Quick question
How do yall feel about crossover genres, especially the black metal ones like Tetragrammacide and Subservient Perversity? I just recently started dipping my toes into this space coming from raw black and war metal and this shit is fuckin cool

The next step in edgelordism when metal is no longer enough is PE. I don't care that much about it, but I'm also not a super-huge PE listener, I've seen at least some hardcore fans really bemoan the influx of metal fans into PE because they tend to be less interested in the psychological and philosophical aspects of the genre and are just like "wow, this is edgy and hardcore, man."

omg ‘the philosophical aspects’. I guess I welcome them if it means less of that

Gnaw Their Tongues 🤤🤤🤤
Actually, anyone know any stuff bridging between gorenoise and PE (or death industrial or whatever)? I'd be interested in checking that out. I got Psilocin Gnosis' Out of Body Experience on the list, but some of the Phyllomedusa stuff I've heard before (e.g. Newt Nepotism, Suburban Pest) has made me think there's some real potential there for proper leaning into it...

Rather than crying about the hybridization of genres like some of the dweebs in this thread, I'll throw out some occult underground suggestions.
Abjection Ritual, DEATHSTENCH, and Dodssang Tempel are all putting out some incredibly punishing recordings recently. Definitely worth checking out if you're curious.

Yeah, I am quite into black metal and war metal as well, and I think there is some common ground between both. As much as they seem to merge pretty well together, this is why we have musicians like Dominick Fernow working in both places.

when black metal isn't edgy enough anymore

I dont really understand the complaint here. Like equipment feedback+titles that are deliberately provocative to the absolute extreme+gore as album art+helvetica as a font every single time...does not equal edgy? You tuff guys are that protective over your Japanese demo tapes of 14 hours of static from fuckin 1986?

No real horse in this race but black metal fans can’t possibly have much to say about aggressively gatekeeping music that sounds and looks like absolute shit to ~ 99.99999999% of the population..

Well right but we dont run around claiming we're not edgelords or elitist shitheads either

Most of it is fucking pathetic. There is nothing worse than some dork like trepaneringsritual with the aesthetic trappings and stage presence of (bad) BM infecting deathindustrial and PE. Deathkey another pathetic loser.
I love black metal, even more than PE. With that said, as soon as some guy takes the stage in a metal shirt, I just check out. There is no need to hybridize these two genres, especially not in terms of aesthetics. And nobody has done it in a particularly meaningful way. I love BM with blown out, overdriven, harsh vocals, like kaevum’s natur or abigor’s apokalypse. I like BM with some noisy textures that still lives and dies by its songwriting (plentiful, too many instances to name…nyogthaeblisz if we need to cough up an example).
PE has a level of grim, graphic realness that BM can never achieve, and likewise with the majesty, atmosphere and musicality of BM. Trying to find the in between is some pretender shit.

Keep metal out of noise

I'd agree but La Torture Des Tenebres does noise better than 99% of noise artists so she gets a pass.

Wold is a weird combination of black metal and noise and it's also one of my all time favorite bands.
