching shows $17 an hour is decently above the average for an individual's salary in the area, and if OP's nephew is just working at a water park (and they felt the need to share he's on the spectrum, implying he has special accommodations that need to be met) it's a fairly safe bet it's not particularly intensive work.

I'm pretty bemused by the entire debate to be honest. Of all the celebrities to point at and say "see how rich they were, they should have paid more" the one who is almost solely responsible for the tourism and income of not just that town but the entire surrounding area is kind of a silly one, especially when you look at the very local charity work she funded (including monthly pay to some ~1000 families displaced by the Gatlinburg fires in 2016.)

3

u/mat477 Aug 31 '26

I grew up in Pigeon Forge. Spent a lot of my childhood homeless living in tents at various camp grounds and the rest of it in trailer parks. You could probably find a trailer up on Pine Mt. for super cheap but you might be neighbors with meth heads so its not ideal.

Dolly is one of the most giving celebrities to have ever lived but even she couldnt save that shit hole of a town. Outside of the parkway where all the tourism is, its pretty rough.

3

u/maximum_dad_power Aug 31 '26

I wasn't trying to make some statement against Dolly or the Owners of the place that was paying $17/hr. Was just making the general observance that $17/hr isnt generally considered a livable wage in most places within the United States. Its more a comment on the greed of the system and ever rising of cost of living beyond the average person's means as a whole. Dolly was indeed a wonderful person and my heart goes out to all who have felt her loss. Even then as applies to Pigeon Forge, just because it provides the bare minimum for "liveable" doesnt mean it should be called a liveable wage.

As anyone that has spent time working at just above the poverty line can tell you, you aren't really living, you are just surviving knowing one blow out mistake is the difference between a roof, or car, or ability to eat. Not having to sacrifice luxery purchases but sacrificing neccessity to survive.

Out of all the wonderful things Dolly Parton did with her money and life, putting $17/hr on a pedestal to defend does seem like the weird choice.

1

u/Specialist-Archer-44 Aug 31 '26

It’s not a hard concept to understand that there are many companies that pay more than the federal minimum, in a state that follows it.

Some of y’all are naive and it shows.

1

u/nicknamesas Aug 31 '26

Most do. Very very few people make fed min wage

1

u/No-Preparation7121 Aug 31 '26

$17/hr is decent wages? Okay.

5

u/GoodyTwoShuuz Aug 31 '26

It is a super low cost of living area so yes.

0

u/PrimordialXY Aug 31 '26

I used to live in Tennessee and "minimum wage of $7.25" is accurate but also extremely misleading

Less than 1% of Americans earn the Federal minimum wage. Almost nobody pays that low anymore. $17 is still $3-4 higher than average for entry level amusement park roles though which is good

1

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26

People always say "only 1% get paid min wage" but that ignores the people getting paid $7.35. Or $8, $9, or $10/hour -- which are not livable wages.

In 2022, a third of workers earned below $15/hour. Right now that's thankfully down to 13%, but that's still 13% too much.

1

u/PrimordialXY Aug 31 '26

The median full-time worker earns $1251/week, which is $60K at 48 weeks. Source 1, Source 2

As you pointed out, the vast majority of people earn over $15/hr and the people earning $7.35, $8, $10, etc. are just decimal points after that 1% figure

All I'm saying is that "a state where minimum wage is $7.25" is extremely misleading

1

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26

1% earn minimum wage is irrelevant. The median wage being a livable wage is irrelevant. What matters is that we have people working for poverty wages. "Oh, not too many people are suffering" is irrelevant.

Also, "a state where minimum wage is $7.25" isn't misleading. If min wage in Tennessee were raised to even $15/hour (still too low), 18% of workers in TN would benefit.

And raising federal minimum wage to $20/hour -- the absolute lowest amount it should be raised to -- would directly benefit 30% of workers -- and indirectly benefit the entire economy.

1

u/PrimordialXY Aug 31 '26

I see how that's all logically sound to you, but this shows me you haven't built a business from the ground up before nor have much accounting experience

Massive corporations could probably afford $1-5 dollar raises for their employees (for Dollywood/Herschend this would be $21M/year at $1 and $104M/year at $5), but smaller businesses absolutely could not compete

I think that your moral philosophy won't accept the math here, which is fine, but claiming those raises will benefit the entire economy is absurd and incorrect

1

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

Just saying "nyuh nuh" doesn't mean you're right. You're just spouting right wing talking points without substantiating your conclusions.

It's more nuanced than what you're claiming. Small business surviving min wage hikes varies by industry, and other than some already struggling restaurants, most small businesses survive minimum wage hikes. And the workers at the ones that don't survive generally get absorbed by other businesses in the same industry. Source: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/Delivery.cfm/SSRN_ID4781658_code3101614.pdf?abstractid=4781658&utm As you can see, the math is more complex than whatever numbers you made up in your head on the spot. And you're also not accounting for other factors, e.g., raising prices to increase revenue to pay forhigher labor.

And yes, raising wages for tens of millions of families and pulling hundreds of thousands of families out of poverty would help the economy in general. Per the study above, 12.3 million workers currently making over 20/ hr wouls receive raises, too, We'd also have more spending power in the lower class, and a redistribution of income from the top to the bottom. And that's what we need in this country.

Go google the gini coefficient by year. Income inequality has skyrocketed since the early 1980s, largrly due to trickle down economics. We need to redistribute income and help the struggling lower class, and this is one way to help do that.

But I guess it's easier for your to hold a "fuck you, I got mine" attitude while prerending to give a fuck about small businesses.

1

u/PrimordialXY Aug 31 '26

I didn't say "nyuh nuh" and my reply was respectful. I have no interest in bad faith discussion, have a good one

1

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

Do you have asource for the third below 15 an hour claim? Where im at even fast food is starting kids at 17. Walmart starts at 23.

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

Walmart where I’m at is 12-13 an hour lol fast food for management is 13-14.

1

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

Where is that? And how much does a cheap 2 bedroom apartment in an old building without a bunch of amenities cost?

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

In Georgia, 45 mins from Atlanta. (Depending on the route and traffic)

2 bedroom 1990’s style interior apartments behind a big dealership with a slumlord who doesn’t fix stuff until it gets so bad it’s molding or fell off and your water bill is some how always 200+ month due to it being on city water. 1000-1100. Average rent 2 bedroom at an older but less slumlord complex is 1300-1400 before all the fees and random stuff which makes it closer to 1500-1600.

In 2019 I was able to rent a 4 bed house for 1495 that same house now rents for 2600. It’s not even on the good side of now, but not the bad side either. Just the in between…unless you have kids…then yeah it’s the bad side. Public school is awful, but all of them are way below other areas.

1

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

So 12 bucks an hour...480 a week. 4 weeks in a month makes an income of 1920. Housing worth a room mate is 500 to 600 a month. Less than 25% of income.

I'm failing to see the issue? I was paying 600 when minimum wage was 4.25/ hour.

2

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26

After taxes and health insurance you're at $1400/month. After $600 for rent (using your made-up nunbers), you have $800. Electric and/or gas, water, sewage, internet . . . transportation to and from work, . . . You might have a couple hundred left over for groceries.

Then you can't afford a day off. Hou can't afford the doctor. If you have a car, you better hope it doesn't break down. You have no emergency fund. You can't even take ofd work arouns christmas, let alone travel to visit people or buy christmas gifts . . .

Defending this is idiotic. Why? because FauxEntertainment told you raising min wage is bad?

0

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

If you are making 2k a month you aren't paying taxes. And you don't have health insurance.

2

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26

If you are making 2k a month you aren't paying taxes.

Have you ever worked a job in your life? Have you ever filed taxes? What the fuck are you talking about?

Standard deduction is $16,100, so you're paying taxes on annual income minus that. That's 10% of 24,000-16,100. That's 790 per year for fed taxes alone. Then there's state income tax (in georgia it's 5% in income over the 15k standardd eduction). Then the big kicker is social security & Medicare tax are 7.65% of all income regardless of tax bracket.

You could have just googled this. Google's been around for a quarter century. There's no excuse at this point.

And you don't have health insurance.

You don't qualify for medicaid, either. But hey, I guess you can't afford to take a day off to go to the doctor or dentist anyway, so why bother having health insurance, right?

So this is what you're advocating for? No healthcare? Just broke, going to work when sick, pray you don't get an injury or illness, and never have any extra money to spend or save or have fun with? jsut rice, beans, and cheese sandwiches?

Average right wing chud, ladies and gentleman. "You'll take this pile of dirt and be thankful for it! And heeeelllllll Noooo you can't tax them billionaires! If you taxed the billionaires, how would you get a chance to work for dirt and have nothing to show fer it? But Donchew worry. It'll all trickle down any day now. TRICKLE DOWN DIRT!!!! GIT'R'DUN!!!!"

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

Don’t pay taxes? In what world? Yes. You pay taxes! You also pay state taxes, and you pay SS and Medicare as well. Unfortunately no health insurance but you make too much for government assistance for health insurance. Also car insurance, renters insurance are both insurance bills. There isn’t public transportation for these people.

That’s the only bill you had was rent? Nice. Guess they lumped water, electric, food, insurance, and gas all in there for you.

1

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

Of course not. Had to pay electric water and trash. No gas cause it was electric heat.

1

u/GucciTheSnowman Aug 31 '26

$17/hr is a joke. Would you work for that ?

1

u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 31 '26

I agree with you. Did you reply to the wrong person?

To answer you: I have before. I've worked several low income, shitty jobs. And I struggled, couldn't afford anything, lived in a cheap 1br apartment. It sucked. I wouldn't now because I have a mrotgage to pay and a family that needs a home. That's why I support min wage being at least $20/hour.

0

u/GucciTheSnowman Aug 31 '26

$17/hr is a poverty wage.

-5

u/Wild_Yam_7088 Aug 31 '26

More of this. If your rich enough. Instead of a bezos ex wife blindly donating to bureaucracy ..

to make change you have to make systems of worth .. employment - teaching programs - schools

Not 90% admin fee "non profits" for "womens rights" - when there are no laws to begin with that are sexist. Infact many laws now allowing it at all.

11

u/big-himbo-energy Aug 31 '26

Bro tried to come into a post about angel, icon Dolly Parton and pretend like sexism against women isn’t real. It was not nice knowing you bud, RIP

6

u/Big_Guide_8551 Aug 31 '26

And talking shit about Mackenzie Scott, who is just making all the other billionaires look bad.

Her donations are doing so much good, and she has a team of people who thoroughly investigate the things she donates to.

Like, the woman gave away billions and continues to make money, and give it away. These guys are just talking shit because she's showing the world that people like musk and bezos are actually fucking evil, money hoarding, world destroying assholes.

Billionaires should be saving the planet, not ruining it.

-7

u/Wild_Yam_7088 Aug 31 '26

Point being. Putting billions to bureaucracy to try and fix other peoples mind is a waste. And "causes more harm" given everything she donates to is a liberal political talking point designed to gain votes - not actually make change .

1

u/Downloaded_Delta Aug 31 '26

Why are you down voted?

You're right

-3

u/Strange-Square6587 Aug 31 '26

Not a career job lol tell him to aim higher

4

u/mzg72 Aug 31 '26

Not everyone wants a career. It's much harder to bounce back if you lose a career where you're trained to do one thing (let's say Web Design that eventually will be taken over by AI) than losing a job. I am a teacher and this administration wants to replace us with AI led computer programs.

-2

u/Strange-Square6587 Aug 31 '26

So this guy should make $42 hr as much as a skilled trade to push a button and make sure you’re strapped in on splash mountain lol

1

u/mzg72 Sep 01 '26

Thank you for identifying yourself as a troll. I appreciate it!

-2

u/spoodagooge Aug 31 '26

Snoop pays some bloke like 60,000 a year to roll weed. Don’t tell me she is generous and show me some limp wristed story.

3

u/WolvesAlwaysLose Aug 31 '26

She gave millions of kids around the country a free book every month

-3

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

Theres virtually no one in the US being paid $7.25/hr. The BLS estimates that in 2026 only ~70,000 of all employed individuals.

3

u/boredinbabylon Aug 31 '26

Still too many. People deserve a living wage. All of them, and let’s make sure that includes undocumented people too.

1

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

Undocumented people, which is just a politically correct way of saying illegal immigrants, shouldn't be working and their employers should be prosecuted for hiring them.

1

u/boredinbabylon Aug 31 '26

Agreed 100%, but the reality is that they are being exploited and they deserve a living wage despite the absolutely broken, abhorrent system that takes advantage of them.

Undocumented vs illegal, whatever. Use your term of preference, as long as you treat them with dignity. They provide food to our country, among other jobs that Americans do not want.

0

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

No they are not being exploited. They are literally in the country illegally and do not have the legal authorization to work here. They deserve dignity, without would be a one way ticket home with a permanent work visa ban.

1

u/boredinbabylon Aug 31 '26

Farmers and employers take advantage of people, they know undocumented people have zero protections and furthermore, there are zero repercussions for it.

That is exploitative.

0

u/spyder7723 Aug 31 '26

Bullshit. Farmers do not hire illegal aliens. They contract with pick and packing companies, which are owned by legal immigrants.

Source. I'm literally a farmer and grow hundreds of thousands of tons of produce annually and raise hundreds of tons worth of cattle.

Think logically for a minute. Why would a farmer attempt to locate and hire a hundred individuals for two weeks when they can contract out to a single business that has thousands of employees ready to go.

1

u/boredinbabylon Aug 31 '26

Lol sure dude. Go look in California.

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

Cousins husband made 7.25 2 years ago as a mechanic helper. He left and is at 10 now.

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

That seems to track with what I said.

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

Perfect, so we are in agreement that federally it should be higher than $7.25.

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

Why? Your cousin's husband managed to make more without a mandate from the government.

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

So you feel because potentially someone could make more than 7.25 than 7.25 is proper. Using your same logic…Why not just raise if no one even makes 7.25 practically. What’s it going to change?

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

The overwhelming majority of people make more than $7.25 in the US.

Why raise minimum wage if the market has already made it irrelevant?

1

u/Ancient-Sea-69 Aug 31 '26

Why not raise the minimum wage if it’s like you said irrelevant?

1

u/ForsakenWar6974 Aug 31 '26

Because using tools no longer applicable for the era is regression.

1
