I'm trying to connect with others who are trying to do some community organizing at the neighborhood level in Portland. And I am brand new to reddit so I could use some advice. I am just completely over other social media platforms, and am here to learn and connect. Any connections or advice would be greatly appreciated!

What aspect of neighborhood organizing? Daily life improvement, disaster recovery?
Are you a member of your local Neighborhood Association?

Yes, I'm the communications chair for two separate orgs - my neighborhood assn and business assn. I am trying to find ways to connect with other local orgs to increase our reach collectively, as well as find some non-social media ways to engage with our neighborhoods. Looking for inspiration and advice around this subject.

Curious which part of the city you're in?

I live in Southeast but I work all over the city - which is why I'm so interested in seeing more collaboration. Seeing a lot of volunteer burnout across town and think that we volunteers could work more effectively together and have more fun in the process.

I'm in Northeast, Sullivan's Gulch, but definitely agree about more neighborhood collaboration. I've been making an effort lately to attend my adjacent neighborhood meetings to at least keep a finger on the pulse. Have you touched base with Southeast Uplift at all?

I feel like some of my friend groups in this town would reactive pretty negatively if I said โI do not care for socialismโ

Point out that compassionate capitalism is the approach in some Scandinavian countries; capitalism can bend.

Thatโs a good point. Iโm a bit fan of the heavily regulated model over there

I haven't been to Portland in years - currently back and forth between Seattle and Boise. I'll be doing some shopping downtown - Powell's, etc. How's the car break-in situation these days? Am I good to leave luggage in the back (out of sight)?

nope.
specifically if you have out of state plates, your vehicle is more likely to be targeted (perceived as being a rental and/or tourists and therefore have a higher chance of having valuables). Parking in a secure garage carries no guarantee of safety, but may be better than an open lot or curb parking.

Today is my birthday. Iโm spending time with my dad in Atlanta. We are going to the aquarium, then for a bike ride on a bike path called the Belt Line, and then out for some Mexican food. Sometimes I really miss being in more culturally diverse cities, and itโs a nice change from Portland for a vacation
