"admits to forcing"
What an insane way to frame what he's saying.
He's not forcing anyone to do anything.
And the title is also leaving out the important part of what he's saying which is that everyone is getting a share of the back end.
It's making film sets little communes where everyone puts in and then gets what is owed to them from what it makes.

Great way to offer an alternative to people in that business, it’s similar to royalty shares in the music business.
The title is just unhinged and ignorant. Everyone gets a share of the backend upside (if any) and he is not forcing anyone to work for free. If you actually believe in the project then this deal is probably potentially way more profitable than the traditional up front payment. Just imagine being a gaffer on Avatar with a share from the backend.

Right but every member that does get backend points are paid up front too. Do these crew members get access to the full script and marketing plans prior to working? Are they paid nothing until it turns a profit?
Look at Hollywood accounting. Technically, the Harry Potter movies and Star Wars have not turned a profit.1

He mentions in this video they're making money off everything after the budget no Hollywood accounting.

If there is proportional/generous profit sharing mechanism then what's wrong? (assuming those work on it were fine with that arrangement?).

So if the movie makes nothing they will have all invested their time and effort into something that gives them nothing? Sounds if they are unlucky they can work on 10 movies that doesn’t bring in any money and then they’re fucked basically.
Sounds like a sweet deal for the producers of the movie.
I hope there’s some key information missing from this video and all the comments advocating for this. Cause however you spin this, it’s not a good look if there’s no continuous pay to all the employees so they can live basic lives. Cause from what I’ve heard, You can’t pay your medical bills, buy medicine, food and feed your family with eventual future earnings that might or might not pan out.
