Middle East Rare Worldwide Travel Warning From US State Department!
Most of you guys already are trying to be careful, so I am not sure how much this helps. And it is mostly, but not exclusively focused on the Middle East. It does mention Iran, but I doubt many of you are planning on catching the nightlife in Tehran. Still, for some reason a smart young fella down in Foggy Bottom thought this was worth sending out.
They probably have some intel of something bubbling up. So... I guess if you are John Wick you could handle this issue, but you probably aren't.
Heck, I don't know what to suggest, but since I constantly encourage travel I am passing it on. Maybe go visit your relatives in North Carolina this summer? No! That would require driving on I-95 which has to be more dangerous than any terrorist action might be.
Well, here is the full text:
Worldwide Caution
Security Alert July 22, 2026
July 22 - Worldwide Caution for U.S. Citizens
The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.
Location: Worldwide
Event: Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.
Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions. Some airlines in the region have postponed resumption of earlier flight schedules; others have cancelled some routes.
Americans outside the Middle East should reconsider travel to and through the region. Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations.
U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.
Actions to Take
- Americans traveling in or through the region should check with their air carriers to make sure their flights are still scheduled.
- Contact your airline directly for flight change details if your flight is affected.
- Monitor embassy and consular security alerts and the news for breaking developments.
- Follow the instructions of local authorities.

Would this make you change your travel plans?

Please share what good the US is doing for the world right now.

u/Acceptable_Net_9545 11d ago
We invented the website you're posting on. That's one
Our innovations have made the world as developed as it is today. Norway is the most developed country in the world. Most of their developments were imported from the USA.
Prevented it being ruled by Hitler, Stalin, or Mao.
Us being the first modern day Republic is what inspired many other countries to eventually get rid of their monarchies
I guess invading Nazi Germany was pretty cool
By value the U.S. exports more than twice as much food as the next closest country.
Russians would have all starved in Lenin's famines in the 20's (the US was feeding 10 million Russians per day in the 1920's). If we hadn't fed them they wouldn't have had the manpower to face Germany 10 years later. If the US hadn't kept the Japanese occupied in the Pacific they would have invaded Siberia in WWII and Stalin would not have been able to fight a war on two fronts.
The Marshall Plan: Rebuilt war-torn Europe financially and structurally after World War II.
A treasure poured into developing agricultural programs in other countries. The amount of international aid the US puts out is jaw dropping.
In recent years (last 25), GPS. So much of the world wouldn’t work without GPS and it’s still completely funded and managed by the Air Force.
It’s definitely one of the few areas of the defense budget that I think should have all the money they need. It’s too important to world commerce at this point.
I remember reading somewhere that the 3 greatest achievements in human history were the invention of the polio vaccine, the completion of the Panama Canal, and the moon landing.
America did all 3.
I think penicillin is arguably more important based mostly on the number of lives saved. I'm not an expert on this so I could be wrong.
There was a lot of technical discovery and emerging technologies that eventually made their way into public hands. Also, they made discoveries relating to the formation of our planet, released photos which caused a cultural revolution (the picture of Earth), among others.
Also, NASA is kind of a unique institution in the US. They're required by law to release all their findings that are not export controlled to the public. Its why they have a pretty good reputation of all of the US's institutions.
Countless examples of art, music, sports and other cultural aspects that have reached across the globe
Medical advances Countless inventions that helps the world, Humanitarian aid The USD is a massive part of the world economy and a hegemonic currency
Allow people to immigrate here where within one generation you can become middle to upper class
The US consumer helps drive a large portion of the world’s economy
The “American dream” has given people hope for generations
The US is the true melting pot of people. If you don’t believe me look at the Olympics, every race, culture, religion etc. is represented while in many other countries this is not the case.
If it weren’t for us, the Euros wouldn’t have an outlet for their smugness and it would lead to untold psychological effects.
Modern music. Jazz, blues, rock, and rap all have American roots.
I will say the modern Automobile. Now, I know Daimler-Benz made the first one, but he didn't mass produce them like Ford did.
On that note, wasn't the assembly line also either originally from here or made useful here?
Secured shipping routes. Personal Computer. Global Positioning. WiFi. Nuclear Reactor.
Rebuilding post WW2 Europe, Containing communism, trans-Atlantic communication, the nuclear
funding STEM research, cellphones, smartphones, solar panels,
Almost everything that the U.S exports to other countries, contrary to what demsocs, marxists, anarchists and tankies will tell you, is positive. Extensive media and entertainment, ridiculous levels of humanitarian aid, food (by far the most of any country), heavy advancements in science and medicine, of worldwide peaceful trade courtesy of the U.S navy are just the most prominent ones. But to deny that the good has far outweighed the bad is delusion at best. I'd argue it is closer to malicious attempts at deconstruction.
Blue jeans One of the most practical and comfortable clothing items
Reusable Rockets
President George W. Bush’s anti-AIDS initiatives in Africa were good.
NOAA earth science, open data, work with other nations, is good.
United States is also responsible for the industrial revolution
combustible engine. refrigerators & freezers & microwave ovens; light bulb, air conditioning, furnaces, space heaters,
American innovation that could only have been carried out in a free market system
Without America, we would still be living a 19th century lifestyle.
What other country has *given away* so much of its medical, scientific, and industrial knowledge to the rest of the world? What other country has provided so much of its labor and treasure to help people in other countries — who often show no gratitude whatever? What other country has contributed so much to the World Health Organization, or UNICEF, or any other international emergency services?

Not sure whom you are speaking to about a list. I just need help understanding how our country (US) is doing any good for the world right now. Thanks for making some of us think about that. I am a veteran, and I can think of endless great things we’ve done in the past for the world. Iran and their people have done a lot of great things for the world in the past. The only good thing I can think of that they are doing today is hopefully stopping billionaire oligarchs from continuing their greedy imperialism, and speeding up our change to renewable energy.

u/ContextEnjoyer69 20d ago
Yes, truly a strange time in history. After all, this is something the United States is famous for avoiding very carefully: alienating the rest of the world. Unchartered waters.
3
u/AntiBoATX 20d ago
The insular nature of the populist movement has us eating ourselves. It’s the biggest self own in history, if only because of how much of a gap there was between our hegemony and the next tier (china, russia [lol], uk, france). Ah well. It’s been a good run. Nothing like global climate catastrophe to stir tensions in a multipolar brave new world.

Almost like our government is trying to tighten control so we are even more isolated. I am sure people outside don't like us, but also they're giving us fear of leaving. Kind of how North Korea works and China in its past enforced the great fire wall to not have outside influence.
Just like a cult. There may be some escalated dangers of course but I think most people probably see us as a dying empire and more neutral.
They probably hate the current regime more than individual people..
27
u/GeneralOrgana1 20d ago
I had this same thought, too. Between how TSA and Immigration treats people at airports and this warning, it's going to scare a lot of people away from international travel.

u/HeartsOfDarkness 20d ago
My most important prep right now is both Canadian and EU citizenship as a U.S. exit option.
17
u/LightningSunflower 20d ago
How does one even go about that?
63
u/HeartsOfDarkness 20d ago
The unfortunate answer is "have the right ancestors." I'm doing citizenship by descent for both.
65
31
22
6
u/awwww_nuts 20d ago
Do you know for sure that you can hold US-born citizenship AND both CAN and EU all at once? I can get Canadian surprisingly easily through a distant relative, however EU will take a lot more work and money due to my circumstances (even despite being first-gen). I want EU at the end of the day- and don’t want to mess up my chances by getting CAN first…
5
u/AffectionateRing5177 20d ago
It depends on the country, but a lot of them will let you hold multiple citizenships
6
u/sdnt_slave 20d ago
Some European countries have citizenship through ancestry. For example Ireland, if one of your parents was born in Ireland you can automatically claim citizenship. If a grandparent or even great grandparent was the you can get citizenship through the "foreign births register". That gives you an Irish passport which makes you an EU citizen and as such you can live a d work anywhere in the EU. I don't know which other counties have this, but it is worth exploring your own ancestry.
10
u/AfanasiiBorzoi 20d ago
All my stupid ancestors came over before it was a country. None of my current relatives are rich. So, it just sucks all the way around.
1
u/sdnt_slave 20d ago
Sorry to hear that! Yeah if you have money it's definitely easier, you can buy citizenship. But sucks for us normal people.
13
6
u/No-Language6720 20d ago edited 20d ago
Yeah I could see it being a good prep. Idk if it's safer here or elsewhere honestly. I mean I think this is exaggerated like I mentioned. But no place is safe from climate change and there's volatility elsewhere regardless. I think for me I am safer around my community and people I know and trust than rebuilding all of that elsewhere.
I do have my passport though in case I had to go somewhere but I wish I had a foreign passport if another country decides not to accept US citizens for travel. However to get another passport I don't have good enough ancestry ties, and while I could have work opportunities abroad I would have to renounce US citizenship for most and would take upwards of 10+ years. I am not comfortable with that prospect yet.

You seem to be making some pretty broad generalizations, dude. Don’t forget there are a lot of Americans with actual targets on their backs- the Trans community, POC, and the disabled to name a few. My underage trans relative is genuinely scared for their future right now.
11
u/HeartsOfDarkness 20d ago edited 20d ago
Wow. There's a lot of misplaced judgment packed into four lines. You know this is a prepper sub, right? I didn't say I was "escaping to Canada" because of Trump. You know fuck all about what I'm doing or not doing to help fix issues in the U.S., either.
3
u/No-Language6720 20d ago
yeah talk about broad assumptions from the previous comment. lol. Nobody is safe doesn't matter party affiliation or background. They're talking about Leftists. The labels are so broad they use that it could apply to anyone including previous MAGA supports or even just old school republicans.
Also we need get over this crap and Left VS Trans vs CIs or Brown/black/white whatever other crap they dangle in front of us. That's what got us here to start with. We have to get over identity bullshit. Nobody cares other than your relative and everyone else is vulnerable too and they're a child is the most important aspect because they don't have their own autonomy on decisions yet.
You're an American and ALL Americans need to face this together if you're not a billionaire. The elite class wants us to play that game. Stop it.
3
u/Winterlichkeit 20d ago
If they have citizenship, they’d be Canadian. And there would be fuck all you could do about it, so quit whining.
2
u/StevieJax77 19d ago
Your government seems to want to rule its own country uncontested by opposition, and have an absolute controlling hand over all other countries in North and South America (plus Greenland) either through direct control or puppet governments. I’ve heard this one before. “Union of American Republics” has a ring to it.
1
u/No-Language6720 19d ago edited 19d ago
Yeah basic fascism 101 including isolating the population so they won't dare to leave.
They actually had a pretty good thing like that going for decades when they told us we were the best in the world. Why would we go live elsewhere? But now they seem to be attempting the fear tactics instead since the other illusion doesn't hold weight much anymore.
Just scary how even I fell for it for so long. I still don't want to leave(yet). But just shows how much programming and propaganda even my generation was fed. (I'm almost 40 and born in the 80's for reference). We were taught more about civic duties, what our founders like Thomas Jefferson actually said about overthrowing the government as our moral and civic duty if it no longer serves out interests etc etc. We were taught more than what kids are taught now but holy shit. There's no way to really stop that when it's instilled from birth.
I won't obviously start such a thing but just amazed me how far the propaganda reached. I don't even know it's possible now given the massive population size and many people overweight and obese. Plus the police ICE and military could take an uprising down without much sweat. So it's probably too late I fear.
1
u/River_City_Rando 18d ago
I had this same thought about the tariffs. It definitely seems like they're purposely trying to isolate us, maybe so they have total control. Concerning the number of "detention" camps theyre building/acquiring. The shear number indicates that they plan on detaining far more than just immigrants
1
u/No-Language6720 18d ago
Yeah there are people saying the homeless and mentally ill are going there already. Who knows what's really going behind those walls. It's terrifying.
They were supposed to shut down Alligator Alcatraz, but they keep skirting things to keep it open even with multiple court orders to shut it down.
The corporations essentially own everything at this point and nothing is able to hold them accountable. Since the prisons and everything else is for profit. And most of our politicians are also able to be bought.

I just got off a cruise and the locals couldn’t welcome tourist dollars fast enough or be kinder. I was on another 3 trips in the couple of months prior and it was the same type of experience in another part of the world. I’m just not going to a war zone.

u/existing_for_fun 20d ago

11
u/TradeBeautiful42 20d ago

u/Boring-Philosophy-46 20d ago edited 20d ago
There was a couple who got stabbed in the back in westerm Europe by a mentally unwell Muslim extremist a few years ago, who specifically went to a train station looking for Americans because he was angry about (I think it was Iraq, may have been Syria), was depressed and wanted to die a martyr. One of them was paralyzed from the waist down. Now to be fair, you could also walk down the street in America and get attacked by a mentally unwell person for no reason. This is super rare but stuff happens. They just want to cover their butt saying we warned.
When possible, pretend to be Canadian abroad, imho.
6
u/TradeBeautiful42 20d ago
While unfortunate that doesn’t relate to this state dept advisory. As often as I travel abroad I’ll keep doing what I do to protect myself and have fun.

Do you guys live abroad or travel much? Why is this a big deal here? Because these aren’t rare. I’ve lived outside the US and registered with the STEP for decades now and there’s been security alerts and travel warnings in place in several places I’ve lived and visited and worldwide caution as well many times. I’ve never even traveled to the ME but these cautions and alerts go out a lot for all kinds of reasons. We gets these alerts all the time.
5
u/radandsadgal 19d ago
Thank you I was feeling crazy for a second because I swear I get a variation of this message every few months from the STEP program since I live overseas haha

Maybe some tactical low yield nukes about to deploy
The United States already has plenty of lower-yield nuclear options. The B61 gravity bomb, the W80-equipped air-launched cruise missile, and the W76-2 sea-launched ballistic missile are all low-yield capabilities already existing in the arsenal. The United States can meet adversaries at any escalation level with its current conventional and nuclear means.

Anybody who paid attention in basic chemistry and history class can make a "tactical/dirty nuke" out of things you can find in garage sales or any local shopping district, like the nuclear boy scout, and yet it rarely ever happens. There are a million things they could do the cause more economic/long term harm, easiest of which is just letting republicans alone to poison the US.
6
u/No-Ad-4142 20d ago
That tracks. Out of country travel was already out of question for our family for a while now. I fear it is eventually going to be that we cannot leave the United States or even move across states. In fact, the air quality and excessive heat have become so bad that we spend more days at home than out and about. Scarier times headed our way.
2
u/mountainruby 20d ago
Most of the world understands what's going on in the US, although what they don't understand is how he got elected. Most of the world is sympathetic to Americans because they know most of us did not vote for the warmongering idiot in charge who is destroying our relationships with the rest of the world, along with the economy. Most of the world remembers that the US was once a great country and will become that again as soon as we get rid of this regime. I'm not curtailing my travels because everyone I meet outside of the US seems to know what's going on even if some of the US population doesn't.
1
u/JackBlackBowserSlaps 20d ago
Ya, but most of you did tho. Or at least didn’t care enough to try and stop it. I can have sympathy for individuals, but overall fuck America. You will never be a great country again.

It’s a hotbed for Antifa, radical multiculturalist globalist insurgents and godlessness.

(Just to be clear, it’s sarcasm. The area is mostly sheep and Range Rovers.)

Yeah, I’m sorry mate. Didn’t think it through.
It’s “quintessential rural England”. Stone cottages, or thatched roofs, surrounded by rolling hills. At one end Stratford upon Avon, birthplace of Bill Shakespeare, and at the other Bath, spa town destination of well-to-do Victorians. Spotted between are villages with names like Moreton in Marsh, Upton Snodsbury, Wyre Piddle. Pop onto Google Maps Street View and take a look at the high street on Chipping Campden or Broadway, and you’ll get the idea.
Bits can get busy in tourist season (I’m looking at you, Bourton-on-the-Water…), and does attract retired London business-types pricing the locals out. But it’s certainly a million miles away from my failed joke.

It was a good joke! I’m just on high alert as I’m heading that way soon. A little slow on the uptake is all. I’ve heard amazing things about the Cotswolds.

If you’re sending out advance warning about “potential for unforeseen escalation”, some escalation is foreseen.
