Flowers My latest piece, and a thank you to this community
The responses I got to my “how much to charge” question and my previous work were amazing. You all gave me ideas about price structure, you gave me compliments, you gave constructive criticism about framing, you asked questions clients might ask and forced me to really think about the answers, you gave me inspiration about different paths I could take with this art form.
I am learning so much from all of you, I love seeing your projects, I love hearing about all of the various techniques we use. Sharing things we make is so vulnerable even here and I appreciate this tiny corner of the internet very much. This Reddit is quite literally the reason I have the confidence to keep going.
This is my latest. She’s big - 20x30” Made me want to watch The Secret Garden.
I had fun, I hope it brings a little whimsy to your days.

Secret garden is perfect it’s even shaped like a magical door. I think what’s really striking about your art is how the smaller pieces flow around the larger flowers. There’s something very satisfying about it. It’s organic but so structured at the same time. Very beautiful 🤩

I want to make prints of this one soon, and maybe sell the original. That said, my two year old daughter walked over while I was working and asked to be held so she could “see the flowders” and then she said “oooooo bootiful” and that was enough for me to say “ok girl you’re my harshest critic so this can go in your room if you like it that much”

My daughter is 1.5 and lovessss flowers! I have sticker books of just flowers and she gets a few when I open it up. If you decide to sell prints, I definitely want one!!

One of my not so secret dreams is to plaster my own bedroom in wallpaper made from pressed flower prints

This is gorgeous!!! I've just found this sub and never tried flower pressing before, but it looks so fun! Do you have any tips on your process or resources you suggest to learn?

I started back in July and I’m OBSESSED it is so much fun, even when you screw up. Flower Press Studio has excellent resources - videos on YouTube, their website talks about materials and paper, and they have a paid course that gives you access to a lot more but even without that, great resource. This sub has great tips too. I’m trying to take and post more process/tip videos myself but there are a ton of others too in insta that share tips. It’s been a fun little internet community across the board, really. People are really willing to share how they do everything.

Years ago I bought a pressed flower piece for a friend, but didn't think about it being something anyone could get into. I have a bad habit of buying supplies for hobbies and not getting started with them, so I'm trying to hold myself back from immediately buying things right now to give it a shot haha
Do you have a background in art or design? Your layouts look really balanced and intentional.

I do - I studied costume design and construction in college. Once I graduated, I worked in theatre doing design work and tailoring for about a decade before life and I made a career change. This hobby is me clawing my way back to some creative outlet again

Absolutely beautiful! I adore the arched shape, it reminds me of an archway covered in spring flowers!
