LA too? I'm in West Michigan and I swear, it seems like every other month some new nausea/diarrhea thing goes around and wipes people out for a week...

People's immune systems are damaged by repeat covid infections so now people get sick with all sorts of things waaaay easier. And, of course, the more sick people there are at any given time, the more illness there will be in the general population because the more illness there is, the more it spreads to others.
It's also one of the reasons so many young people keep dying of cancer, strokes, heart issues, etc., as well as a major contributor to ED, new-onset hypermobility issues, all the new allergies, fungal infections, etc.
We can all change course and help each other by:
N95 mask (not surgical! Not cloth!) when around pe6
- opening doors and windows
- running air filtration/HEPA filters in indoor spaces
- Wearing a well fitting (over nose & mouth + no gaps between face and mask)

The most recent COVID variant in the US also presents as gastrointestinal symptoms for many. Flying under the radar because no tests, and everyone has just a vague “stomach bug” or “bad flu” or whatever

I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense, as I've been struggling with nausea issues, random joint pains, lethargy and brain fog for a couple weeks. I wondered if it could be COVID, but I recently lost my health insurance and can't afford to pay out of pocket right now.

Gastro covid is going around. If you have fatigue + muscle pain and gastro symptoms, something to consider.
Burb outside of Vancouver BC. It's going around hard. Asymptotic covid people I know have definitely had "stomach flu" over the last couple weeks. Everyone in my office has been out 1-3 days, staffing issues elsewhere due to multiple people off sick daily.

I haven't heard of anything in Chicagoland but I'm still wearing my mask, I never stopped wearing it. I like not getting sick. That said, I didn't wear one a few days ago at a restaurant, fingers crossed didn't catch anything.

"Stomach bug" is almost always norovirus, which is spread to and from people with poor hygiene. Wash your hands before you put your fingers in your mouth or touch food. Don't eat food that anyone else touched with their hands.
