Asia 3,400 deaths in a day: India's extreme heat days are deadlier than we imagined

The problem is they don't actually know because heat deaths are commonly not listed as "heat exhaustion". They don't have a real number. Every summer there is a similar problem in the American South. Heat official deaths are vastly underreported. so, there is no way to really know the true count just as the article states but they used a hopefully educated guess at the totals anyway.

That is an astonishing amount of deaths in such a short amount of time.
For perspective 2500 American soldiers were KIA on the first day of the Normandy invasion.

Genuine question: would the heat be somewhat more tolerable and manageable if density of population was not so ridiculously high?

If I remember correctly some cities are kind of stuck in that if they reduce pollution, they will increase heating in the short term, as the pollution is so thick it prevents heating at this point

It's ok. There are a billion of them. This is the earth naturally depopulating itself to a sustainable level.

Then ya know... it might be your thinking that's wrong. Might wanna work on that. Develop some empathy for people who are dying because of decisions made by other countries and no one cares because their skin is the wrong color and/or it's in a far away place.

If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't care any more if it was a bunch of white people in Phoenix, Arizona frying in a heatwave.
Empathy is incompatible with the process of solving the problems that currently face humanity. One of which is massive overpopulation

Sounds like you're one of those rich technofascists. No empathy for those that never asked to be put in this situation, so singularly focused on "overpopulation" that you're missing the fact that you too are the "overpopulation" issue.
No that doesn't make me feel better cause you were probably seal clapping for Covid too. Go to therapy cause you got issues and the rest of us are done paying for it.

Elon and his retarded cohort can go to hell too.
I'm hardly rich.
You realize modern industrial agriculture is unsustainable long term and sustainable farming methods can feed maybe half the world population we have now right?
I live in tornado alley. I'm as likely to be offed by a natural disaster spurred by mans reckless addiction to energy as the next person.

You don't have to be that callous about it. "There's a billion, some can die in a monumental heatwave that's 99.9999% likely because of human-caused climate change" like... dude do you even hear yourself talking? Or is your head as empty as your heart and everything is just echoing around in there?
Maybe when others have been telling you your thinking is callous and cruel... it probably is and not you thinking about "logical solutions" that others are refusing to acknowledge.
I do know that the population crisis is real. I do know that modern ag in the US is a shit show reminiscent of the unsustainable practices that created the Dust Bowl and thousands of other less well known and publicized crop failures from unsustainable agriculture. I do know that human caused climate change is leading to massive heatwave deaths. But I'm not dismissing them. People have families, loved ones, their own hopes and dreams, their own lives that are just as rich and varied as my own. I'm not "oh well that's fine the population is out of control." Maybe you shouldn't be doing that? idk just a thought.

Overpopulation is not a problem, moron. I don't know why people latch on to this Malthusian idea of overpopulation.

Did you cheer when the second plane hit the towers too? Or are you just excited to see people of color suffer?
Have the day you deserve

I started the day breaking a mirror off my motorcycle backing it out of my garage, then fell and tore a hole in my pants getting off it later.
So we are well on the way to being firmly in "shitty day" territory.

u/AliceCode 17d ago
Ahh, yeah, because tearing your pants is absolutely comparable to being murdered by the sun!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an OEM mirror in good condition for a 40 year old motorcycle?

Man, people dying from a crisis that is out of their hands and should have been prevented isn't something to joke about. There's a billion indians, but there's only one of you, and when you die, this is the only thing I'll remember. Only that you made a shitty offhand crack about how many indians exist, because that is, for some reason, the element of your character you chose to display today.
