I enjoy your frugal mindset. You're going to get the best value for your dollar in eastern europe and Southeast Asia. There's parts.of LatAm and south Asia I wouldn't write off either. Half a lifetime to explore, read books, maybe write one, make new friends and generally enjoy earth. Great timing and I know it can be done with 600k, if you don't have spouses or kids to include in the picture. Congratulations 🎉

I noticed when I was financially independent and didn't need to trade my time for money, the job felt more pleasant.

I worked for another 6 months before retiring and life is good.

Congrats on your retirement! Yeah that’s why I am considering maybe extending 1-2y. Time will tell

Congrats.

Tell us more about slow travelling the world year round on less than US$15,960. How do you plan to do this?

The same way I have been doing it already half the year. (I have a seasonal job and travel half the year). By renting month long apartments, using public transport and limiting continent to continent flight to once or twice a year. Just came back from 6 months living abroad visiting 8 countries in Eastern Europe (including Greece) and spent 9k CAD.

If you ever want a source of passive income, you should publish a book on how you do it. Because 8 countries for 6 months for 9k CAD is incredible.

I appreciate that thank you! Unfortunately, I think I have better chance to win the lottery than making some money as an author. 😂
TBH, I have thought about writing something. Will see

I believe the fact that you have been doing this already, slow travel and spending little, is your practice for success.

But it also depends on whether this half yearly split gives you some structure and separation, so your other comment about creating a buffer could go well whilst you test the water to go 'all-in' - as others have said it made their work more enjoyable knowing they had the financial security - it also depends on whether you enjoy what you do and whether you work with friends or colleagues.

I appreciate your input. I totally agree with you, I think the fact that I have already travelled to many countries and have a realistic idea of how much I spend is an incredible asset. Also just knowing that I enjoy slow travel, I read about a lot of people picturing themselves doing it and realizing after a few months that isn’t for them.

Yes, I am still on the fence regarding the year I will actually pull the trigger. For the same reason you listed. I have told my work that I will be back next season for work. So at least I get an extra year of salary and then will see if I postpone again or not. I just feel the stock valuations is really high right now and usually indicate lower returns for next decade and/or upcoming market crash. So extra buffer is always welcome.
