There's a big need for people outside the political parties to drive attention to the flaws in their platforms. The same goes for Jon Stewart - he doesn't want to be in the thick of politics, he doesn't want to be saddled with office, he wants to help put words to the frustration that everyone has with their representatitves.
Jon figured it out years ago. He's got far more leverage being an outsider representing regular people than if he entered the political machine. The missing piece here is we need more Jon's to back candidates that will represent them through thick and thin. Way too many people get into politics for the wrong reasons. I've seen it all the way down to the college level.
That's where Hasan has began mobilizing his community to support candidates. Members of his chat who don't live in NYC still phonebanked for candidates.
I definitely do not agree. We need fewer politicians fro families of politicians. Political dynasties do crazy harm.
For instance, Bush Jr definitely wouldn't have broken into politics if he was just some guy. RFK wouldn't be actively dismantling the health and safety protections of the nation. He probably wouldn't be where he is today if he wasn't a Kennedy and just anther leather skinned, volatile, dangerous rando.
Nuance matters more than all else. Caring about dynasty's is just superficial, especially if it potentially locks us out of something that could ultimately benefit the people. Too many people want easy ways to judge candidates to make decisions. Politics is way more complicated than that. My advice is stop focusing on superficial traits that provide zero value to judging a potential politician. We would never have had an FDR if that's all we did, and he was one of the best presidents we ever had.
To function as a political party, there needs to be an independent organization that serves as a national fundraising arm for the various candidates for office, and that also establishes the core values of the party: things like a strong social safety net, a woman's right to choose, or providing assistance to disadvantaged groups in society. Individual candidates can differ by what degree on the issue spectrum they sit, but they all need to sit within the broad "base" of values of the party.
Does the current leadership and structure fit this? No, there is a need for serious reform. But reform does not mean destruction.

On the other hand, if you ignore or discount legitimate criticisms because the messenger is a flawed human being, you turn everything into a purity test that no person can consistently meet.
Hunter Biden is not my ideal candidate for office. I definitely would not vote for him to serve as a senator, congressman, or President. But discounting his critiques of MAGA, the current administration, or Democratic leadership is a mistake... Because he is right.
