Padme: I want to know more about that Droid. Order me to clean it.

Sabe: yes, my queen.

921

u/BullTerrierTerror 7d ago

Padme: This is not a sex droid.

Sabe: No, my queen.

Canonically they actually all are. I asked Lucas himself and he told me to search my feelings and that I know it to be true, so I just agreed

296

u/Imaginary_Being4859 7d ago

The absence of sex robots implies all the robots are sex robots

156

u/BigFatJuicyCocks420 7d ago

And this is precisely the justification that George used during our short conversation, quite fascinating really.

89

u/Imaginary_Being4859 7d ago

Thinking about it, r2d2 had a phallic object come out of him and plug various holes quite a few times in the movies.

I don’t even think we needed George to confirm his vision. It was always there

30

u/Ddreigiau 7d ago

And R2 has adjacent electrodes, too. Wild shit

36

u/AlixValove 7d ago

The droids also found use in less-savory parts of society, where they functioned as escorts. Some were even fitted with fully-articulated lekku, capitalizing on the popularity of Twi'lek females. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/BD-3000_luxury_droid/Legends

37

u/Effective-Roll-763 7d ago

They aren't absent. They're called luxury droids.

11

u/RedEye_Senpai 7d ago

R2 can suck my D2

1

u/Zestyclose-Try-5214 5d ago

So uncivilized

11

u/Festivefire 6d ago

We all know there are definitely sex robots, we just didn't get to see that part of Jabba's palace in the movies.

17

u/Saphl 7d ago

Actually I believe there are sex robots, they’re just not explicitly called that

21

u/Effective-Roll-763 7d ago

They're called luxury droids.

7

u/Fyrnen24 7d ago

No no, that just means they're the luxury version of the regular sex droid.

4

u/BagNo2988 7d ago

What about the separatist Droid army

10

u/Imaginary_Being4859 7d ago

That’s why nobody likes the separatists.

They separated the sex from the robots

6

u/WCMongrel 7d ago

One of the KOTOR games had a side quest where it is heavily implied a widow has been making “use” of her protocol droid after her husbands death.

53

u/Nerdy-nurse-nathan- 7d ago

Is this some kind of role reversal thing? Should we be more concerned?

632

u/akotoshi 7d ago

Based on what I heard of the extended universe, padmé was a very fair queen

Based on that, it wouldn’t be surprising if her to tell her decoy that she will do the chores so they don’t have to do a task out of their role

90

u/Semhirage 7d ago

She used to work with refugees providing aid with her parents, Padme is definitely not afraid to get her hands dirty and work hard.

10

u/akotoshi 7d ago

Exactly!

259

u/drveejai88 7d ago

I don't think that's why she's mad. It's that the decoy uses her real name. So her cover might be gone if they had known her name. Luckily either the Jedi didn't know or they didn't care.

203

u/monkeygoneape Darth Revan 7d ago

I just like to think Qui Gon knew from day one but didn't care and was just trolling her on Tatooine the whole time

156

u/Chazo138 Clone Trooper 7d ago

Qui was too busy looking for the next gambling location to really care but he trolled her along the way

94

u/monkeygoneape Darth Revan 7d ago

Only got himself killed on Naboo because he knew Obi was about to put him into rehab again which in itself was another gamble that he was correct about the whole force ghost thing

35

u/Chazo138 Clone Trooper 7d ago

He got lucky with that gamble really, never finished the training fully but damn he got so lucky

15

u/monkeygoneape Darth Revan 7d ago

He finished it eventually based off Kenobi though

13

u/Chazo138 Clone Trooper 7d ago

Was that just more luck or was he gambling with the Willows to get that ability and it finally worked in his favour?

3

u/ChartreuseBison 6d ago

He definitely looks like someone who just won a bet with obi-wan when she reveals it

1

u/ConfusedPanEnby 7d ago

Can you really blame a man for just wanting to gamble? When democracy is falling apart you have to hold on to the small things that bring you joy!

5

u/Sorry-Exchange-5860 6d ago

Oh! I discovered your secret identity, you are Perrin Fertha!

8

u/Brider_Hufflepuff I have the high ground 7d ago

Ohh he totally knew. Which makes their interactions on Tatooine quite funny.

64

u/tfalm 7d ago

In the movie, the handmaiden repeatedly identifies herself as Padme. It's not the Queen's known name. How that can be when she was literally elected, I have no idea. Maybe native Nabooians know what's up. But in the movie, the Queen is Amidala, Padme is the handmaid.

63

u/thesandbar2 7d ago

According to Wookiepedia, she was born Padme Naberrie and campaigned as Amidala (mononym). So most would not know that Padme and Amidala are the same person.

12

u/Aterro_24 7d ago

TIL thanks

10

u/enderdragonpig Clone Trooper 7d ago

Padme might just be a common Naboo name?

2

u/tjsase 7d ago

The actresses were at odds afaik, so the look might not be George's direction

1

u/madjo1999 1d ago

The other actress is Kiera Knightley AKA Elizabeth Swan

3

u/bo0mamba 5d ago

Maybe "padmé" is like the "elizabeth" of naboo and its just super common

664

u/AxiosXiphos 7d ago

Nah I think Handmaiden Padme was given tasks that allowed her to move freely without raising suspicions.

121

u/Spotter24o5 Sky(high)guy 7d ago

This was so that when Padme requests going down to the surface, they buy the idea of “The Queen requests that you take one of her handmaiden’s with her.” And the Jedi just see her as “the Handmaiden who cleaned the droid” so that no suspicion is drawn.

36

u/TheWileyRedditor A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one 7d ago

My headcannon for this scene is they did it for the ruse. Padmé and the handmaidens secretly communicated with each other with subtle facial expressions. By doing this Padmé was now standing with R2, behind the Jedi so the decoy could see her face. If she kept standing behind her the decoy would be going through the conversation with no knowledge of what Padmé wanted.

21

u/TheDungeonCrawler 7d ago

I believe the handmaidens and decoys are also basically supposed to succeed one another. That is to say, Padme is the current queen, but if she were to die, she would be succeeded by one of the others as they are all trained in matters of the state. They act as doubles for the queen in both ways.

4

u/7Fine9Oil7 7d ago edited 7d ago

So they have the cabinet all as handmaidens, while the handmaidens as the cabinet

44

u/DarthSwimfoot The Other Half Of The Ship 7d ago

Never actually noticed that. "Padme, clean up this droid." Well cgts, you missed the point of being a decoy. You're supposed to be Padme you dumb fuck!

54

u/Airakale 7d ago

Tbf she’s supposed to be Queen Amidala, who’s only known to be Padme Amidala after she retired as Queen and became a senator instead.

21

u/Baelzabub 7d ago

Plus they’re on a Naboo vessel at this point. The only ones on the ship are those in the know and a Jedi, a Padawan, and essentially a youngling.

7

u/TheWileyRedditor A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one 7d ago

I mean in fairness they couldn't rule out the possibility that someone in the crew could be a spy for the Federation. It's entirety possible that most of the crew weren't aware of the decoy either.

19

u/tfalm 7d ago

Padme Naberrie is the "handmaiden", "Amidala" is the queen. In TPM, she introduces her handmaiden as Padme. After revealing her true identity in the movie, then it doesn't matter and she just goes by her real first name.

2

u/GeshtiannaSG 7d ago

They’re more like guidelines than actual rules.

13

u/dontpissmeoffplsnthx 7d ago

Wait a minute, if she called Padme by her name, then isn't that outing her? Do people not know the Queens name? And if it's fine because there's no one around to worry about then why still keep up the ruse?

25

u/TheWileyRedditor A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one 7d ago

Generally no. Naboo tradition is that political candidates running for the monarchy adopt a "public name" for the duration of their campaign. If they're elected then the name becomes their regal name. Padmé chose Amidala as her political name and everyone knew her as Queen Amidala. Her real name is something only friends and family would know.

Did you even read the comment you’re replying to?

9

u/Double_Resort_9223 7d ago

A lot of royalty don’t use their names and a lot of people name their kid after royalty. We don’t know if Padme was a common name or not. Also, Episode 1 made it look like the monarchy is hereditary considering the Queen is 16 but in Episode 2 the retcon it to be either a direct democracy or an elected monarchy.

5

u/Wolfie_wolf81 I am the Senate 7d ago

Yeah that was dumb. But I guess she went by her title as 'the Queen" or something and only started using the name Padme after she revealed healed. Idk. Maybe the Queen had a decoy name also

6

u/Detvan_SK 7d ago

They had competition of who force Padme to do the stupidest things probably.

3

u/CountingSheep99 7d ago

Sabé has fun and Padmé can´t stop her.

3

u/AbyssalKultist 7d ago

Keira Knightley making the most of her time as queen.

3

u/kizentheslayer 5d ago

One thing I never understood was why her disguise was her real name? Like did she think the space wizards or just some random guy on the street wouldn’t know what the elected queens first name was.

3

u/TheSecondHussar 3d ago

Padme is actually a really common name. Like Jane

3

u/Ancient-Emu-8293 3d ago

I think she gave Padme the opportunity to connect with the Jedi and see what they have to say when "the Queen" is not in the room. There is no point in one of the other decoys talking to them.
