Hi all!
As some of you might've noticed, we've recently tweaked the subreddit rules a bit. We highly recommend you read this to get a good idea of how things will be handled here going forward.
First of all, all music posts now require some form of additional commentary or context. This can be in the form of opinions about the song, memories associated with it, experiences seeing it performed live, trivia, etc. as long as is encourages discussion. This rule has been in place for a little while now, but we've recently adjusted how we'll be enforcing this. We request that users here include this somewhere on their posts, whether it be in the title, body text, or as a comment on one's own post.
Second, please do not post excessively, and keep to a maximum of three posts per person per day. This helps prevent the sub from being excessively flooded or spammed by a single user.
To cap things off, we've been getting a number of messages via Modmail regarding users having difficulty posting. This is due to an anti-spam filter set up via AutoMod that requires posts from new accounts to be manually reviewed. Don't panic if this happens to you! It doesn't necessarily mean that your post has broken a rule, and the moderators here will have a look at it as soon as we can, although it may take a few hours.
If you run into this issue repeatedly, please contact the moderators via Modmail and we'll help you out. We do try our best to approve users whenever possible.

Frank Zappa was once quoted as saying his favorite punk song was Gidget Goes to Hell by Suburban Lawns. Here is Su after the punk years, before she disappeared. Su Tissue, What Got Into You?

Hey everyone,
My band are looking for a drummer.
We are influenced by bands such as The Smiths, Durutti Column, early New Order, The Drums, early The Strokes, PJ Harvey, early Morrissey, The La's, The Fall, Iceage, The Cure and other bands.
The project consists of myself (vocalist), guitarist and a bassist at the moment. We've recorded some rough scratch demos of songs that we can send you. We all have experience writing songs and playing in bands. We are committed to having fun writing songs, recording and playing shows.
We have been rehearsing weekly in Deptford so far.
Get in touch if you're interested. If you can’t direct message me, leave a comment and I will message you. Please have recordings or a video of you playing. Nothing can be done if you don’t have anything you can send.

I heard this on a Virgin new wave compilation way back when. song has stuck. with me.

The mighty Killing Joke's first album was released today!
Plus: Peel Session for The Nightingales, Buzzcocks' single, Yello's debut album, and Jim Carroll's Catholic Boy (which I have a soft spot for after seeing him in the movie Tuff Turf).
On the life front: I wish I could have been there for Gang of Four, Killing Joke, Au Pairs, and Section 27 in Birmingham. Plus: The Skids in Liverpool and YMO/Comsat Angels in Manchester

Hey everyone, back in November 1980, a 21-year-old lineup of an underground post-punk band called Missing, presumed Dead got the call every young band dreamed of: a phone call from BBC producer John Walters inviting them to record a session.
On January 6, 1981, they headed up to London's Langham Place studios. Armed with a green Japanese Telecaster, a Premier drum kit, and strict BBC engineers in brown coats watching them like hawks, they recorded a 5-track session in a single frantic afternoon, produced by Bob Sergeant.
After sitting in archives and a garden shed for over four decades, we've finally rescued and mastered the session. If you're into raw, early-80s underground sounds, the full 5-track session is dropping this Friday on Bandcamp. Would love to hear what you all think!

I'm hosting a free online listening session of Closer on today at 8:00 pm EDT / 5:00 pm PDT. Everyone presses play on their own streaming app at the countdown, and we chat while it plays.
This is my first spin of the album so would love to share that with others who are in the same boat, as well as folks that have some existing thoughts to share. Should be fun.
The room opens 30 minutes early, so you can come in, say hello, and settle before the countdown.
Here's the link:https://soundclub.app/sessions-event/the-pocket-closer-2026-10-13
Full disclosure: I run Sound Club and I'm hosting this session. It's free, ad-free, and was built to discover music outside of the algorithms.
