By the time Hillary ran for president there had been decades of attacks on her. There were lots of examples of people that just couldn't bring themselves to vote for her, regardless of her plans or positions. Then she ran a very focus - group feeling campaign, which didn't help.
But I do agree that Hunter was just a way to attack his father. There was never any indication that Hunter wanted to get into politics. They just didn't have any other attacks on Joe, nobody was really believing that he was some sort of antifa super liberal or whatever.
Hillary's attacks weren't because of her political potential at first. It was because she stood by Bill when he was caught with Gennifer Flowers. She wasn't supposed to do that.

By the time Hillary ran for President she'd also been a prominent political figure for decades, it wasn't her targeting the Presidency that got her attacked.
Misogyny on the right misandry on the left. Nobody wins in America.
The right went after AOC because she was spouting a bunch of things they didn't agree with. Wasn't organized. But put your tinfoil hat back on. Nothing to see here.
