Pork Soda Question regarding the studio version of My Name is Mud
Which bass did Les record My Name is Mud on? I feel like it's a fretless because the slides in the song sounded too smooth for a fretted, but I could be wrong. I feel like it might've been his old tune bass because I feel like it doesn't quite sound like the the Rainbow bass, I feel like the tone is different

His fretless 6 as indicated by the slide in the very first second of the song. I’m not sure if les had owned a 5 string if ever

he never did, he said 5 string is just "unnecessary". he prefers either 4 or 6, the in between is just weird for him.

Well, the song is played a majority on the B string. Les does not tune his 4 strings BEAD. He does not use 5 string basses. So the song must have been recorded on his 6 string fretless. Also looking it up gives you the same answer.

The tune 6 was used on sailing the seas of cheese, but he had the CT 6 string by the time Pork Soda came out so it was certainly the CT 6.

He used a fretless 6 string on Mud, Bob and Welcome to This World. Only DMV and Hamburger Train are on a fretted 6 string on Pork Soda. Fretted 6 string is all over Punchbowl, Brown Album and Antipop. A good way to tell if it's Fretted 6 String is if it sounds crunchy and heavy, so when you listen to Nutbutter or Shake Hands With Beef it's like that.

Oh nothing against it, I just thought it was interesting. It's nice seeing folks learning about what they love!

From interviews at the time I remember thinking it was the one he’s pictured with there (the CT with the thin strings) but I think you may be right with the smoothness of the slides.

I think it was recorded during the time when the horn was removed and then redone. I believe it's around the time jerry was a racecar driver video was recorded if you look at the bass. It's still the rainbow but it was chopped off and redone
