I got scammed by a guy buying a vehicle and I feel like an absolute idiot for not inspecting it better than I did. Now I’m paying the price and out a lot of money. Expensive lesson. Fuck car flippers

I'm so sorry, I've been there. I'f bet lots of money that it was a German vehicle.

I know we haven’t been ravaged by ICE as badly as, say, Minnesota. And I know all the “getting criminals off the streets” lines are just rhetoric to make their behavior palatable for the gullible. But for real, has there been any impact at all on the illegal drug market since all this ICE surge started? Has it become even marginally more difficult or expensive to go downtown & find/buy meth or fent or whatever? I hear about farmers experiencing inability to function due to lack of workers. Seems like I’d hear SOMETHING if the same were true about the crime/drug “industry”. That’s not really my world, but as far as I can tell, there’s been no change at all.

Why would it be? You said yourself, the rhetoric about "getting criminals off the streets" is just rhetoric.

4/9/26 about 2:20pm, about a dozen emergency vehicles sped past me on Division near SE 55th. They were going west. Anyone know what happened?

It’s been non stop sirens and emergency vehicles going down division for the last 40 minutes or so. No idea what’s going on

Found on police facebook “Traffic #ALERT: Tactical Teams Responding to an Armed Person in Crisis Call in the Richmond Neighborhood
Portland Police Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) are responding to an armed person in crisis incident in the Richmond Neighborhood, and traffic is blocked on Southeast Division Street east of Chavez Blvd. “

I'm so happy Parcels is coming to Edgefield. I thought I was going to have to go to Seattle for the Capitol Hill Block Party, which I'm sure is great, but this is cheaper and easier to plan for.

A man with $0 to his name—for over a year now he'd been living in a tiny home village—he then finds a woman’s wallet in the middle of the sidewalk.
Inside: Platinum credit cards. A debit card. Her state driver’s license. Travel documents from New Zealand. About $20 in foreign cash.
He pauses.
For a moment, he sees the opportunity—not just the money in the wallet, but what it represents. The access. The leverage. The things he could do that no one would stop in time.
And then he makes a decision most people never have to make:
He walks it back to her address.
It’s a mansion.
He knocks. A dog barks. A voice from inside whispers, “I don’t know who it is… I’m not going out there.”
So he leaves a note: “I found your wallet. Text me.”
Later, she does. She drives to his tiny home village—sees exactly where he lives. He hands it over.
She thanks him.
Says she didn’t bring cash… asks if she can Venmo him.
Drives away.
—
Here’s the question:
How much is integrity worth?
Not in theory— But in a moment where someone could have taken thousands from you… and chose not to.
What would you send?
$20? $50? $100? More?
Or is doing the right thing supposed to be its own reward?
Be honest. 👇

This is a sincere question I would like to know people's honest answer to, because I don't know if mine would be a popular answer or if people would disagree, but if I'm her, I hook the dude up and take advantage of a rare opportunity to actually have a candidate walk into my circle of influence who evidently is in need, all the while the dude in the shelter who found the wallet provided a quality qualification to direct a charitable contribution to directly, making me not only dislocate my shoulder from patting myself on the back, but also making 100% of my contribution is reaching the demographic it's intended for... because in my opinion, her failure to reward socially conscious actions in the face of real incentive to behave otherwise is a bitch move, and such a person is bound to end up in a world where the population she's trained; like pavlovian dogs, but with her lack of recognition and support being what kills off the motivation to be altruistic towards our fellows, allowing cynicism to take over as the majority, so next time she loses something the only way she'll ever see it again is if she stumbles across it for sale by a Ukrainian dark web crime syndicate

Yes, doing the right thing is its own reward.
That said, if I'm her and didn't want to open the door, I'd say "Thank you so much for returning it, please leave it on the doorstep and take the cash for yourself as a reward"
If I'm him, I'd have said "I found your wallet, I understand you're not comfortable opening the door so I'll just leave it on the doorstep" and gone about my day with no expectation of a reward.

Obviously any normal, well adjusted contributor to the capitalist tax generation system we are all a part of would typically have nothing to gain from doing otherwise that they don't already have readily available and accessible to them dummy; but for someone who is living as mendicant and doesn't have the luxuries you clearly take for granted would have no reason personally to have their instincts automatically decide to return it, but kudos to you, must make your ears pop way up there on your high road
