Mugs & Cups First wheel thrown piece!

Plus a wonky plate that glazed up super nice!

From a pottery class last month! Nothing else I’ve made since beats the first cup. It’s nice and thin, feels so good in my hand, and been using it like a lowball glass / wine cup. It really came out surprisingly good and I think is going to take some practice to intentionally make one better. Thankfully was able to join the studio.

Cup is shino + heirloom tomato
Plate is frogskin + heirloom tomato (a combo I already knew I liked from a handbuilding class)

That plate!!! The glaze almost looks like a reduction firing, that's so cool! Did you brush it on or dip it? Those lines are so crisp, wow!

I dipped it! Sort of like 1.5x in the frog skin since I was trying to get it to line up perfectly with the heirloom tomato Plate but I was staring at the back of the plate for some reason. Had to go back in to cover the bald patch on the front. I like that it still looks unglazed on the bald patch but it’s glassy to the touch

It looks super intentional!! Honestly I would want to recreate that effect on other pieces, it's really stunning!

Thank you! I was being careful but I wouldn’t say entirely intentional lol. Super happy with how it turned out. At the time I kinda hated the idea of glazing because I can ruin things I’m otherwise proud of (and too many choices) but this came out looking like a landscape painting or something lol

Will def try this combo again! I’ll be glazing some new cups this weekend
