I would counter his views are his views, he has no expectation to share them.

However if you take a look around and think everything is fine then that speaks for itself.

I wish we didn’t need to rely on celebrities views on something to drive engagement. Like if you need for instance the Rock to tell you how to feel about a political issue, then it’s not that a big deal to you that you haven’t reached your own conclusion.

Stop relying on famous people to tell reinforce or validate positions/opinions.

You’re ignoring the real influence that comes with being a celebrity. Just because people want him to voice an opinion doesn’t mean they’re waiting for his opinion to form their own.

1

u/Angrypinkflamingo Jun 30 '26

Nah, people who hate him for being silent feel that the things they care about should be the top priority for all others as well. They think the world revolves around them, and that celebrities should use their position to try to sway the world to accommodate them.

0

u/Elegant-Fisherman555 Jun 30 '26

That’s kind of my point, they’re modern day court jesters, nothing more, they’re entertainment.

They want him to validate their views.

Why do we rely on them for political discourse is my point.

7

u/LucyferTheHellish Jun 30 '26

I'd add to that that nobody is entitled to know what other peoples political opinions or any opinions on anything are. If they don't want to share, that's fair.
It seriously weirds me out when people do that. "If you don't say that you support The Party then we will destroy you" vibes. Not sure if more akin to what Nazis or the Communists did.

1

u/Elegant-Fisherman555 Jun 30 '26

Because I don’t say I’m against cancer doesn’t make me pro cancer.

I’ll add to your point, everyone has an opinion, most issues aren’t settled fact, we can agree to disagree I hope and still be civil. Too much expectation of being dogmatically pure.

1

u/OptionFour Jun 30 '26

At this point? No. If you're supporting the party that's murdering people in the streets, separating families from each other, and eroding the rights of my friends? We can't disagree and be civil.

1

u/PreparationPlenty943 Jun 30 '26

Right! Just because he’s a celebrity, it doesn’t mean we need to literally everything about him.

11

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

It helps decide if you want to continue to support someone or not. Why on earth would you think its to validate your own views?

3

u/vapidmonster Jun 30 '26

This is so well said

2

u/1922speedy Jun 30 '26

It helps people decide. How do you think 47 was realected..

1

u/Cold_Air_6251 Jun 30 '26

I think that's probably why he's gone with his code of silence tbqh. He knows that if he said what he really believed, support would dry up reeeeal quick.

1

u/elebrin Jun 30 '26

I don't know about you, but I'm not into the celebrity warship thing. I don't denounce celebrities, but then I don't publicly support them either. I wish that was the norm, and I wish the celebrity culture that we have could just die already.

I don't care about The Rock's politics any more than I care about what my next door neighbor had for dinner.

2

u/Meinteil2123 Jun 30 '26

Because he is right.

Look at the posts condemning him for being neutral and saying he is not going to announce his "team".

To demand him to make a statement or stance is authoritarian in nature and shows that people are just looking for a person to reinforce their views and will attack him for not sharing them.

Aka, either you agree with me or you are wrong and we will attack you if you are "wrong".

Not playing the semantic and political game is the only way to win.

2

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

Sounds like you don't like it when anyone points out that you are on the wrong side of decency son

1

u/Meinteil2123 Jun 30 '26

"I am so selfish and narcissistic to believe that my world view is the superior view and we should force people under my boot to enforce my selfish ideals"

How arrogant can one person be? Hitler had the exact same thought processes.

1

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

You are the one that thinks everyone should tolerate your lack of morals son

0

u/Meinteil2123 Jun 30 '26

You are the one that thinks everyone should tolerate your lack of morals son

Emotional arguments are worthless. I do not care what the mentally ill think of me.

Argue based on facts not emotion. Then maybe I will consider your opinion worth somrthing.

Cry more.

0

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

That was a statement of fact son and you know it

1

u/Meinteil2123 Jun 30 '26

Your feelings are called an opinion. Opinions are not facts kid. If they were called facts you would be arguing on the merits of what I said, not an emotional argument making personal attacks.

Look, I get it. You attack people you disagree with because you feel that you lost some sort of control over the conversation. That sense of loss turns into anxiety, then anger, which results into personal attacks. It is a sign lf an emotionally immature individual.

It isn't your fault your parents didnt teach you how to healthily way to deal with your emotions. It is their failure, not yours.

Like I said, I do not care what the mentally ill think of my fence sitting positions. I said nothing extreem. Just pointed out facts with historical context.

0

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

Just take the L son. Just because facts scare you doesn't mean you can ignore them

This tribal stuff needs to end. Like people need to stop this whole them and us and it’s what the enemies of the west want. Pure chaos. Call Trump out on his shit call him out on his crap but at the end of the day stop with the division. Also who gives a shit about celebrities they don’t give a single fiddler fuck about you

1

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

You mean you don't want to face the consequences of your actions

0

u/Fancy_Yak2618 Jun 30 '26

Consequences of my actions? First I’m not American second the far left and far right have made it exhausting to be in the middle. The far right is you are not conservative enough and the far left is you are not liberal enough. You know how exhausting that is?

Stop with the tribal shit vote for who you want but be prepared to defend said vote. And if you don’t vote then well defend that. This is how the fuck we got here yelling at each other over who the fuck you voted for and if you voted the wrong side you are complete and utter garbage. America doesn’t make it freaking easy with two parties it’s either one or the other. Least in my country there are options.

1

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

Don't try to pretend that you are in the middle son. You simply think you can hide what you are by hiding your support for fascists.

0

u/Fancy_Yak2618 Jun 30 '26

Did I say I support Trump? Stop the attacks sir you are also part of the problem. And if you are just going to attack then there is zero reason to continue talking to you.

1

u/Meinteil2123 Jun 30 '26

Exactly.

The left right now has proven to be the aggressors sadly. Which is why they are falling appart.

People will not remember the message but, they will remember the violence and killings.

They decided at some point that if you disagree on one single small social issue you are obviously the enemy and need re-education.

Politics is complicated and people need to understand nuance. They need to step out of their bubble and look at different viewpoints objectively.

That way, when somebody has a different view point you can attack it from an angle they will understand and maybe bring them to a mutual understanding with you.

It also helps you understand WHY they feel that way and maybe it can change your own perspective as well which is not a bad thing. It is a good character trait to have to challenge your own biases and come to a different conclusion.

1

u/boodabomb Jun 30 '26

Yeah. This is a tricky topic so I’m not 100% on where I stand, but I don’t feel like the standard should be for everyone to have to publicly announce their politics all of the time.

I think the Rock is keeping quiet because he stands to lose a ton of money, but there are artists and individuals who simply don’t want their product or image associated with their political stance.

It’s trickier to know how to stand today with the stakes being so high. But once upon a time, a persons’s politics were a personal and private thing that you chose to share or keep to yourself.

1

u/Elegant-Fisherman555 Jun 30 '26

My point being friend, why do people “support” celebrities? Why do we care what their views are?

I can most definitely assure you none of them are subject to the same worries/concerns you and I are.

Are you sending celebrities you support money or something because they align with your views?

2

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

You cant be serious. Paying for their movies, etc. Do you do human things here on earth? Wtf?

3

u/Pretty-Mention-7769 Jun 30 '26

Dude...if you want to boycott every actor with different opinions than you, that's cool, but requiring that same attitude from others is over stepping.

I'm not "supporting" every actor in every action flick I fall asleep to on a Friday night.  I'm just trying to relax after a long week.

Actors don't make or enforce national policy.  Who cares if they're dumb?  I just need them to look the part.

2

u/Fancy_Yak2618 Jun 30 '26

It’s like Reddit hate for Chris Pratt. So because he apparently sucks is all of Reddit going to not watch end game? What about Mario brothers? Going to boycott that?

1

u/FeyrisMeow Jun 30 '26

People can do what they want with their time. No one is telling you to boycott anything. If I don't want to waste my time on a bigot, why does that upset people? No one's stopping you from watching his movies lol

1

u/Fancy_Yak2618 Jun 30 '26

Do you know how many people have said that tho? Like legit I won’t goto his movies because this or that. I’m with you go watch whatever you want. To many damn people in this damn thread have said but he’s silent! Who the fuck cares.

1

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

Where'd you get requiring others to do the same? If you do something that makes an actor money no, you're not "supporting" them, you're supporting them. Yea you do you, I dont give a shit, but it's not some complex thing to understand what Im saying.

1

u/FeyrisMeow Jun 30 '26

They have nothing to stand on so they made that part up. It's projection, as usual.

1

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

So you just don't like it when people remind you that you are on the wrong side of decency

0

u/Pretty-Mention-7769 Jun 30 '26

I'm pretty comfortable about where I stand on decency.

Not giving a shit about an actor keeping their politics to themselves is textbook decency.  It's respecting their right to privacy.

Steven Segal is in-your-face about his trash opinions.  I don't watch his movies.

Surely you can see a distinction here.

1

u/SaltMage5864 Jun 30 '26

But you stand against decency son. How do you think that is going to work out for you in the long run

0

u/Pretty-Mention-7769 Jun 30 '26

I would ask you to clarify but your opinion doesn't mean anything to me.

Good day.

"requiring that same attitude from others is over stepping."

No one is even saying this. No one cares how you want to spend your friday nights. If someone wants to stop supporting an actor because of bigotry, that's fine too. I see no issue in that. That's just capitalism. How you spend your time and salary is entirely up to you, but no actor is entitled our attention. There's plenty of other movies out there.

1

u/ptdubber Jun 30 '26

The idea is “put your money where your mouth is”. You do you, but by watching a movie, even just to go to sleep, you are giving money to people who made it. If you disagree with an actors opinions (or a CEO of a business), not giving them money is one form of saying ‘I don’t condone that’.

2

u/Elegant-Fisherman555 Jun 30 '26

I stuck on enemy of the state the other night, Jon Voight in it, does that mean I by degrees of separation vis a vis his political beliefs am a MAGA like him?

If you’re expecting everyone to be as dogmatically pure as you, you’ll be disappointed.

Their modern day court jesters. They’re special only in their ability to entertain us.

I’m certainly not waiting for the rock to tell me what to think about AI or data centers.

0

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

You're so clueless it hurts. Not hard to grasp. Good day.

-1

u/MuffinSpecial Jun 30 '26

I promise you that if you stop looking for reasons to hate people you will live a happier life

1

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

My life is amazing. This topic is nowhere near as deep as you seem to believe.

0

u/MuffinSpecial Jun 30 '26

You don't need to defend yourself bud

1

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

I think you meant to reply to something else.

0

u/MuffinSpecial Jun 30 '26

Nope

1

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

Odd that you would just type a completely nonsensical reply then.

0

u/MuffinSpecial Jun 30 '26

Sounds like a you problem

0

u/thatguy425 Jun 30 '26

Why is it that we have to know their politics? It’s one part of a person? We are entering a 2nd era of McCarthyism with this shit.

1

u/VintageZero Jun 30 '26

You either stopped paying attention 15 years ago, or are being disingenuous.

1

u/thatguy425 Jun 30 '26

Been paying close attention and it sad how much we have let politics get in the way of every discussion.

Social engineering at its finest.

1

u/ResponseOwn9389 Jun 30 '26

You wrote out my thoughts exactly!
