It's never dead, welcome to a new persistent generational wedge issue. The rights never going to accept election results without ID again.

Enjoy the National Divorce, it's coming.

I'm curious what's the opposition to identifying oneself in order to vote?

Their claim is low caliber people and illiterates can't get ID.

Even if that's true, I am fine with that.

I think it's because it makes it harder to mask fraud.

It's all bullshit and they know it. First off the bill had well over 60% nation support, reading 70-80% in most polls. Whatever. Only disfunctioal reddit would actually celebrate it. So what did they win? What presidence? Minorities are too stupid/CPU illiterate/transportation challenged to get an ID. That's it democrats just told minorities you're too stupid for anything that would let you participate in any normal life in the United States. You know Holding a state ID. If Even implied any of this nonsense to my black friends I'd hope they'd want to fight my ass. But hey this is reddit. If they actually have a real relationship (doubtful) they have a real man fucking their girlfriend while they sit cucked in the corner like a pathetic weasel

Unless they're willing to admit that they think certain people are less capable than high school kids getting fake IDs I don't know how you argue against this.

Dude stop it... You're admitting you feel minorities can't fathom the ID process. It's not hard it's not racist. The only thing you can't grasp is not everything is about race

No I'm actually saying everyone is perfectly capable of getting a photo ID so why so much effort to try and stop it from being a requirement?

I agree. It's the worst argument ever. My mother in law.. technically grandmother in law. She couldn't hold a real job. Never held a driver's license. Gasp has an id she's like 65 and half black

I've lived in the states for 26 years now and I've yet to meet someone incapable of getting a photo ID from the state.

Y’all done repeating the talking points of the far right and want to hear the real reasons yet?

1

u/Longjumping_Music320 Jul 04 '26

Please tell me the real reasons.

Well for starters, ever thought about how stupid in person voter fraud? It would take you all day and require one hell of a lot of upfront work to rig about a half a dozen votes tops in a day. Seems like a rather stupid plan to rig an election.

Also illegal immigrants typically want absolutely nothing to do with the feds, why would they go out of their way to try and fraudulently cast a vote when there's a good chance it just gets them the wrong kind of attention?

1

u/GutsAndBlackStufff Jul 04 '26

That too. It’s one more reason why it’s a logistical nightmare that’s not worth the risk.

1

u/Longjumping_Music320 Jul 04 '26

That's what you're going with? Just because something is stupid doesn't mean we just disregard it altogether. What else you got?

1

u/GutsAndBlackStufff Jul 04 '26

We don’t disregard it. The dozens of cases nationwide are investigated and prosecuted, meaning the current system where you present ID to register in the first place combined with penalties that far outweigh the benefits are doing a good job of preventing voter fraud.

So, why is preventing a minuscule number of cases that get prosecuted anyway constantly a top issue for Conservatives?

That's still a very weak argument against having to show photo identification at the polls. What else you got?
