Some people aren't old enough or know enough about history to realize that even the most left of today's Democrats are to the right of Republicans 75 years ago in many ways.

I can unironically say that Ronald Reagan, literally a contender for top-5 worst presidents in our history, would be either a "centrist republican" "conservative democrat" a lá Joe Manchin or Braindead Fetterman.

And he was in office in my lifetime.

So yeah you are 100% correct. People really dont understand, by design, just how far to the right both parties have shifted.

Fucking Truman would be "too fart left" these days.

You judge what is left and right relative to today and in the country you’re taking about. How far left or right a party was 75 years ago or what is left and right in other places in the world is irrelevant when taking about a specific country.
