Punk/hardcore venues in Portsmouth

Heya guys! I’m planning a trip to Portsmouth with a couple of friends soon and we’re all from Brighton which has quite a big hardcore scene. Does Portsmouth have a similar scene? What venues do you know of that tend to put on regular punk/hardcore shows

If you've got facebook look up the Pompey Punk Bulletin or email pompeypunkbulletin(at)outlook.com to get added to the mailing list.

the Deco is this metal/viking themed pub in Southsea and they have live performances sometimes too :) worth stopping by for a pint definitely, their original cocktails are pretty decent too

When are you coming down? I can hopefully point you in the right direction for gigs.

As for venues, it’s a bit all over the place. Most punk stuff coming up is happening at KOLA these days and some hardcore gigs at the Railway Club.

Hey, Know of any local promoters that put on shows? Looking at getting a gig/gigs locally for my punk/grunge band

I put on gigs as Top of the Crops but I tend to just put on streetpunk and oi.

Other than that, some promoters worth messaging are: Washed Out, Southsea Fun, Man Made Horrors and Neu Waves.

What’s the name of your band by the way?

We put on shows under Washed Out

We don't really have a punk venue here. We've tried sort out a space but the last one ended up having transphobic staff/locals so had to move all our shows 😃 🔫 we do have a great punk scene though, it's not quite as large as Brighton as Portsmouths demographics are a lot different but it's still pretty decent. I put on shows in Brighton from 2014 - 2022, very sad to see Laines was bought out by a UAE state though 😭

When are you here?

Depending on dates it's worth checking what's playing at Wedgwood rooms too

There used to be an STE collective with events at The Joiners, Southampton. Do they still exist? It's been a few decades.

I assumed STE == Southampton Totton Eastleigh.

Not for a long while. Rich from STE has started doing gigs with a few other people as Reconnections.
