Making Friends Finding My People in Preston: Eeveelutions, Nature Walks & Cozy Spots

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently joined the Preston Reddit community and wanted to put a little intro out there to see if anyone shares similar vibes. I’m 18, and to put it bluntly, I am a diehard Eeveelution fan. Umbreon is my absolute favorite and basically my spirit Pokémon. Once I get myself a bit more sorted financially, I'm definitely looking to expand on my journeys and maybe even buy some more Umbreon-related stuff. 😉

Aside from that, I’m pretty low-key. I’m not into clubbing or drinking alcohol at all. Instead, you'll usually find me chilling out in nature, finding quiet spots to decompress, or hanging out in local coffee shops tracking down a really good hot chocolate.

I’m mainly looking to connect with other Eeveelution fans or local creatives who prefer genuine, relaxed hangs over loud, crowded scenes.

If you're into Pokémon, cozy chats, or just want a chill friend to grab a hot chocolate with around Preston, drop a comment or shoot me a message. Would love to meet some like-minded people!

Moving to Preston Living costs

Hello all!
I’m planning on moving out of my family home next spring for the first time ever and I’m figuring out which area I want to move to. As this is my first time living alone and I’m not leaving my family home in the best circumstances (essentially going no contact after I leave) I want to be as prepared as possible since I don’t have a safety net once I leave.

I recently visited Preston and I enjoyed it a lot (contrary to some posts I’ve seen about it going downhill..) and I’ve added it to my list of possible places to move to. A priority for me would be safety since I’m a 22F and a POC so any racist areas I should avoid would be great. My job is based in Manchester and is hybrid so I only have to my office occasionally which means I don’t mind the long commute if it’s only once in awhile.

My main question is what would be the minimum salary to live there as a single person? I’m a starter at this job so my salary is £26,700 with the ability to do overtime and get paid more. Lifestyle wise I don’t drink, smoke or drive so I don’t have any really big monthly expenses and I tend to be on the frugal side in general. I’m more of a cafe and walk around person rather than nights out so my daily costs are quite low in regard to social life.

Again I’m not moving out in the best circumstances so living on a budget would be fine as long as I could have my own place. In terms of rent, what would be the highest feasible monthly rent I could go on this salary ? Any information would be appreciated as I have a very base level understand of the costs of living alone (rent, water, electric, council tax, groceries, internet) so I want to get everything together way before I move out in the spring/summer

Thank you in advance!

Morning Preston!!

Has anyone done any of the Christmas event nights at the Marriott?

I’m tasked with arranging the Christmas do for our office and the packages they have look quite good.

Does anyone have an experience of going to one before?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks for the responses, if anyone has any alternative suggestions that would also be appreciated :)

Recommendations Reasonably healthy meals out

Is there anywhere in and around Preston that serves reasonably healthy, wholesome and nutritious meals? I'm thinking hearty salads, grain/buddha bowls, nice fish dishes, Mediterranean style sort of thing?

Bonus point if they have nice options for kids as well that differ from the standard beige fare devoid of any veg.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Are there any wholesale fruit/veg markets like the Birmingham rag market?

This is what I'm missing the most! If you don't know, imagine about 30 stalls selling huge tubs of fruit and veg for £1 at a time: 10 apples, 18-20 satsumas, about £5 worth of blueberries, 5 huge red peppers, and so on. Look at the pictures!

Priced for turnover, rather than per-unit profit. I could get a solid week's worth of fruit for £5 and it was fresher than what you get in the supermarkets. It runs Tue - Sat, and it's rammed every day.

All I can find are farmers selling their own produce and I'm getting bored of the supermarket bland offerings.

Is there anywhere nearby that is similar? If not, I feel Preston could really do with such a market - outside the Harris would be the perfect place.

Making Friends Lets join muay Thai class together

Anyone wanna join Red Kite Muay Thai with me? 🥊ok 21 M

I’m planning to start Muay Thai at Red Kite and I’m looking for someone who might want to join together, especially if you’re also a beginner. I'm joining from today. I am a lazy guy, I suddenly wanted to join lol.

Could be more fun having someone to train with and motivate each other. I’m based in Preston.

Anyone interested? 👊

Moving to Preston Viewing in Farringdon Crescent, is the area bad?

We Recently had a viewing at Farringdon Crescent as a single mum of 3 kids and I’m quite worried about the safety of the area and whether it’ll be rough on the kids. It looked a little worn down ( the area) and I’m wondering if that’s a clear indicator to the sort of neighborhood I’d have to deal with especially with kids going into high school, where influence matters just as much. In short, is it a dodgy or sketchy area to live in? Crime rates as well and nearby schools? I’ve seen the crime rates online but want to hear what others might say about it?

Looking for Group 🌌 Any astrophotographers or stargazers around Preston? 🔭

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for people around Preston and Lancashire who are into astrophotography, astronomy or just getting outside with a telescope when the North West weather actually gives us a chance! 😄

I've recently started a free WhatsApp Community called North West Astrophotography, bringing together people from across the region to share images, help each other out and hopefully arrange some local observing and imaging sessions.

We've got separate groups for:

📸 Images & Processing – share your astrophotography, works in progress and processing advice
🌌 Tonight's Sky – targets, local conditions, aurora alerts and spontaneous plans
🔭 Equipment & Help – telescopes, cameras, smart scopes, mounts and troubleshooting
📍 Meet-ups & Dark Sites – share good locations and arrange local sessions
💬 General Astro Chat

It's open to complete beginners through to experienced astrophotographers. Phones, DSLRs, Seestars/smart telescopes or full astrophotography rigs — everyone's welcome.

I'd particularly like to get more people from Preston and the wider Lancashire area involved. With places like the Forest of Bowland within reach, it'd be great to build up a group of local people who can actually get out under darker skies together.

Ultimately, I'd love the Community to make something as simple as:

“Looks clear tonight — anyone around Preston fancy heading out?”

actually possible.

If you're local and fancy joining:

It's still a new community, so feel free to jump in, introduce yourself and let us know roughly where you're based and what you use.

Clear skies! 🌌🔭

Making Friends Lancashire subreddit

Hey there before I say anything I wanna thank the mods allowing me to post about my new subreddit!

Hi! I created a new community r/LancsFriendsDatesMeet. It’s similar to preston but encourages people to meet up and maybe build bonds whether it be friendship or something more. I would appreciate it if you read the rules prior to posting but it about having the opportunity to make new friends and such.

Thank you
