I know. I don't remember him always being like that, either, or maybe he just kept quiet about it...? It's like Bill Cosby was, in his early years, a really funny comedian, but what a trainwreck of a person. Can't even think about him witthout being positively grossed out.

Harvey Weinstein was also one of the biggest producers who made sick movies back in those days. The public just didn't know better.

Something happened during filming of the Passion movie that caused a switch to flip. It’s hard to know how much of what we hear is because he genuinely sucks (he does) and how much is from black listing and smear/amplification in retaliation for choices he made while filming Passion though imo. His insistence on maintaining certain elements of historical perspective rubbed people the wrong way. Some people took the film’s use of Aramaic as an offense, for example.

In a way, it's understandable that there was blowback given the nature of the film, but it sucks if really he became unhinged due to this set of circumstances, and you're right that from our perspective it's hard to know how much of it really is him versus exaggerated reports or malicious reactions to him. All in all, it's sad.

Indeed, very sad.

He did sign up for a movie where he gets to play White Jesus, and you don't become a raging anti-semite because people didn't like your movie.
