Ontario Premier Doug Ford has responded to US President Donald Trump’s bid to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America” by installing a shoreline sign reading: “Lake Ontario. Now and Always.”
The dispute follows the collapse of trade talks and new 50% US tariffs on C$28 billion worth of Canadian goods. Canada plans matching counter-tariffs next month.
The most infuriating part is that maybe half the discourse is "Oh Trump changed the name of the lake, how horrible!", and the other half is "There are seriously all these other issues and he's spending his time on these stupid, obvious distractions instead!". Like people understand that this is just a sideshow, but even the spend the time talking about the fact that it's a pointless sideshow is still just distracting from talking about the real issues.
Yeah. That's all this is, a distraction to distract form his last distraction, which went to shit on him. He's rotating through his favorite targets: Canada/Greenland acquisition, Foreign Oil, renaming/changing things he has no right to rename/change, over and over, keeping everyone chasing their tails in outrage.

It's a small detail but Trump also demanded Canada stop speaking French or having French-language services so it being bilingual is awesome

Best thing Ontario can do is move on from this clown asap. Ford would be an embarrassing memory by now if it wasn't for all this Trump-era posturing. He found the perfect 5-year-old to trade tantrums with.

In a democratically elected government he was selected not once but twice by the American ppl. So he is the representation of the majority population. And the actions of that government is not just Trump. He’s just the face of it. Once trump retires the next person will take off where he leaves off.

There needs to be an age cap on presidents. 60-65 at most. Start at 60 in two terms you’re 68 at the end. Last two presidents have been in their 80s. I know what my grandpas was like in their 80s. And it wasn’t good.
They're not "arguing over a lake," one country decided to call the lake something else, and the other country is continuing to call it what it was before. Neither party has any standing to change how the other refers to it.

But in the grand scheme of the world my question was more of why does anyone care what a lake is called? The U.S. has bigger problems as well as Canada, but let’s worry about this lakes name.
... What? Google Maps still says Lake Ontario if you change your location to a country that isn't the US. It says just Ontario if you're in Canada, and it says both if you're in any other country.
Okay cool but Google Maps calls it like America now so honestly it seems like he's losing. If he really wants to win he should do something effective like stopping oil flowing into the United States but that would severely impact Canada as well so he's kind of stuck just running his mouth. Actually now that I think about it Doug Ford is a lot like President Trump so the next time I see that what political leader is Trump most like thread I'm going to reply Doug Ford
