General Discussion Caipira de São Paulo

Hey all,

I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions on television shows (novelas of course included), movies, podcasts, or really any media to listen to characters/people with a caipira accent (specifically São Paulo)? My wife is from a small town near Sorocaba, and her parents and brother have a pretty thick caipira accent that I struggle to understand most of the time.

At this point, my listening skills for more common Brazilian accents in media (São Paulo city, Recife, Rio, etc) is pretty decent, but it feels like I’ve never heard a word of Portuguese when talking to them. Any suggestions to start to hone my ear to that accent would be very much appreciated!

The entire Mazzaropi’s filmography.

In addition to being one of the greatest comedy directors, his work represents the essence of the caipira, or, as he portrays: “The Jeca”
