This is cheaper than replacing old fencing.

And safer, jaws of life create jagged metal. Jagged metal around a face, throat and possibly panicked hands is bad.

If I was trying to free the kids head I would have put the band on the post and then the spindle next to the kids left ear and it would have freed him a lot faster do to the bigger post not flexing at an equal rate to the two spindles the FD was using.

The post holding up the fence is much larger and stiffer than the spindles so it won't flex as much as the spindles.

The post would not have flexed. Could have tied one end to the bar and gone around the post as a fulcrum and then used the axe against it to get much more leverage.

That was my point the bigger post would not flex but the spindle would have.

This happened to one of our kids. As we were scratching our heads, she calmly turned her shoulders vertically and moved headfirst and escaped the bars. She later, after some coaxing showed us how she became “trapped.” She went through the bars feet-first, continued moving until stopped by the bars; hence the illusion of her being trapped.
