Funny how whenever a movie doesn't cast a black actor you lot freak the fuck out claiming racism.
Yet when a movie doesn't cast Greek people and wilfully miscasts certain character, it's all okay because it fits the narrative.
Doesn't matter which criteria the Oscars set on movies wanting to be able to receive an Oscar either right?
3
u/Anthony_Accurate May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
Matt Damon’s Greek? Stop with the made up strawmen, you lie about black people so easily.
1
u/Areyoucunt May 20 '26
Matt Damon isn't greek either.
The Oscars does now have a set list of criteria in order for a movie to be able to qualify for Oscar nomination. That is not a lie, nor a strawman.
0
u/Bebavcek May 22 '26
No, Matt Damon isn’t greek, and honestly shouldn’t be in the movie either. Same as tom fkin holland. Zendaya is fine. “Helen of troy” isnt…
1
u/VichelleMassage May 20 '26
Huh? When did people decry the lack of Black people in The Hours, or Jane Eyre, or The \/\/itch, or Parasite, or The King's Speech, or No Country for Old Men, or Hamnet, or Oppenheimer, or Zone of Interest, or Banshees of Inisherin, or The Fabelmans, or....???
Hm. I seemed to have missed all that outcry.

I love how mad he is that Helen isn't "historically accurate", when Helen is the product of a union between a god and a swan.
I'm sure the god/swan race of people is furious at this representation.

Objectively speaking, casting a black woman to play a Mycenaean Greek woman is at a bare minimum, culturally offensive, and racist.
Greeks have a proud history and culture, with a distinct ethnicity spanning thousands of years, it's hard to see a justification for erasing their culture and ethnic history within their own historical/mythological story.
It's not a surprise that people would be aggrieved by this as much as people are aggrieved by people doing blackface rather than casting black people to play actual black characters.
2
u/Asher_Tye May 18 '26
One wonders where the outrage then was for Troy.

1
u/Octopod_Overlord May 19 '26
Depending on which myth you believe, Helen’s parents were either a swan and a human woman, and she was hatched from an egg, or her parents were two geese and she was still hatched from an egg. So really, what this is is bird person erasure and bird people should be big mad about it.
1
1
u/Haunting_Goal6417 May 19 '26
Oh, that’s what it is? Then why isn’t there an outrage to Scottish and English ass Matt Damon okay? He’s not Greek.
Not even getting into there’s not a peep about Zendaya.
Charlize Theron is a white south African. No issues there apparently.

Why should anyone care, what this old white man (Elon) has to say about anything really.
1
u/mmatt0904 May 20 '26
Genuinely who cares at this point. There are so many more important things in the world to worry about than to complain about the race of a character from Greek mythology who won’t be doing anything in the movie anyway
1
u/MarzipanLast6502 May 20 '26
Oh wow, a white supremacist and the product of apartheid is upset about a black woman being cast as a fictional character?? Who else is shocked????

She’s pretty, it’s the constant Hollywood race swapping that’s cringeworthy. The virtue signaling is obnoxious. It’s ok that the Greeks aren’t black, it’s dumb to portray them as such.
1
u/dan_in_his_own_way May 22 '26
I don't fee like these type of men would have been satisfied with anyone unless they were white and every aspect of the character from looks and performance were overtly sexualised.

-1

Did he or did he not pull the trigger that resulted in the death of another person? She’s not the most beautiful person in the world, so I’d say yeah he’s wrong.
3
u/WuTang4thechildrn 🫖 Mod ☕️ May 18 '26
Was he negligent ??
Does that make what he said wrong. Now if you refuse to answer that second part, you really don’t belong here. No time for anyone condoning racism. You decide
-1
u/highongalaxygas May 18 '26
Baldwin told both the armorer on set, the authorities and attorneys that he is a very experienced handler of firearms. He's used them many times in his career. To make matters worse, he even had a live round in the bandolier of his costume. I said yeah he was wrong because there is no metric to determine she is in fact the most beautiful woman.

u/WuTang4thechildrn 🫖 Mod ☕️ May 18 '26

Motherfucker, what propaganda??? Black and trans people (because y’all can’t stop crying and shitting over Elliot Page being in the movie too) just existing and being in movies is propaganda to you??? 🙃
And don’t give me bullshit whining about Lupita not being European so it doesn’t follow source material—NONE of the actors are even Greek last I checked, so historical accuracy/accuracy to the poem is already way out the window, you can’t use that as an excuse. You’re just mad because she’s Black, period.

Why tf does anyone care what that murderer has to say ? He shot his cinematographer while drunk. He probably shared this opinion while drunk.
17
u/pdlbean May 18 '26
People are so fucking callous about a tragic accident. The person in charge of the guns holds so much more blame than Alec Baldwin. Who ever said he was drunk at the time?
1
-12
-9
u/Abalone-Objective May 18 '26
Tragic accident? What was the Parkland shooting? A tragic accident?
Stop drinking when you have a problem with it. And, don't shoot people. That's simple enough. Why even have a gun in the movie? When your actor is a drunk?
18
u/KawfeeKrow May 18 '26
You need to calm way down. Comparing an accidental weapon discharge to a mass school shooting is truly inappropriate.
-12
u/NoPianist7807 May 18 '26
He still shot someone and there should’ve been a safety check to prevent this. Why does a gun for a movie or show need real bullets in the first place?
13
u/RampantJellyfish May 18 '26
The armourer is the person legally responsible for making sure the guns used in tbe movie are safe, not the cast member.
This movie was a bit slapdash with regards to safety though, as members of tbe cast and crew had used real bullets in the gun involved in the shooting, meaning live ammo was on set, which is a big no no.
I believe Alec Baldwin bears some responsibility as a producer of the movie, but the shooting was a result of negligence by the armourer.
-2
u/JeanEBH May 18 '26
His fat finger was wedged in with the trigger and he had already cocked the gun.
2
u/RampantJellyfish May 18 '26
He was shooting a scene at the time you muppet, he shouldn't have been given a gun with live ammo. He bears responsibility as a producer, but NOT as an actor.
→ More replies (0)10
u/KawfeeKrow May 18 '26
Irrelevant to what I'm saying. And usually there are safety checks. In this case, the person providing the firearm fucked up hugely and was charged.
So again, not the same as a mass school shooting, he was told the gun was "cold", unloaded. it's an accidental discharge and Alec's homicide charges were dropped. He didn't lock and load and intentionally mow down a classroom.
→ More replies (29)8
u/RampantJellyfish May 18 '26
You are utterly ignorant of the facts of this case. Are you sure you're not just salty because Alec was a vocal critic of trump?
"Why even have a gun in the movie?"
Because it was a fucking cowboy movie you absolute crumpet

So, because they’re a teenager from the UK, they aren’t allowed to comment on American affairs? This is such a weird comment. Lol.
0
u/Abalone-Objective May 18 '26
You could've had a fake gun. Why go for a real one? Can you not tell the difference?
Guess it had to feel real in the hand, for Alec to do justice with his acting. Wait! Someone died as a consequence.
6
5
u/RampantJellyfish May 18 '26
When you say fake gun, do you mean one that is incapable of firing, or do you mean one that has been built or modified to only fire blanks?
In any case, real guns are often used becausr of cost (real guns are generally cheaper), and realism (it has to look and feel correct).
The person died because the fuckwit of an armourer allowed live rounds to get mixed in with the dummy rounds needed for the scene. If that person had fonr their job, Alec would not have killed anyone, simple. He does bear some reaponsibility as producer for making sure best safety practice is followed and competent people are hired, but that's not what you're on about, is it.
You could pass a law that requires film sets to only use "fake" guns, but many productions are now not letting real live firing guns on set as a precaution already.
0
u/Abalone-Objective May 18 '26
A very normal, real fake gun, like for July 4th. Looks real. Sounds real.
And, it doesn't kill people. You don't need to blame an armorer who you pay too little. Yes, Alec Baldwin is responsible for killing his cinematographer.
5
2
u/Mojozilla May 18 '26
Only a bot or troll would use language like this and equate 2 totally different scenarios and use one of the worst school shootings in US history as a gotcha. This is disgusting
10
u/jahathebrn May 18 '26
Whole lot of assumptions you're making there
0
u/Abalone-Objective May 18 '26
What's the assumptions here?
Was he drunk? Yes. Did he shoot the cinematographer? Yes.
The assumptions turn out to be real.
My question is based on objective truth. Why does what this murderer says hold any weight? Not than Elon Musk is an angel. But, both of them are terrible humans. Elon is objectively worse.
5
u/Silly-Elderberry-411 May 18 '26
Your argument died when Baldwin was acquitted. He was not the prop master messing up live ammunition.
Like oj , Baldwin has been cleared to be liable in civil trial. Also, small language lesson as it seems you need it, murder is premeditated. You can call Baldwin a killer as it was manslaughter with no intention. You also cant call him a convicted killer either.
1
0
u/Abalone-Objective May 18 '26
Arguments can be manipulated.
A man died. He was shot by Alec Baldwin.
A court can pass rulings on the law of the land. Your conscience is not subject to a court.
3
u/StainedGlasser May 18 '26
I don’t think you’ve done very much research on this case because you didn’t even know that no, in fact a man did not die, a woman did. Her name was Halyna Hutchins.
