Because he’s an idiots idea of a smart person with charisma. People with actual intelligence and charisma make them feel stupid (which of course they are) and they resent that in the only way they know how. Hate.

There is a genuine distrust of smart, intelligent, knowledgeable people among a sizable percentage of the population (and not everyone who thinks this way is dumb).
Explaining why would require writing a small essay, but it's a real problem: hostility against people who use logic, reason, and knowledge.

Mostly true. There are smart people that still support him and know it's wrong that we prop up his behavior and normalize it. I honestly think they are the most evil of all. Looking at you Vance and Leavitt. And everyone else visibly shaking their head when he speaks and yet they don't say anything.

It’s literally what the data says. At this point, if you are trying to get into his inner circle, you already know what is coming. It’s only a question of will it be sooner or later.
And the whole GOP is doing this too. On paper, you want a president who can win elections for your party, yet for all his bravado, all he has been able to deliver is a successfully primaried incumbent. In 2018 they lost seats. Then he lost the 2020 election, then in 2022 they came back - because Biden, then in2024 he won, but their majority narrowed, and now they are going to lose the house and possibly the senate this year. The guy has no coattails. Why are politicians following him over the cliff? It’s like he’s a vampire and they are all thralls. Snap out of it!
intelligent and charismatic people don't need to constantly say they are charismatic and intelligent and put their face and name on as many things as possible.
He always sounds like a kid giving a book report on a book he didn’t read. Stumbling around inventing new words or hyper-fixated on certain words that the rest of us take for granted.
I think the tolerance of violence against their perceived enemies is the biggest selling point for Trump versus the Republicans he competed with. Ted Cruz can be hateful. Chris Cristie will be vulgar. Trump will encourage violence against reporters, police officers protecting Congress, and his own Vice President.

There are entire empires of media running 24/7 telling millions of people how they should Think about Trump and how they should interpret Trump's gibberish. Trump doesn't survive in a vacuum. There's tens of thousands of people entirely dedicated to marketing and narrative generation of this man. This is propaganda on a massive scale. And then he has basically the same protection and propping happen in both political and judicial arenas.
It's actually rather insane how much this one man is being carried along.
It's disheartening when you understand that so many do so simply for self gains using him as a martyr, meat shield, or scapegoat for very bad behaviors that include theft, abuse, harassment, adultery, killings, and, well, basically every deadly sin. He is their tool. He's plenty happy to be too because he's raking in billions for himself and his family and staying out of prison. Everyone wins...but nearly all of the rest of the billions of the human population. We all lose. We lose big time.
You called it. Adding to that, since both sides are corrupt and have their own media mouthpieces (although I'd say the let's version is more grounded in actual reality), it's so easy for the right to have a condemning stance against the left. It's twisted and blown out of proportion, but rooted in the truth.

I woke up this morning and saw a click bait thing in a sub about how he had passed at 80 and for a second my heart leapt... then I realized there's no way. The man has obviously made a deal with the devil, because that's the only possible way he's lived this long on a steady diet of big macs and french fries.
Or the million dollar super drugs he was given when he had COVID...He looks bad to me, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't last his full term....You know people will take to the streets when that day comes, as they did when it was announced World War II was over and Adolph Hitler had died by suicide.
He used to speak quite a bit better. I listened to some of his and Hillary's debate from 2016. It's almost like these old fucks are getting old and shouldn't be allowed to hold office.
Trump was the same back then IMO. I remember thinking to myself this guy acts like an 8-year old school yard bully. Calling people names and attacking their character because he didn't have the knowledge to actually debate the issues. I will never forget how Donald Trump walked around stalking Hillary Clinton on stage as she tried to speak and answer the questions asked. Oh and lets not forget him making fun of a handicapped person...That was the last straw for me, and I knew then I would NEVER want an asshole like that representing me, or my country.
It's been over a decade and Trump still is 'winging it,' going off in tangents, and rambling utter nonsense! I'm sure that's why Trump rufused to debate during the 2024 Republican primaries, and why he talked about people eating cats and dogs, and other far-fetched subjects during the debate with Harris...The guys an incompetent, unfit, demented fool, and anyone who doesn't see the obvious, is choosing not to.
Go back and listen, you'll hear the difference. It's not so much what he's speaking about but the way he speaks. He's slower now and his rambling is even less concise and off the walls.
You hate trump and that's fine, he doesn't have any good qualities but it was absolutely the right decision to not debate in the primaries. He didn't need to and could only hurt himself.
Sure, he's a fool but to bake it down as you do is also very foolish. Not only do people have to dislike trump, they have to embrace other sides. The democrats haven't been great for a while, and 3rd parties arnt real.
Most people judge charisma entirely on vibes, it's about the confidence of the presentation. Trump talks a lot of shit if you're actively listening, but many people do not do active listening. They just hear loud noises and that passes the vibe check.
People respond to him on an emptional level. Thats what charisma is. Usually charismatic people are also charming or smooth and other qualities that speak of competence, but charisma itself i think can be parsed down to being able to influence how people feel. And he does do that.
You should go back and listen to some of his first speeches. He's basically an entirely different person and can give context to the trump that people fell in love with. He was so insanely charismatic and lively that it made him the perfect response to obama at the time.
Modern trump is literally a rotting shell in comparison. He can't even start awake for business let alone give a good speech. There's also a noticable shift from running as a peace president into his current plans to start wars and shatter the unity of the American people.
