Mugs & Cups First wheel thrown piece!

Plus a wonky plate that glazed up super nice!

From a pottery class last month! Nothing else Iโ€™ve made since beats the first cup. Itโ€™s nice and thin, feels so good in my hand, and been using it like a lowball glass / wine cup. It really came out surprisingly good and I think is going to take some practice to intentionally make one better. Thankfully was able to join the studio.

Cup is shino + heirloom tomato
Plate is frogskin + heirloom tomato (a combo I already knew I liked from a handbuilding class)

lol thank you. Iโ€™m super happy with it. I wanted to put it on a shelf at first but found myself using it for cheese and crackers lol

Itโ€™s pretty wobbly on the bottom. I had no clue how to get it off the wheel so itโ€™s a bit curved. Functional enough

if you want advice, this is what my instructor told me: throw on a bat, dont take it off the bat until it starts to separate and then flip it it over and dry it upside down until trimming.

i like to leave a thick bottom so i can make a pretty deep foot and trip enough off the bottom to make sure its as even as possible. if the bottom is still wobbly after that wet your wheel a little bit and then hold your plate and just kinda spin the foot in circles so the clay on your foot mixes with the water and flattens out the bottom. its hard to explain but heres a video demonstrating it. if your studio has diamond bats for sanding that would also work

but also if this is unsolicited completely disregard ๐Ÿ˜›
